  1. I will not be surprised if Bogaerts works his way into the top half of the order by mid-season. The kid is a natural.
  2. Jacko ... you usually write intelligent stuff but this comment against JBJ is complete nonsense.
  3. True that ... players also mature in the off season when they have a chance to reflect and work on certain things that need working on. They all have the physical tools but not all have the mental prowess.
  4. Leaving JBJ off the post season roster was one management decision and does not reflect poorly on JBJ. I think if they had to do it over they would have included him. I never said that Workman is not good and I have him ahead of Dempster at # 6 not 7. We do not need Drew and his contract. I have faith that WMB can do the job. If he does not work out for us we have Cecchini come up the ranks. The season will not depend on WMB. Trading WMB away at this juncture would be a big mistake imo. Better to buy low and sell high.
  5. I agree with you ... that statement points to Cherington going for Kemp.
  6. Gardner would help Boston ... give us a true lead-off man vs. Victorino. Gardner is a starter however which probably put JBJ at Pawtucket which I am not against. I would rather however have Peavy and go after Kemp in 2014.
  7. What hasn't Brogaerts proven to you? I saw a talented young ballplayer excite and excel on the biggest stage against the best pitching. WMB ... is perhaps the best pure athlete in the organization. Once he figures out how to work major league pitching he will a very a productive hitter. He is already a versatile fielder. JBJ will be the big surprise next year .... 15HR's, .360 OBP and very solid defense. If we can acquire Kemp however for a reasonable cost I say go for it ... nothing wrong with adding a player with proven 30+ HR power along with a good OBP. In fact this would give us 4 players with such power in 2014 along with 2 players with 20 HR potential we will have a very potent offense.
  8. I think that you are forgetting that we had a very low WAR from 3B last season that is projected to increase greatly this season. I think it will be a long shot to land Drew based on the number of years Drew will want and the number that Boston is willing to give with Cecchini replacing Bogaerts as our top non-pitching prospect.
  9. We do seem to have our starting line-up in place now. Do we now continue to acquire other full time players to use as subs or for upgrade purposes. It gets a little expensive when you are paying 11 full time players (assuming 2 are catchers). On the other side of the equation we will be paying 3 of these players league minimum. (JBJ, WMB, Bogaerts) and so from this point of view we do have the option. For example Kemp@16m vs. Kemp & JBJ at 16.5m, Drew & Bogaerts at 13.5m or Drew, Bogaerts & WMB at 14m It would not be the end of the world to be averaging 10M per full time position (including DH). I do believe that the FO is building their pen to not include Dempster in 2014 so that could be another 10M off our overall pitching budget.
  10. I believe that James has cred with the ownership team ... if his projections for JBJ, WMB, Pedey, Bogaerts, Papi, Vic, Nap's are collectively even 90% accurate then we really do not have a need to overspend on Kemp or Drew. Adding either Kemp or Drew or both would add great depth to our roster and improve our chances to win the AL East. Obviously we will not have the spots available in the next 2-4 years for all of our top 20 prospects so using them as capital to acquire Kemp would probably be worth considering. Of course we can put our top 5 on a do not trade list and hope that those players are not on the Dodgers request list.
  11. Your all set then with a projection of 100+ wins next season. I guess the Sox will be playing for a wild card spot.
  12. So much disrespect for Jacoby UN ... He was a big part of 2 - that's right - 2 of our Championships ... Did he sell out ... yeah but maybe you and I would do the same if it were our profession ... he is an elite lead off hitter and he will do well with the Yankees. Cano might not have the same numbers that we have seen as he does not have as much of a supporting cast in Seattle. I would pitch around him whenever possible.
  13. Good post! ... I like the idea of Hart replacing Gomes ... but don't tell MVP. I do not think Hart will end up in Boston based on a few interviews that I have read. Kemp would be a pretty interesting buy low opportunity ... any prospects that go back to LA would have a 30% chance of becoming something special especially should Owens & Cecchini remain on our do-not-trade list.
  14. What type of deal do you see for Drew?
  15. very well ... I am just trying to build more harmony in the clubhouse ... carry on then.
  16. That's a loss of about 4-5 games alone.
  17. I am over the loss of Elsbury now that the Spankmes lost Cano.
  18. Never say never ... when you look at the top 100 prospects list in reality each club should have 3.3 players on the list. The Sox dominate with 8 players but there are not any players on the list coming close to what Stanton gives you. If the top 100 list were revised and Staton were on the list along with 3 other Sox players instead of the 8 they have now IMO the Sox would be better off. Could Miami really turn down an offer where they can add 5 top club controlled prospects for 1 player who has battled some injuries. No matter how good Staton is it matters little without the necessary complimentary players around him. You can always pitch around him.
  19. Yankee's messed up ... they saw Jacoby as the spark-plug to the Sox success. They already had Gardner ... but do not count Jacoby out ... he is a stud athlete and will do some good things in NY.
  20. True dat!
  21. Stanton is high risk and higher reward. It is like signing a young Manny before his prime. Sox do have more players in the pipeline that they will need to leverage one way or another. Remember, the following players are good for the next 5 years: Pedey, Bogaerts, WMB, JBJ, Vasquez = that is 5 of the 8 positions. Adding Stanton would make it 6 of 8. We also have Cechini and Brentz who both project well going forward. Should the Sox extend Lester and Buchholz and Owens meets his projections we will have plenty of pitching talent as well. Could be the right time to make a bold move for Stanton. Just saying.
  22. They really need Garza and 1 more ... since there is not much out there it could lead to them having to overpay for both FA pitchers.
  23. The important thing is that our overall defense at the catching position improved a lot. What makes the McCann signing such an overpayment was both AAV and number of years for a player that only plays 66% of the time. I agree that A.J. is being overpaid ... but probably only by 2 million. By some metrics he is high on the list for defensive capabilities. Let's move on to more pressing matters.
