    Our batting lineup just didn't have any major holes in it last year. We had jacoby stealing plenty of bases and hitting 300 when it was all said and done. We had vic who provided power for a stretch in late july and hit up near 290. We had pedey who hit 300. We had papi who hit almost 310 and had 30 hrs. Nap 2013 has pretty much been the nap of this year production wise. Nava hit 300 and carried out team with nap in april. Salty hit up over 270 and was a doubles machine. Jose Iglesias was tearing it up for his time here and drew started coming around after the all star break. Gomes wasn't great but he was a better contributor than this year. Our third base production wasn't too great but that was about it. This year our lineup is full of holes.

    9 times we have been shut out this season. Only 4 times did we get shut out last year through 89 games. At least we have 't been as bad as the padres who have been shut out 12 time already, but still gotta be better o.

    Hell just to get to 500 they gotta play .575 ball which is unlikely for this team.

    I agree. Even if they played .666 baseball for the rest of the way out, they would still only finish with 87 wins. And .666 baseball for the last 73 games is incredibly unlikely for any team let alone this suck bag one.

    Th bullpen has been solid. But the starting pitching hasn't. I'm merely talking about the starting pitching.

    The white sox are third with only two less than us. Quality starts can mean a 4.50 era or 0 era. Theres a big discrepancy. And the white sox are one of the worst staffs in the al with a 4.44 era. Although the starting pitching isn't the big problem, it hasn't been stellar.

    I know carrol had an era over 5, but he did pitch well today. His sinker was down in the zone all night and he caused a number of our hitters to hit weak ground balls. However, thats not an excuse. People (especially nesn) like to overrate how good our starting pitching has been this year. Its been alright overall at best as it is currently 11th in the al with a combined era of 4.14 (very slightly higher now after clays start tonight). Lackey hasn't been pitching too well his last three starts and during that ten game losing streak we had in may, our starting pitching was horrendous. The staff has been inconsistent this year and is not being criticized enough because of how bad the offense has been.

    Only good thing is that it seems like ortiz is starting to heat up. 7 hits in his last 3 games.

    I agree. This season is worse than 2012. Many people forget that the offense in 2012 was second in runs scored before the all star break. The pitching was just god awful. And you can't even count how the sox performed after the agon, beckett, punto, crawford trade because they were minus their best hitters do to injury in david ortiz and adrian gonzalez due to trade. If this team can only muster 70 wins while keeping its current composition, this year will be a colossal failure .

    2 for his last 47 is xander with 16 strikeouts. Its been very painful for him.
