  1. I was not scratching my head on that one. I would have liked the deal to be one year shorter, but I thought it was a good idea to extend Sale before he reached free agency. If Sale has pitched like vintage Sale, his price would have sky rocketed and we would have not been able to re-sign him. We then would have heard criticism over why we didn't lock Sale up in the spring. Very similar to Beckett's extension.
  2. The curious thing is why GMs continue to sign players to insane contracts. And it is getting more and more insane every year. I understand that Mookie is not Chris Sale, but the number of people who really want to sign Mookie to a 10+ year mega contract just blows my mind.
  3. Exactly. As much as we like to think we know more than those actually involved with the team, we don't.
  4. Fair statement.
  5. I don't watch gymnastics regularly, but it is my favorite sport in the summer Olympics. The level of difficulty has increased tremendously over the years. Same with figure skating, which I do watch regularly.
  6. Nice play on the names there Oldtimer. The funny thing is, I really wasn't opposed to Sale's extension. I would have liked it to be a year shorter, but I actually didn't think it was a bad contract for a pitcher of Sale's caliber. But here is even more proof that long term contracts are usually not a good idea. Bloom does not seem like the type to go that route, but who knows what he will do now that he has the payroll to do so. I still don't think he'll be much for signing guys to those mega contracts.
  7. It stinks that he has to have the surgery.* I know many people feel that he should have had it at the end of last season, but avoiding surgery if possible is still the best course of action to take initially.* Surgery should be one of the last resorts. It will be interesting to see when he gets the surgery scheduled.* As much as I'd like for him to have it done immediately so that he can start the road to recovery, this really isn't a priority type surgery.* He might have to wait until the coronavirus pandemic is under control, and rightfully so.
  8. Thanks to SoxHop for being the first to include female athletes in this discussion.
  9. We wouldn't need broadcasters either. We can figure out what's going on.
  10. There is a Covid 19 thread in the General Discussion section. Jacko has been posting there. Thanks for sharing your opinion. I have been reading some things about some drugs that do seem very encouraging, thank goodness.
  11. I don't have Netflix. I don't watch enough tv to warrant me subscribing to it. I do not think that either of those movies is my cup of tea anyway.
  12. That's too bad. It looks like everyone is just going to have to stay the heck home. Unfortunately, not everyone seems to be willing to do so.
  13. You really make no sense sometimes.
  14. Some of us never got into the stuff.
  15. Once again, I did not get the reference and have no idea what movie that is from, which left me wondering why the heck MVP posted that.
  16. Encouraging indeed. What's the current thought on how well the virus will survive in summer temps?
  17. Good deal. Stay safe, my friend.
  18. Those crazy Canadians.
  19. My advice to you is to go stock up on (not hoard) tp and food items that you need now, if you haven't already done so.
  20. Woohoo! Some actual baseball news! Interesting to see how he comes through this.
  21. Well 5GG, it seems that you are talking about taking players who are 'clutch'. Without starting that whole debate again, IMO, you have to go with the better players. I would have to go with ARod over Jeter.
  22. How are things in Canada? Do you have toilet paper?
  23. If we are counting defense, I can't have Miggy on my team.
  24. I don't discount that history is on their side. However, choosing a player because of great postseason play?
