  1. It's a very bad look. I will be disappointed in Sale and the Red Sox if I hear that he had the surgery during this crisis.
  2. Yes, I think he was scheduled to start, which was a driving force behind why he did it. I like Sale, and I think he's a good character guy, a good teammate, and a good team leader. But, I cannot dismiss his cutting up the uniforms as being okay or justifiable. It was a childish thing to do no matter what other reasons he may have had for cutting them up.
  3. My thoughts exactly. I think Manfred jumped on the Sox prematurely due to Cora's connection to the Astros. Wouldn't it be really sad if Cora lost his job over basically nothing?
  4. Whether it does or not, that's not the point.
  5. Exactly oldtimer. We'd all like for Sale to be able to pitch for us as soon as possible, but baseball takes a back seat to saving human lives.
  6. I'm guessing that Dr. Andrews is well off enough that he can afford to postpone his surgeries, etc. until this crisis blows over. I would assume that he does his surgeries out of hospitals, but I'd also assume that he has some kind of supplies in his private practice office that might be helpful. Gloves? Masks?
  7. I know that most people agree with your opinion. I am just against it, as I am against instant replay of any kind. It bothers me that technology will have such a big impact over the outcome of a live game.
  8. Yes, even with that. The metrics are specific enough these days that the influence of the pitcher, along with the speed/effectiveness of the runner, etc. can all be accounted for. Caught stealing has never been one of the highest defensive priorities of a catcher. But if pitch framing is eliminate, then CS becomes more significant. It won't be the be all end all metric, just more significant than it is now.
  9. Yes, I know they are coming sooner or later. Unfortunately.
  10. Talking about baseball is a way to take my mind off of other things for a while.
  11. That's still a hard NO to robot umps! When we do get robot umps, caught stealing will become a more important defensive metric for catchers, so there is that.
  12. I read it. It didn't say anything that we haven't already heard.
  13. Even if he did, IMO, it would be irresponsible of him to use vital resources for elective surgeries that he could be donating to hospitals that need those supplies for critical care.
  14. I get that Dr. Andrews is likely not involved in the COVID-19 crisis. But just taking up a hospital bed and any machinery/personnel or even surgical masks that could be otherwise used is critical right now.
  15. I don't think Sale will be having the surgery any time soon. IMO, if they allow him to have it because of who he is, that would be wrong.
  16. I bear no ill will towards him, but that said, with what little football I do watch, I'm a Pats fan. So I'll be rooting for whoever the new QB is.
  17. I get that. I am just remembering how Yankees fans would criticize, criticize, criticize a Red Sox player, then as soon as that player signed with another team, he would suddenly become the greatest player ever! It's funny how our perceptions change, mine included.
  18. Brady, Belichick, and the Pats are far from being beloved by those who are not Pats fans. I will be interested to see what kind of praise Brady might get now that he's playing for a different team. Will football fans be able to embrace him as a great QB now?
  19. Thank you for clarifying. I did not realize that Belichick was the one making offers.
  20. Well said. I agree. I've been somewhat following the conversation about service time, and this might have been discussed, but what about contract time? If we miss all of 2020, would that year of the contract be added to the end of the contract? If a player is set to become a free agent at the end of 2020, would he now be contractually committed to the team until the end of 2021? If so, then that could be a win for the Red Sox if Sale is able to come back strong from the TJS.
  21. Obviously, getting Sale back as a 6-7 inning starter would have far more value than having him as a reliever. I agree, we need him to come back as a starter. That said, getting him back as an elite closer would be far better than not having him. Not worth the contract, no, but better than nothing.
  22. If Sale is going to be limited in innings, I'd prefer to make him an opener rather than a closer. He'd face the top of the order each game that he pitches, and he would know exactly when he's going to pitch, eliminating the possibility of having him warm up only to have him sit down without being used. Perhaps he could give us 3 innings as an opener, unless the sitting down between innings is part of the issue.
  23. Is that what really happened? Brady left because of disagreements with Belichick? This had nothing to do with money?
  24. I have never been able to get into baseball video games.
