  1. I agree that they should not happen.
  2. LOL I think I love you.
  3. It is correct. And good for you. You are not too far removed from your math classes, so you remember things like sin 90.
  4. I think most umpires do a far better job than we give them credit for. We tend to remember the blown calls, particularly the blatant ones, much better than we remember the overwhelming number of correct calls. I think a problem with umpires is that they do tend to have their own definition of what the strike zone is. Some tend to call higher strikes while others don't. IMO, that is something that could and should be corrected.
  5. A man after my own heart.
  6. I'm a high school math teacher and math geek in VA. If you want to know my age, you'll have to solve this math problem: 9 + 2 * 5^2 - 15 * sin 90 + (ln 1) / 3 Man, I really hope I didn't screw that up. LOL
  7. LOL I know. And not trying to rag on Dewey, as we all make typos, but that really bothers my OCD. It's like the thread that was once titled "post teh funnehz". That one bothered me for several reasons, until YOTN finally changed it to "Funny Things".
  8. It will be coming in the next 3-5 years. What is wrong with batters arguing calls? What is wrong with the good ole days when the managers used to come out and really get into it with the umpires? Human emotion. Technology is removing some of that from the game.
  9. I'm not sure about that. But perhaps.
  10. I agree completely with your statements regarding the K-Zone being a two-edged sword. IMO, umpires who do not meet reasonable standards need to be fired. Or those who think they are bigger than the game. I really think we could find people to do a better job than some of our umpires are doing.
  11. My dentist isn't helping either. But my dentist has cancelled all non emergency appointments. That's probably mostly to prevent the spread of the virus, but that is also a risk that doctors are taking with non-emergency surgeries.
  12. All three are at fault here, IMO. Maybe the medical professional who is still willing to perform this type of procedure knowing the crisis that his colleagues are facing is being the most irresponsible.
  13. Completely agree. I do want to correct one thing from my post. The surgery is being done in a hospital in FL, not in NY. Doesn't change my opinion though.
  14. I have no doubt that cutting up the uniforms was the culmination of several other factors. There are better ways to make statements and stand up for teammates.
  15. Hmmm. And he's having it done in a hospital in New York, of all places. SMH
  16. It's not necessarily the help of the physicians, but rather the hospital equipment and supplies they are using.
  17. I don't disagree. I would be disappointed in any of them too.
  18. This is what happens when really old threads are bumped up. LOL
  19. Welcome back!
  20. Because I think they can be misleading and they make fans think that some umpires are worse than they are.
  21. We have a good bullpen! At very little cost!
  22. Perhaps they need to get rid of the K-zone boxes around the strike zone.
  23. If there are umpires who think they are bigger than the game, they need to be replaced. Or umpires who really are incompetent. I am positive that umpires would improve in their calls if they were held more accountable. That said, I don't expect any umpire to get every call right. I'm okay with that. Will I yell at my tv when an umpire blows a call against against the Sox? Absolutely. But it's part of the game and part of being a fan.
  24. I wouldn't call it incompetence, necessarily, but rather human error. And yes, it's part of the game.
