  1. It's not because they make a lot of money. It's because they have enough money to live a very comfortable life if they never worked another day. That makes their surgery non-essential.
  2. It sounds like a minimum of 4 weeks.
  3. It's quite possible that the team 'forced' Sale to have the surgery now against his will. It's much more likely that Sale was 100% on board with getting it done now. It is my opinion that if Sale really didn't want to have the surgery done now, it wouldn't have been done.
  4. Absolutely. The Red Sox are equally irresponsible.
  5. I'm not sure what you mean by this.
  6. They are using surgical masks and gowns, at the very least. Not just for the surgeon, but for the entire surgical team. Are a few masks and gowns going to make a significant impact on the fight? No. But my understanding is that these items are extremely scarce, with some nurses having to use the same mask while tending to different patients. Every mask helps, no matter how little.
  7. Yeah, that ALCS game was just as bad. Kimbrel ultimately got the job done, but he sure caused a few gray hairs along the way. Don't get me started on the 'Save'.
  8. Yes, Game 4. I was sure the Sox were going to blow that game.
  9. If money is changing the outcome of the decision in favor of the wealthy, then you can't really say the surgery is essential.
  10. I just finished watching Game 5 of the 2018 ALDS against the Yankees. I had forgotten what a heart attack Kimbrel was in that game.
  11. This really screws the Red Sox over if there is no season this year. So much for signing Mookie as a free agent!
  12. It reflects on the athlete as well. Sale could very well refuse to have the surgery until a later date.
  13. It is a terrible look for all involved. More so for the doctors than for the athletes. Shame on them.
  14. They are not essential. No way, no how. They are being performed for personal gain.
  15. Every surgery uses resources that are needed in the coronavirus fight. Every surgery. FTR, Dr. Andrews has suspended performing TJS during the pandemic. Good on him. The doctors who are still performing the surgeries are not doing anything illegal. There is a lot left open to interpretation of what is 'essential', so doctors are able to justify the surgeries from a legal standpoint. Doing what is ethically right is a whole other story. IMO, these people are behaving selfishly and irresponsibly, and are really on the wrong side of whether performing the surgery is ethical or not.
  16. As I stated in another post, I could see the surgery as being more than elective if I had to have it done as a teacher, or in the case of this 23 year old kid. I could understand the surgery if someone is not going to be able to provide food for his/her family if the surgery were not done. Sale and Syndegaard are not in danger of going hungry if they don't have the surgery.
  17. I am extremely disappointed in Sale, the Red Sox, including my man Bloom, and Dr. ElAttrace for performing this surgery.
  18. I'm glad to hear that you and your partner have recovered. Scary stuff.
  19. Sorry to hear this Oldtimer. Best wishes for this young man and your family. Stay safe.
  20. Oh, I didn't think about the consolation bracket. +2 for you, -1 for me.
  21. FWIW, you accountants and engineers are some of my favorite people.
  22. Fair point. So, I would not get the surgery.
  23. But have they? Will they if it's not a requirement of having the surgery (and I don't think that is legally possible)?
