  1. 58 runs by pitch framing alone? Man that's amazing, hard to believe actually.
  2. Is it wishful thinking that they can get production out of Tyler Thornburg?
  3. Oh I totally understand how good he is defensively. But not having a suitable replacement does not mean he is above criticism. When you put his total game up against every other starting CF in baseball he is way down the list. I'm just getting so tired of watching a game where they are losing and up comes the bottom of the order. I just wait for the next inning and hope for better results because the last few batters are absolutely killing this team.
  4. I was thinking about the Bradley discussion last night as I saw him take a double away in the gap to left center. That was a very very good play but again major league center fielders are all tremendous, most of them make that play too. I just don't see any way JBJ makes more than one play a week, if that, that other ML CFs are not making. And there is no way he is making up for all his bad at bats at that rate. As for his position in the lineup not hurting the team as badly let's not forget that he is hitting 2 spots ahead of our most productive hitter. So yeah more hits would have meant even more RBI opportunities for Mookie.
  5. I've seen enough of the other options to understand the Red Sox will take a big step backwards without Kimbrel. Sure he only throws 70 innings a year but every one of them is critical, that can't be said of a starter. He saved a whole lot of 1 run games already, we would not have won all of them with Kelly or whomever out there.
  6. If they let Kimbrel walk, and seeing signing a FA closer is risky and they really do not appear to have a successor, then what is the play moving forward for the closer role?
  7. An extra hit a week would make him 22 for 87 or .252. And as I said I don't see him making a play a week that the other ML center fielders aren't making.
  8. For the first time ever I have been able to watch every Sox game. ML center fielders are great, most every team has a good one. I see Jackie Bradley make maybe a play a week that average CFs don't make. And that may be generous. Seems to me his at bats take that one play away quickly, then they are left with a CF who offers very little offensive production that just doesn't seem to be made up with his defense.
  9. I think if you look throughout history, or at least over the last several decades, you will find those are the exceptions. Seems to me most teams playing in late October have that shut down guy, they sure look to be valuable.
  10. The other side of the argument is how many World Series teams have you seen that did not have an established, top level closer?
  11. I tell you what the Sox did a good job of hitting that little triangle just to the left of dead center that was the deepest part of the park a couple of times. Home runs just about everywhere else.
  12. I was excited to get my first look at Bobby Poyner. Gotta say 89-90 MPH heater with little movement didn't impress, I felt that was before he gave up the bomb.
  13. Good Lord....
  14. Carson Smith huh? So what's the feeling. Will he be ready for full time set up duty in October?
  15. While we all share your frustration as I've been saying all year this team has .260 hitters with little power in the heart of their lineup, a lineup scattered with .240-260 hitters, very serious injuries to their starting pitching which resulted in very uneven performances and a problem with setup men in the pen. If you ask me a team that has been in first place most of the year with all these problems has if anything overachieved. But right now they are painful to watch. I got to see the Baltimore disaster as it was on locally. Oriole fan friends of mine were giving me crap. That's right, fans of the worst starting pitching in history were talking big. Yeah that was great.
  16. Good morning. Just stopped by to see if anyone can help me understand whey we have a .232 hitter batting leadoff. Thanks
  17. Somebody mention me?
  18. Yeah I remember all that. Living in Maryland or course they had a different slant on the retaliation. So what is the prognosis? He's as tough as they come, for him to go on the DL twice tells me it's more serious than just needing rest.
  19. So what is the feeling on Pedroia's knee? Is this irritation post surgery or more serious?
  20. Every team has injuries. But can you just imagine our chances had our pitching staff just sustained a normal amount of injuries? I mean the names on your list, which does not even include David Price, are guys counted on to fill big roles on this team.
  21. Well you have now given me something to think about as I wait for the game to start. Up until now my plan was to stare at this shiny object.
  22. I think he means if Price is done his replacement is Fister. I'm not counting on either to produce in October, why should we? Others will have to pick up the slack.
  23. It's posts like this that make me visit this board. I'll admit it, as big of a sports fan as I am baseball is down my list a few spots. I can name every Redskins first round pick over the past 30 years. I know every Maryland basketball player who has ever played. But being from out of town and unable to watch most games I am a bit out of touch with the Sox and baseball in general when compared to my knowledge of the other sports. So I come here and appreciate the knowledge you folks have.
  24. This is the strangest season I can ever recall. As a lifelong Red Sox fan I'm just not used to a lineup where the heart of the order is littered with guys hitting .250-.270 with little power. Outside of Sale our starters are inconsistent, the bullpen issues are well documented and they have had injuries to key players. Yet here they are in the August with a 3 game lead. The infusion of Devers and Nunez has clearly been a huge reason as they have replaced two almost automatic outs with two huge bats. Obviously both will cool off but getting Pedroia (my favorite player) back will be great.
