  1. Calling the Cubs a 1 hit wonder is not a bit off, it's ridiculous. It's difficult for any team to repeat as World Series champs. It's not like the Cubs failed to make the playoffs or win their division, or anything like that.
  2. Agree 100%. I'm not even sure I'm fully on board with signing JD (depends on the length of the contract), but I'd much prefer JD for about 1/2 of Stanton's contract and not having to give up players to boot.
  3. #bringbackben
  4. I am pretty much in agreement with this, but to be fair, Dombrowski deserves a chance to see how his 'plan' works out. We may win 2 World Series over the next two years. Dombrowski might miraculously restock the farm before we arrive at the impending cliff. I am not a Dombrowski fan, so in the meantime, I will voice my displeasure with his approach. LOL
  5. Once again, 1000 times no on Stanton. Especially if trading for him is going to create a hole or holes elsewhere.
  6. I don't know the direct quote, but what he said was that he did not know of any player needing surgery. That's not a reason to fire him, but it's certainly not a good look. How can a GM not know that a player needs surgery 2-3 days before the surgery occurs? He is either a clueless idiot in that regard or he's a liar. Neither option paints him in a very good light. If he's trying not to 'tip his hand', which I don't really buy considering the timing of the surgeries, there are plenty of other comments he could have made.
  7. My understanding about Pedroia is that there is no guarantee that the surgery will "solve" his knee problems either. It would behoove Dombrowski to have a legit depth option in place at 2B either way. That said, if anyone can come back from this injury, it's Pedroia. I won't count him out.
  8. I get what you're saying, but I really don't think Henry wanted Dombrowski to cash in the farm. I think Henry gave the order to Dombrowski to get the team back into the playoffs, and I think Henry allowed Dombrowski pretty much free reign to get the job done how he seemed fit. My problem with Dombrowski is that I think he could have gotten the team back into the playoffs without trading away the farm.
  9. Henry needs to stop acting or reacting in panic mode.
  10. FTR, I don't think Dombrowski should be fired for the job he has done so far, and have posted that previously. I just don't think he should have been hired in the first place. He has assembled what should be a contending team for the duration of the window. What happens in the playoffs is out of his control.
  11. Ben should have been given a chance to see his 5 year plan come to fruition. Perhaps Ben was a puppet when it came to the 'splashy' signings, because his hands were tied there. I don't think he was a puppet when it came to building the farm, or when it came to lesser FA signings such at Gomes or Napoli. In other words, Larry gets the blame for all the bad stuff. Ben gets credit for the good.
  12. Theo made his share of mistakes. I'm not sure he was on board with all of those signings, but what is he going to say?
  13. Serves Maddon right. He is the only part about the Cubs winning it all last year that I didn't like. I am pulling for Dave Roberts in the NL this time around.
  14. It's interesting that Cashman built the current Yankees team by taking a page out of Ben's and Theo's book. Now that Cash is out under the reigns of Old George, he can build the franchise the way he wants to. Call Ben and Theo puppets all you want, but they knew how to build a team. Had they been given the autonomy that they should have had, we would have seen true genius at work here, like we saw once Theo went to the Cubs. Yes, I blame Larry for most of those large free agent contracts that didn't work out. Why? Because they clearly go against the way Ben and Theo operate.
  15. Hitters should not be taking the first pitch or swinging at the first pitch, just for the sake of doing so or for the sake of following some team hitting philosophy. The situation and the pitch should dictate a lot of that decision. The bottom line, however, is that the hitters cannot become too predictable.
  16. I am almost 100% sure that Dombrowski will make a splash with a big bat. I will also be fairly shocked if he didn't.
  17. If Price is healthy, then I agree that we only need depth. Dombrowski seems pretty sure that Price is good to go, but I'm not sure I trust that. I am thinking Pom is going to regress next year. If Price is not healthy, I think we need to add a starter that will be close to what Pom gave us this year. No, I don't know who that would be.
  18. A feel good story indeed Carpin. Thanks for posting it. It's sad about his baseball career, but the important thing is that he seems to be getting his life on track.
  19. Agreed on Machado. But who's not to like on this team? Besides your favorite, Price, that is. LOL
  20. At the time that they put him on waivers? Yes, I think there was a chance. I wouldn't put it past them to try to unload that huge contract.
  21. Thank goodness for me. I'm kind of like Raymond. Everyone loves me. I'm very sweet and lovable.
  22. I am guessing that the type of thing that we hear about as 'clubhouse issues' go on in every clubhouse every single year. We just never hear about them, until a team falters or collapses. That doesn't mean that said issues had anything to do with the collapse, but it does make for good headlines. Yes, someone has to be held accountable, though I think the accountability is often misplaced.
