  1. Going forward, I am not worried about our rotation either. I have said many times that our pen needs help. Do you disagree that having our starters pitch better and deeper into games would help our bullpen?
  2. Oh, it's not good either. I'm not saying that our bullpen has been great. My point remains that with better starting pitching, our bullpen would not be as bad as it's been. The starters were supposed to 'carry' the bullpen, not the other way around.
  3. I am honored to have my name mentioned in the same sentence as Alex Speier.
  4. You are choosing to ignore what has already been posted here about the scouts whose eye tests go into UZR.
  5. While the numbers bear that out, I would not put a lot of stock into your opinion of JBJ looking old this year. You are as biased against JBJ as we are biased for him. I mean no offense with that statement.
  6. Same is true with analytics. The flaws do not discount the value very much.
  7. I also don't particularly care where my team's players rank, but when a statement is made that "The Sox have one of the best", it's going to be challenged on a baseball forum.
  8. Bad news for you: oWAR also uses the 'mythical' replacement player, and it uses a similar type of assessment for base running that is used in dWAR. None of this stuff is mythical and none of this stuff is not based in reality. Obviously, you don't have to like it, but despite any flaws that WAR may have, it's pretty darn good.
  9. I would bet the farm that if our starters were performing like they did last year, we would be within 2-3 games of the division, and we would have a lot fewer blown saves, which is still a terrible stat to look at on its own.
  10. Boston Sports Info @bostonsportsinf · 5m Red Sox starting pitching thru 100 games 2019 521.1 IP - 4.79 ERA - 1.32 WHIP 163 BB - 552 K - 80 HR 2018 571.0 IP - 3.70 ERA - 1.21 WHIP 176 BB - 615 K - 71 HR You worry about the bullpen, I'll worry about the starting pitching
  11. I don't think we should sell. I think we should try to make 1 or 2 small tweaks without going over the next tax limit, and play this out with what we have. What we have should be as good as any team out there. They either find their stride, or they don't. But it's too early to give up on the season.
  12. It's funny. After Cashner gave up 4 runs to the Os, I was still sure we would win that game. I had no doubt that we would score against the Os pitching. No such luck. It is good that we're catching the Rays when they're struggling. Hopefully, we can take advantage of that over the next 2 weeks.
  13. Xander's offense has more than made up for his defense. With an fWAR of 4.8, he is the leading SS in baseball. Parenthetically, he has currently doubled Machado's fWAR of 2.4. Xander makes the plays that he should make. He does not have the range of some of the other shortstops.
  14. We disagree on the value of a starter, even a back end starter, over a reliever. I am not saying that having a good bullpen is not important. I'm just saying that the bullpen is not the place to concentrate your resources.
  15. I do not excuse Price's behavior towards Eck. I pretty much agree with everything that you have posted here. My comment about Price mourning the loss of his dog was in reference to Price's performance in his last outing, that perhaps that was the reason that he pitched so poorly, and that his bad outing had nothing to do with the spotlight being back on him in a negative way. I did not mean to imply that mourning his dog gave Price the right to lash out at Eck again, or even gave us a reason to excuse Price for doing so. I have felt from the beginning of this story that Price is in the wrong. That being said, I do keep in mind that there might be more to the story than what we know and that the media tends to escalate these things.
  16. I just need to give another shout out to Bogaerts. Jason Mastrodonato @JMastrodonato · 6h Xander Bogaerts has two doubles tonight on balls hit with exit velocities of 61.9 and 65.3 mph. The dude hustles.
  17. I have to say, I am legitimately surprised that we won that game. I hate feeling that way, but I have my moments. LOL Great job by ERod and the offense. Let's go!
  18. You should know by now that anything can and does happen in a short series. Also, HFA does not mean a whole lot when it comes to the playoffs. Keep up the arrogance. It will be all that much sweeter when we take you down.
  19. I wouldn't say 'slipped', as in showing signs of decline, if that's what you're implying. Also, I would not put too much stock in a 1/2 season's worth of defensive data. That would be like assessing an offensive player on 3 weeks of play.
  20. I don't know that JBJ isn't better or worse than other outfielders, that's why I use the stats. How is it arrogant to defend WAR? I am willing to admit that something else might be right over my own opinion, and that I am probably wrong. What do you think the margin of error for your eyes is? If the stats support your opinion, then you say, I already knew that and don't need stats to tell me what I already knew. If the stats don't support your opinion, then the stat must be flawed or useless. I asked the question before and got crickets. Have you ever changed your opinion on something based on what the analytics told you? No, because you think your opinion can't possibly be wrong. But maybe, just maybe, you are wrong. The eyes will lie.
  21. I would still extend him, but as I said before, not for long term. Two years sounds good.
  22. LOL You are on a mission against Porcello because you've never liked him. He has stunk this year. Giving a pass to the other 3 starters is ridiculous. Bias, as its finest.
