  1. Way to take a few pitches, Hanley.
  2. Well, Hunter and Mauer have 2 of the Twins 3 hits - so I say bring in Koji.
  3. Without knowing who is coming up for the Twins, I say bring in Koji.
  4. Wow, usually you see a guy making a great defensive play, come up to the plate right afterwards.... Not the opposite....
  5. WTF is Leon trying to do going 1st to 3rd in that situation?
  6. Man, I turn on the audio and freakin' Mike Pelfrey is shutting us out???
  7. And as I noted in another thread, the league will adjust to him now that they have some tape, so he will need to adjust back - often the sticking point for young pitchers. But I certainly liked what I saw a lot, although I don't think his fastball is consistently mid-90's - I think he can touch mid-90's but think he relies more on location with it than pure power.
  8. Yes, and there will certainly be tape on him now as well, for hitters to study. The ability to make adjustments going forward is really critical and I think where a lot of young pitchers fail. Going back to the subject of this thread, I don't think Kelly has gotten that yet. He seems to be focused on throwing what he wants, not what might get the hitter out.
  9. But the only way to 'pace' him is to sit him, which doesn't make much sense. He either has to pitch in AAA or MLB, so why not use him in MLB as long as we can.
  10. Between the minors and last night, he has about 55 already, so figuring 7 innings per start, he has about 14 starts to get him to 150-ish innings. So if he stays up, he'd be done by mid-August if they stay with 5 starters. I'd rather have all of those at the MLB level, since I assume they'd shut him down regardless of whether he pitched 150 in MiLB or MLB....
  11. I don't know how they send him down now. He is currently their best pitcher. I do think they will keep running Kelly out there. Sounds like they are going to go with 6 pitchers for a bit, which will manage ALL of their innings....
  12. Well, after the way Rodriguez pitched last night, someone is going to have to be bounced from the rotation to give him more starts. Pretty impressive against a tough line-up that's been playing well lately. Doesn't seem like he has electric stuff but boy, was he locating last night.... And I'm sure Swihart having some familiarity didn't hurt either.
  13. Napoli seemed like he was heating up, but the offense will only be as good as Big Papi. Nice to see Pedroia getting the power stroke going, but it's all really on Papi. Let's face it, they aren't going to fire either Cherington or Farrell during the season, probably not after it either. I think the issue is not so much how the team was constructed but underperformance - at least from the position players. If the offensive players were at their career numbers, the pitching - especially recently - should be enough to be competitive. Especially in this crappy division. Assuming they are still in contact with the top of the division in late June, and Hammels is still on the Phillies, I can see Ben making a move.
  14. The good news is, they are facing Phil Hughes.
  15. 2 more good starts from Kelly and Buchy, so at least one side of the ledger seems to be performing well now. I just hope the offense can catch up...
  16. I found this interesting. Implies that the offense should turn around shortly. http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2015/05/21/there-silver-lining-red-sox-offensive-woes/EGRN8ZkEVXyPT5l3HFpjUJ/story.html
  17. I'm glad they showed some patience with him, and glad he worked on the things he needed to. Now if they could only get JBJr to do the same.
  18. Good points, Pal, and perhaps some of us read into the pundits a little too much. To have played as crappy as we have to this point, especially recently, and be 2.5 out, really says a lot about the state of the AL Least.
  19. If it comes to it, scapegoat-wise, it will be interesting to see who ownership prefers - Farrell or Cherington. Although I certainly hope it doesn't come to that.
  20. Nava needs to go for sure. I think Napoli can use a little more time - right-handed power is hard to come by, and he certainly has that when he is on. He is very streaky. I also would like to see them keep Craig in AAA and see if he can hit again. We need to find the Carl Willis of hitting coaches to fix the offense.... But I do think the hitters will hit.
  21. Kelly really has great stuff. But he needs to learn how to pitch. It would be great to see him paired with a veteran catcher like David Ross, or to spend some time with Curt Schilling or Pedro.
  22. I keep opening this thread thinking that there might be some actual discussion of the rotation. I have to stop that. ;-)
