  1. OP speaks the truth. I really am shocked at Devers year so far, never expected it.
  2. Great timing on the Joe Kelly tribute thread huh, right before he gets rocked. LOL. As for Harper he is very very good, but the face of baseball? Not even. The headline in today's paper is "Is Harper's defense costing the Nats?" So there's that. If I'm putting up a huge offer, and those contracts seldom work out, I'm paying the guy up 95 30 miles and playing SS for the Birds.
  3. I think the prediction of Peddys demise are a bit premature.
  4. Surprised to read the love for Bryce Harper here though realizing some of it is tongue in cheek. I live near DC, the opinion on this guy here is so over the top. Guy on the radio called him "the face of baseball". LOL, guy has had only 2 great seasons and has hit 30+ HRs exactly once. As for Kelly it really is amazing the turnaround. I remember the comments after the opener, and I agreed with them. Since they he has been amazing and I'm no longer worried about our set up man.
  5. Another solid outing from Porcello last night, very close to getting out of it with only 1 run in 7. Sale has not been his dominant self but I'm hardly worried, E Rod has shown really good signs. Guy I can't get a handle on is David Price. Just not sure what he will give you but as mentioned for a #3 he's fine. Stephen Wright is the wild card. He has been tremendous in long relief and was an all star last year. Perhaps he takes Pom's spot? Not sure how many more chances he's going to get.
  6. He also hit one right on the screws that was right at the outfielder.
  7. As I saw that I thought about his request for a trade. He has no trade value and apparently still believes he is a good young player.
  8. What a play by JBJ. To say he does this once a week does not mesh with reality but damned that was tremendous. Now that his bat is heating up maybe just maybe he has turned a corner?
  9. Yeah that was very encouraging. Who knows, maybe he can figure it out. I didn't notice, were his hits on fastballs?
  10. Mookie Betts is hitting the ball like a slow pitch softball player. I don't think I've seen another player other than Barry Bonds in his steroid prime where I expect an extra base hit every time he is up.
  11. All these numbers show is that WAR can be a very deceiving stat. Arguing that JBJ was responsible in any way for these figures is kind of a weird argument but you seem to like to make it. Over and over. But I sure was happy to see him putting the bat on the ball recently. I feel so badly for that guy, he deserves good things to start happening for him.
  12. Yeah I'm going with this option. Blake has never shown to be productive at the ML level, there are thousands of guys who looked like great prospects until they see major league change ups.
  13. What a strange season. We have a few players playing out of this world and carrying the team offensively and we have half the lineup either in a slump or having disappointing, in some cases disastrous, seasons. They need more balance, they need the last 4 spots to play up to expectations or this will start to fall apart because obviously Mookie and JD can't keep this pace up forever.
  14. Again that stat 2 posts up just shows how deceiving the WAR stat is. This is not basketball where a defender can make a difference every trip down the court. JBJ simply does not have the opportunity to show his defense by making difficult plays nearly as often, I will never believe he takes a hit away a week that other CF don't take away. Again that's a function of opportunities and respect for the other ML center fielders who can all make great plays, not a knock on JBJ.
  15. Go see the JBJ stat in that thread, only confirms the OP
  16. I feel so badly for him, can't imagine what it's like to be going through this. It really is amazing, teams are just grooving 90 MPH fastballs and he is unable to hit them for whatever reason.
  17. How many games will JBJ cost us with his bat? I am thinking it may be a few already.
  18. But I'm not freaking out at a BA in May. We are discussing a 6th year player with a career BA of .234. Inside those numbers as we all know are hot streaks sandwiched around incredibly long stretches where he killed rallies and severly crippled the team by contributing virtually nothing offensively. I realized he sat several games but can someone point out the defensive play he made in his last 7 games that no other ML CF will ever make?
  19. Despite giving up 2 runs I was very encouraged by Steven Wright's outing last night. Are they considering giving Pom's starts to him or is he penciled in for long relief, in other word whenever Drew Pomerance starts?
  20. How many teams have 2 regulars in their lineup hitting below the Mendoza Line? You don't have to be a threat to be an upgrade over a guy hitting .164
  21. As I have said I don't feel JBJ's defense takes away enough hits to justify his automatic out in the lineup. He may get hot but how long will that take? I think a lineup with JD in left and Bennitendi in center with a different bat in the 8 spot will work out better.
  22. Great to see Mr Tingles (did I do that right?) have a great outing. His velocity was up and that sets up everything for him. So pissed Machado took him deep, he was so close. As for the 2 black holes I am kind of surprised people are defending that. Sure teams can and have won that way but why on Earth would you try? Mooreland is hitting way over his head and will fall back at some point, it's very possible that the guys at the top who have carried this team can fall back as well. Is anyone convinced the New Hanley will continue for 4+ months? And even if none of the above happens it's crazy for any team, even one in first place, to have 2 automatic outs in the lineup. I was happy JBJ scored that run by outrunning a good throw, hoped that would give him a jump start. But 2 pop outs later it was business as usual.
  23. I think all of this is pretty clear at this point, he really doesn't have anything to offer the Sox or any other big league team. He had his chances, he didn't earn more playing time.
