  1. I think I would rather have seen Leon paired with Kelly last night. Kelly has great stuff but think he needs a veteran catcher to help him harness it.
  2. So essentially giving up on the season....? At least bringing in Hamels, you know you're going to improve your rotation.
  3. I haven't been a huge Hamels fan either, but I think he is better than anything currently in our rotation.
  4. I'm willing to let this rotation go for a few more weeks, see if it improves with the weather. But I am concerned that the market for Hamels may now heat up, whereas I think prior to Wainright and Tanaka getting hurt (albeit unsure as to prognosis for the latter), the Cards and Yankees may not be interested in him. I don't know that the Yankees have the prospects that Philly would want, and am unfamiliar with the cards as well in that regard. But - if it's possible - Hamels price may have gone up, if, indeed, the Sox have any interest in him.
  5. I think Tanaka is f*cked. Anytime they start talking about 'forearm' issues, seems like a call to Dr Andews isn't far behind.
  6. Ok, so now Tanaka is out for a month for the Yankees - and maybe a precursor to TJ surgery - so do the Yankees now have an interest in Hamels? Between the Cards, the Yankees and the Sox, his market might start to heat up a bit. That is, assuming the Sox recognize they may have a problem with the rotation....
  7. Well if we want to do something re: Hamels, better do it soon. St Louis may be looking for a pitcher now with Wainright out. And as far as Papelbon is concerned, I'd rather they focus on the starting rotation than a closer. And everything I've read indicates that he's really a s*** in the clubhouse these days, not sure if that's part of his plan to get traded or not but still....
  8. I think that's the key for both of these guys - they are great off the bench.
  9. Good win last night. And I love this - http://bleacherreport.com/tb/dgtnL?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=newsletter&utm_campaign=boston-red-sox
  10. I like Farrell but I miss Tito.
  11. Good win last night. I'm really digging the way this team plays, never giving up or giving in. Hard-nosed baseball. And because of the off-season signings, Bogy can be 'just another guy' out there and not the focus of everything, like he and JBJr were last year. I think that is helping him.
  12. I think Maddon's shtick is to try and make the game fun again - Mariachi bands and penguins in the clubhouse, 'theme' travel days, etc. I kinda like it. I know few of us feel sorry for the ballplayers (especially those of us that never made it only because we couldn't hit a curveball ;-) but it is a grind and I think any way you can lighten it up, especially with a younger team, is probably a good thing.
  13. You're correct, as I've experienced it myself!
  14. I would keep JBJ around with Victorino gone after this year.
  15. I think Vic is gone after this year, right? 3-year deal he signed in 2013, I believe. So an outfield of Hanley - Mookie - JBJ would not be too bad (assuming JBJ hits enough) for a few years....
  16. Glad to hear it worked out well for you. It might have been a little different if they were playing the Yankees and you were wearing Yankees gear.... ;-)
  17. So how was your visit?
  18. I was in DC over the weekend and the prevailing feeling is that the Nats have spent too much time over the winter and in the spring reading about how dominant they are going to be. So I'm enjoying their comeuppance as well. Although I do still think they will be the NL rep in the World Series.
  19. Unfortunately, it really isn't....!
  20. He's not a gamer. Unless he has his A+ stuff, he sucks and doesn't 'battle through' a rough stretch. And the above about not backing up home is just an example of not doing everything he can to win, even without his A+ stuff. An ace does that.
  21. Pretty happy with most aspects of the Sox start. Obviously, disappointed in Buchholz start against the Yankees, and hope that the first start was not just because the Phillies really suck. I wish he could learn how to battle a bit, and bear down when facing adversity. Instead, he just caves. But the offense has been good, and not everyone has heated up yet. Just keep taking series wins.
  22. Maybe not, but it's only a 4-year deal so the Sox have to overpay. I'd rather they do that than pay him 15 million per year for 7 years or so.
  23. My wife is a Patriots fan (well, bandwagoner ;-) and I am a Jets fan. We agree on all other sports (Sox, Celtics, Bruins). While the 2000's were tough, I'm hoping for a change in the pendulum shortly...
  24. So the same as Washington, DC, then.....
  25. Definitely wander around outside the park, you might spot Luis Tiant walking around outside. Just look down, he's a lot shorter than you think.... ;-)
