  1. This is the strangest season I can ever recall. As a lifelong Red Sox fan I'm just not used to a lineup where the heart of the order is littered with guys hitting .250-.270 with little power. Outside of Sale our starters are inconsistent, the bullpen issues are well documented and they have had injuries to key players. Yet here they are in the August with a 3 game lead. The infusion of Devers and Nunez has clearly been a huge reason as they have replaced two almost automatic outs with two huge bats. Obviously both will cool off but getting Pedroia (my favorite player) back will be great.
  2. Yeah I didn't understand the challenge, we all knew it was a HR. But this is a topic I find interesting because I could have sworn it used to be a HR and I used to think about it a lot because you rarely see that play. Did they change the rule? Was it ever a HR?
  3. Yeah I gotta go with what you said.
  4. See I don't have a problem with that article. It was simply a reaction to Price's behavior, at the risk of sounding like a child Price started it. I'm not sure why it took a month to surface but that doesn't change the fact that it happened, Price was wrong, and since management won't do anything about it the writer is simply suggesting Price be informed by the fans what they think of his out of line behavior. Guy has always been kind of a dick going back to his Tornoto days. I'm not giving him a pass for this issue simply because he now wears red sox.
  5. It was kind of crazy to me that anyone would actually believe that they would sit David Price due to fan reaction.
  6. f*** David Price There, I said it. Never lived up to his contract, he could never be counted on for consistent production and now the Eck thing which was embarrassing and ridiculous. And yes I DO think that incident was important.
  7. Living in MD I don't get to see every game like most of you do But for some reason I have been getting the MLB Network for free recently. So I was thrilled to see Devers first hit/home run last night. Next at bat he hits a rope that stayed up and was caught, then another well hit ball up the middle for a base hit. How exciting was that?
  8. Yeah I don't get the comment that DD is not trying to win this year. If that were the case they would have never made this move. I like the idea, I mean what choice do they have? As mentioned they can't possibly get less production out of the 3rd base position. I highly doubt it will do irreversible damage should he fail just as I don't believe it caused damage to Yoan when he came up and struggled. And it just might work out. They are in first place despite the worst production at the bottom of the lineup I can ever recall, this is clearly a gamble worth taking.
  9. Price has not met expectations since he signed with the Sox. He has been way too inconsistent to ever be counted on to be The Man and that was the plan when he was signed, And that is before we get to his post season history. Now we have this move along with the well know reports of a sour attitude. What a clown, Eck was simply doing his job and the comments were on point. I'm not ready to say get him out but he sure is on my S List.
  10. Yeah so much for the great Doug Fister Experiment. The Sox starting pitching is a big reason they are in first place, obviously. But going into the season I saw a rotation consisting of the best pitcher in the league, the former best pitcher in the league, the reigning Cy Young Award winner, a knuckleballer who was in last year's All Star Game and 5th and 6th starters in Pomeranz and ERod, either would have been the ace of the Orioles staff LOL. They have been good but they could have been off the charts.
  11. For what it's worth I was cool with the Crawford signing too. One of the good things about rooting for a team with a big budget is knowing after his 4-5 performance against the Sox that he could be ours the next season. You always overpay in free agency and without a salary cap I thought why not?
  12. I was disappointed Farrell pulled Kelly after giving up a hit on a 102 MPH fastball (what an at bat) and a little dribbler. He had no way to know that Kimbrell would struggle and need so many pitches, and he should have gone to him in the 9th, but now he is spent for today's game.
  13. I remember the math from Major League, 2 scratch hits a week turns .250 into .300. I'm too lazy to do the math but would 2 hits not turn .200 into .250?. But I said he may take away 1-2 more hits than the Orioles center fielder. Maybe. And many weeks it's 1 or none. And of course his erratic arm may give back one of these plays every few weeks. But as I said I understand mine is not a popular opinion and I can certainly see your side of the debate.
  14. Mine is not a popular opinion but I've never been a fan of good defense/little offense players. Major league center fielders are damned good. How many plays a week does JBJ make that other starting CFs don't make? Maybe 1-2? That hardly makes up for his .200 average. I mean it's not like he is the only outfielder jumping up to take away game winning home runs and his arm can be erratic
  15. Kind of surprised to hear above the love for Clay Buchholz on the Phils radio and in some of the posts here. I am reading phrases like "ace stuff" and referencing a no-no from 10 years ago when the fact is this guy simply could not be counted on and it's been that way for a very long time. He was either missing starts due to injury or getting hammered far more often than he demonstrated "ace stuff". Who cares what we got in return, dumping $13.5M was a great move.
  16. Clearly that would not have been enough. You don't get a top flight 27 year old #1 starter under contract for 3 years for the players you are suggesting. The pattern of trading away so many of our top prospects is disturbing but as said you have to give up to receive and getting a guy like Sale is a rare opportunity.
  17. This is exactly how I saw it as well. Great move for them, bad for us.
  18. They're getting nothing out of the third base bat and we all know his October history. Pretty unlikely he can get in playoffs shape, wait let me rephrase that. It's pretty unlikely he can get his timing down but maybe not such a crazy idea.
  19. I like this post, well said.
  20. You only really have one boyhood hero and he was mine. That stays with you forever, Happy Birthday Yaz.
  21. Loved that catch and it obviously came at a huge time. But good God ESPN is treating it like Willie Mays robbing Vick Wertz. I'm more excited at the way he is hitting major league pitching.
  22. Not that our vote counts but I'm glad to see most everyone is against a deal for Sale given the players/prospects it would take. When I see the names discussed on TV I shudder.

  24. So true but it's not like it wasn't obvious. If you look at it objectively this entire pitching staff has performed light years better than last year. So it's probably not a championship staff but I'm honestly wondering how realistic that leap was. I read where ERod has been tipping his pitches. If he can correct that and make the adjustment to stop favoring the knee I really believe he will shore up the back end of the rotation.
