  1. As I saw that I thought about his request for a trade. He has no trade value and apparently still believes he is a good young player.
  2. What a play by JBJ. To say he does this once a week does not mesh with reality but damned that was tremendous. Now that his bat is heating up maybe just maybe he has turned a corner?
  3. Yeah that was very encouraging. Who knows, maybe he can figure it out. I didn't notice, were his hits on fastballs?
  4. Mookie Betts is hitting the ball like a slow pitch softball player. I don't think I've seen another player other than Barry Bonds in his steroid prime where I expect an extra base hit every time he is up.
  5. All these numbers show is that WAR can be a very deceiving stat. Arguing that JBJ was responsible in any way for these figures is kind of a weird argument but you seem to like to make it. Over and over. But I sure was happy to see him putting the bat on the ball recently. I feel so badly for that guy, he deserves good things to start happening for him.
  6. Yeah I'm going with this option. Blake has never shown to be productive at the ML level, there are thousands of guys who looked like great prospects until they see major league change ups.
  7. What a strange season. We have a few players playing out of this world and carrying the team offensively and we have half the lineup either in a slump or having disappointing, in some cases disastrous, seasons. They need more balance, they need the last 4 spots to play up to expectations or this will start to fall apart because obviously Mookie and JD can't keep this pace up forever.
  8. Again that stat 2 posts up just shows how deceiving the WAR stat is. This is not basketball where a defender can make a difference every trip down the court. JBJ simply does not have the opportunity to show his defense by making difficult plays nearly as often, I will never believe he takes a hit away a week that other CF don't take away. Again that's a function of opportunities and respect for the other ML center fielders who can all make great plays, not a knock on JBJ.
  9. Go see the JBJ stat in that thread, only confirms the OP
  10. I feel so badly for him, can't imagine what it's like to be going through this. It really is amazing, teams are just grooving 90 MPH fastballs and he is unable to hit them for whatever reason.
  11. How many games will JBJ cost us with his bat? I am thinking it may be a few already.
  12. But I'm not freaking out at a BA in May. We are discussing a 6th year player with a career BA of .234. Inside those numbers as we all know are hot streaks sandwiched around incredibly long stretches where he killed rallies and severly crippled the team by contributing virtually nothing offensively. I realized he sat several games but can someone point out the defensive play he made in his last 7 games that no other ML CF will ever make?
  13. Despite giving up 2 runs I was very encouraged by Steven Wright's outing last night. Are they considering giving Pom's starts to him or is he penciled in for long relief, in other word whenever Drew Pomerance starts?
  14. How many teams have 2 regulars in their lineup hitting below the Mendoza Line? You don't have to be a threat to be an upgrade over a guy hitting .164
  15. As I have said I don't feel JBJ's defense takes away enough hits to justify his automatic out in the lineup. He may get hot but how long will that take? I think a lineup with JD in left and Bennitendi in center with a different bat in the 8 spot will work out better.
  16. Great to see Mr Tingles (did I do that right?) have a great outing. His velocity was up and that sets up everything for him. So pissed Machado took him deep, he was so close. As for the 2 black holes I am kind of surprised people are defending that. Sure teams can and have won that way but why on Earth would you try? Mooreland is hitting way over his head and will fall back at some point, it's very possible that the guys at the top who have carried this team can fall back as well. Is anyone convinced the New Hanley will continue for 4+ months? And even if none of the above happens it's crazy for any team, even one in first place, to have 2 automatic outs in the lineup. I was happy JBJ scored that run by outrunning a good throw, hoped that would give him a jump start. But 2 pop outs later it was business as usual.
  17. I think all of this is pretty clear at this point, he really doesn't have anything to offer the Sox or any other big league team. He had his chances, he didn't earn more playing time.
  18. Now we lose a reliever who has pitched much better lately because he got hurt throwing his glove? WTF?
  19. Very well said. I have been challenging the idea that Jackie takes away a hit a week than other CF don't take away all along. My position was more out of the respect for the other ML CFs than it was a slam at JBJ. We see him make a great play without realizing the guy in the other dugout could have made that play too. You are right, he is what he is. And he has always been an inconsistent hitter. But you just can't keep trotting an automatic out up there, even with a first place team.
  20. As I said I haven't seen a play a week that the other CFs don't make, and yes to Belhorn pointed out it's a matter of opportunity. Still it doesn't change the math, with less than 1 play a week (IMO) even if he hit low .200 that's not enough defense to make up for his lack of offense. And sure he may take away a double, but of course if he hit even half way decent he'd have his own doubles to offset that.
  21. Having watched every Sox game for the first time in my life it just reinforced what I have always believed. JBJ simply does not make a play a week that other center fielders aren't making. Sorry I just haven't seen that. Even if he did it won't make up for .167, doubtful his defense makes up for hitting .230 IMO.
