Come on Fred ... I called Ell's in pinstripes a long long time ago. It makes perfect sense. I also said that Ell's will hit 20 HR next season and should he play with the NYY my prediction becomes that much more doable.
This is a good post ... just because the Yankees go on a spending spree does not necessarily put them over the LT. Longer contracts is the trademark of the Yankees ... they have plenty of revenue to offset any foolish signings.
Let's face it the Yankees had no other option but to sign McCann. It is a good signing. I have a feeling that they are going to land Ellsbury for much of the same reasons ... good defender, lefty hitting in a little league stadium.
I think that we have a strong farm that can produce 3-5 more players over the next two years as well as JBJ, Bogaerts and maybe Vasquez this year. Rules -- I was referring to luxury taxes. The Yankees had some pretty high payrolls.
What options are out there for SP? I do not think that the Yankees have the prospects to get in on David Price. Not to kick the Yankees when they are down but it looks like a long road back. Of course 2013 was an amazing surprise for the Sox's so certainly there are not absolutes.
I am hoping that Salty signs with another team. I would rather let the youngsters on the farm compete for the job along with Ross with the hopes that one of the them will rise to the occasion and be MLB ready by 2015. That is only one fan's take on this. If you want to bring in Hanigan to replace Ross that is fine with me also.
Not to be disrespectful but you answered your own question. McCann will help you for one or two seasons but it is your Starting Rotation and the lose of Mariano that seems to be where you are lacking the most.
Having the 6th highest WRC+ of a catcher is not saying much. You better home that you sign Cano ... you loose Cano and you are toast because McCann ain't going to come close to filling that gap. How does the starting rotating look for the Yanks next year?
Why not just go after Bautista in 2015 instead of giving up our top prospects. We need to take a year off so we can dominate the following 6-7 years. Not saying that we cannot win with what we have in 2014 ... we can.
Fred ... help me here a little ... what were the rules back in 96-01? Please do not forget JBJ ... this kid will not get 50+ SB's but he will be good with the glove, perhaps a better OBP and perhaps more HR's .... Look to 2015.
