  1. Its a matter of context. If the rest of the team is bashing the baseball or out pitching is outstanding. Right now neither is the case. Only then I am OK with an average CF offensively. As you know our offense has come back down to earth and with guys like Wong and Toro and others playing semi regularly we cannot afford a CF with an OPS in the .700 range. We have been struggling to score runs of late although for a while we were bashing.. I do not expect that to continue, not with the level of talent on the team. Since the ASB we are 29th in runs scored and 25th in OPS. And the Ks cannot contiue-we are striking out more than every team but two. Gotta make contact to win games. This is not ok if the goal is to play baseball in Oct.
  2. This is in the category of “I’ll believe it when I see it”. I think he’ll be in the .700-.720 range because he has a basic flaw that’s very hard to overcome. And that kind of OPS simply isn’t good enough.
  3. He’s actually at .782 this year. That would be fine with me, given his defensive abilities. His career .705 OPS isn’t ok. If he can maintain his 2015 numbers despite his K/BB and poor plate discipline all year I’ll be happy with his performance. But I expect his performance will migrate down to his career numbers as the season progresses and everyone gets tired.
  4. We were going to lose as soon as we didn’t score in the top of the tenth. But it’s foolish to think that a rookie catcher has nothing to learn from a very good 14 year veteran. Thinks like blocking bad pitches and avoiding catcher interference….
  5. Are you foolishly claiming that Narvaez couldn’t benefit from the advice from a catcher with 14 years of major league experience? Narvaez is a ROOKIE and he’s making rookie mistakes. Tek needs to take him aside and teach him the finer points of playing the position. He clearly needs it.
  6. My guess is that at the end of the year his OPS will be in the .700 range. And he still won’t learn plate discipline. It will be his Armageddon and his career won’t be a long one because of this defect.
  7. Obviously he could benefit with more lessons. Playing in the minors isn’t the same as in the ML. Tek was an excellent major league catcher. Narvaez may be one eventually but so far he hasn’t earned that label.
  8. Tonight’s game? I agree. I didn’t expect it to be competitive.
  9. “The team as a whole far surpassed what anyone of us expected. ” I don’t know what YOU expected but I know this: YOU only speak for YOU”. I speak for me alone and I expected a better performance this year than the flops have so far demonstrated. They are UNDERPERFORMING imo. Last year they didn’t have the personnel to win. They improved in that regard and yet they STILL can’t get the job done.
  10. Maybe he has. But obviously it didn’t sink in yet. Narvaez is a rookie and unless his mistakes are corrected he’ll continue to make them. Fortunately we have one of the best (retired) catchers available to teach him the ropes. Not to take advantage of Teks knowledge would be stupid.
  11. Its been a recurring problem with him (the catchers interference). He needs some friendly instruction from someone who knows the game better than he does-Varitek.
  12. He’s basically all we have at catcher. Still, Cora or better still Varitek should privately talk to him about his rookie mistakes.
  13. Think Chapman will be as good next year or the year after when the FLOPS might be competitive again? Let’s trade him while his value is still high.
  14. I’d trade Chapman since the team isn’t competitive anyway. Plan for next year or the year after. I don’t care who closes for these bums.
  15. He’d had company. Duran failed to move Ref to 3B in the 10th. Too many swings at balls a foot off the plate.
  16. Trade both. This team is going nowhere. Even if the squeak into the playoffs they’ll be quickly eliminated.
  17. Anthony joins the bum parade by striking out on a ball that was eye level then another one in the dirt. Game over.
  18. Casellanos should join the Flops. He Ks on a ball a foot outside
  19. Because I think we could get an excellent return for him. He won’t be better next year. And others could close.
