  1. Yes i do believe counting his Japanese teams signing fee or whatever its called it totaled up to 100million I would save the 17+ million per year & not sign sanchez next years FA crop is better Make a trade for middle rotation pitcher or sign a high ceiling injury prone 2012 pitcher to compete for a 4 or 5 spot at the start of the year & if by mid season the sox are in contention & every year good pitchers are on the block because their respected teams fall out of contention then a trade needs to be made & cost less at mid season that at the start of the year Sign jackson (innings eater) & take a chance or give a prospect a shot
  2. 1st off i do hope they get Greinke & not the Dodgers But it seems the Dodgers are tired of waiting on Greinke to decide when they feel like he is just using them to drive his price up 2nd Texas wont have that big of log jam in the infield if they make the trade with the DBacks.... In the Upton trade they are gonna want atleast two players. Olt Moreland Profar Kinsler or Andrus two of which will be traded plus prolly some prospect pitchers not high end but descent to sweeten the deal All of this depends on if they do the deal straight up I think the Guardians & Mariners & Rays are just gonna complicate the trade too much so talks will continue but eventually the Rangers will pull the trigger when Grienke is signed
  3. Yes!! That is the only thing that saved us I think if Dempster doesnt go back to the NL he very well could go to the Royals They are thinking they have a shot this year...they may take over 2nd best team past the White Sox by only a slim margin of games but they in no logical way are gonna take over the central from the Tigers By the team thinking they are in they will overpay & i hope they do so the rumors & worried souls of red sox fans dont have to stress bout seeing Dempster go 4 - 15 and a 5.50 ERA this year and not be able to trade him at the deadline without getting horrible prospects back and picking up a huge part of his salary
  4. Jackson a 3 for 39 would prolly be close.. but it as the pitchers start coming off the board his AAV will go up. The FO will prolly wait around & have to overpay it will possibly be in the 3/45 range Sanchez is the 2nd best pitcher in most eyes he might get 4/68 or 5/85 I hope they go after Jackson quickly & pass on Sanchez and wait till next year when Lincuem is on the market & no to Dempster or Loshe... both sound stay in the NL the AL east is not the place sign Juregens to a 1 or 2 year deal
  5. I thought they would have signed McCarthy... I wouldnt put all my eggs in one basket and hope for a blockbuster trade for a legit #1 or #2 pitcher. Now with McCarthy in AZ do you think they will trade either Bauer or Cahill? i would love to see either one pitching for the red sox next season.
  6. For a pitcher like Cliff Lee I wouldnt mind to see Ells move along with some prospects that would be a huge move... but u have to factor into Lee salary because I think if they got blown away with an offer but the red sox would have to take over his whole contract philly dont move him & then still pay any for him Lester & Lee together at the top of the rotation would be scary for other clubs i like it
  7. Agreed. I think a lot of players' agent or tip of sources to get ahold of media sources to drive up the price on their client & make it seem a lot more team are involved so teams react & pay out quicker.. plus i think a lot is just made up rumors to keep fans talking &the interested when not many moves are happening
  8. Hamilton Napoli & Ortiz in the middle of the order Possibly the best 3 4 5 trio in baseball
  9. The Gomes deal had to for insurance of a right handed bat I keep seeing post of peoples line up with Gomes starting in left Even tho he may be the best guy in the world & keeps the clubhouse atmosphere in check, i find it hard to believe that the franchise with all of red sox nation looking on say ok we r gonna run an outfield of Gomes - Ells -Vic when u have $ & hamilton & swisher are still unsigned. They need a bat in the middle of the order to solidify the order I agree that defense & pitching win championships but for respectiblity another move to the outfield has to be done Baseball is a game & it is also a business & from a business aspect a team has to have a storyline especially in the big market media that is boston. The Oakland story of lastyear was a feel good story & shows the drama of sports, but i dont think that the management & owners can throw a team out there and say hey the sabermetics say we will be good just trust us. Ticket sells will be down & people will lose interest quickly and by the first week of May they start sayin "Wait till next Year we will be better!" It is still early in the offseason and moves are still to be made. I think sooner rather than later a splash move will be made to put people in the seats & people tuning in at home But winning is what all things better we'll just have to wait & see
  10. Wow that is interesting Never would of thought of that... I have to say im surprised but those WAR #s are Vic playing CF correct... i didnt pay any attention when he went to LA where he played at
  11. Thats what i think too... this was an insurance signing so if jackie bradley is not ready to assume the job in 2014. I know they say ellsbury is off the block but still it seems like some teams are calling and the right trade for a pitcher will need him outta here
  12. I did not know that I thought the salary paid for the season Thank You
  13. Salty He is more valuable as a trade chip to bring us pitching than a primary catcher I do like his power potential but he is extremely streaky far too often The red sox tried to get him from Texas for a few years before they landed him I would honestly like to hear what Gary Tuck & John Farrell feel about Salty Maybe another year would be good or atleast half a season to see what hes got Lav is the catcher of the future but a little time to start the season in AAA & get his confidence up & let him hit a few homers then bring him up might be the best scenario lav's major league experience was a little too disappointing to hand over the job thats why i think the david ross signing was good.. an overpay but a good sign
  14. Rather take a chance on Dice-K than sign for Dempster or trade for R.A. Dickey But as was said earlier if he had 1 bad game the media would be all over it Maybe the best course of action would be to have a guy that Jurrgens or one of the young propects to be that middle relief bridge to build confidence until moving into the rotation next year So unless Dice-K would accept a 1 year 3million deal i say no I just hope some rotation pieces start to fall our way and soon
  15. That very well could happen. Id hate it see Hamilton in Pinstripes but letting Grandson and Cano go could be what the Yankees do. If they sign him for a contract less than 5years id be divested. Id dont care if its Larry or Ben or John Henry who pulls the trigger on the Hamilton deal but someone better pull the trigger or make a huge trade for a big bat. But a bat bigger than Hamilton(when heathly) is gonna be hard to pull off Hamilton in New York on a 3 or 4 year deal around 20million would lite a fire under fans soo huge that for years to come boston fns would be calling for the heads of the FO officials.. If the owners wanted to make a spsh &sign get
  16. I hate the fact that they paid soo much for Dice-K & for two years he was good now for the last 3 years he has been rehabing from injuries & they have put soo much time and effort to get him back to the old Dice-K that id hate to see him go to another club of a japanese team and excel If he would accept a Tim Linceum roll as Tim did in this years post season and come in middle relief & be a bridge to the regular relievers than ive be all for that I know it sounds like a crazy idea but seeing how it worked for the Giants and if the rotation doesnt get fortified then we will need a bridge so our regualr relievers are notoverworked
  17. Agreed. McCarthy was slotted as the #2 in Oakland last season, Fenway is going to be a change for any pitcher comin in the 1st full season... his freak head injury was something that couldnt be controlled it could happen to any pitcher. Jurrgens as young as he is could be a high upside guy & i think if the sox dont someone else is going to & prolly get a nice return Jackson - i have a crazy feeling he'll be a red sox another overpay Loshe- should just stay with the Cardinals Dempster- Dear God please no no no no R.A. Dickey - Our prospects are worth more than him anyday In the perfect world we would have the trade chips on the major league roster & the prospects to go out & make a trade for a guy like Rick Porcello to be our #3 Lester Bucholz Porcello #4 starter(Homer Bailey/Jurrgens/McCarty/Floyd/Jackson) Lackey/ Doubrant. Lackey is only gonna pitch around 120-140 innings at best this year & letting Doubrant picking up the rest of the slack my work out very nicely
  18. If Bailey can come back to his form in Oakland then the closer spot is set Ive said time & time again Brian Wilson needs to come in here on a 2 year deal 16 million woould prolly get him... (AAV is high for a pitcher coming off his 2nd TJ but the $ talks &u to get him away from CA is gonna take a high AAV) Agreed our bullpen as it sits now is one of the best if not the best top to bottom in baseball but if our starting rotation doesnt get some help and allow them to got into the late innings & the bullpen gets over worked early in the year it would be no fault of the bullpens arms to fatigue over the course of the year it would be the FO fault for not gting them any help.
  19. I believe the media with factor into his decision making which will be strike against bean town. But i dont think Seattle with all the rain & bad weather would be a good fit for him Milwaukee has stated that they are not in on Hamilton many times... but at 3 years id say a lot more teams are in than they let on Philly is a team that I think is a big player & need an outfielder i wouldnt rule then out until hamilton is signed elsewhere
  20. I knew the Yankees were being too quiet Hamilton might want to go there... hed hit 72+ hrs a year in that little league left field But if they want to get under the cap signing hamilton is out of the question unless they want to only have 12 players listed on their 25 man roster... 6 positon players & 6 pitchers
  21. Speaking of Dice-K do u think he will sign anywhere? Ive seen reports that a Japanese team has offered him a ton of money I dont want him back even on a 1 year deal that ship has sailed
  22. Scott Boras being his agent is a big knock on teams believing they will be able to resign him. I know that the BC & Farrell have both said they Ells would not be traded but a trade with Cincy prolly makes a lot of sense. Cincy needs a lead-off hitter & a center fielder. Th ey were a contender last year & they were a contender last year so one addition might just what they feel would get them over the hump Ellsbury for Homer Bailey would be nice Lester Bucholz Floyd Bailey Lackey/Doubrant But if Ells stays which it is looking like more & more & Salty stays as well, the red sox will go after the comeback pitchers who had injuries or down years Brandon McCarthy or Jurrjens might be signing on 1 year deals Another name I think will be considered in Boston will be Edwin Jackson i know hes a Scott Boras client as well but on a 3/39 which seems to be the trend wouldnt surprise me
  23. I just read that the Dodgers are considering pulling out on signing Grienke The Dodgers are believing that they are just being used to drive the price up I hope like hell the Rangers land him... it will prolly be in the 160million + range Trade talks with the Dbacks are still going on to aquire Upton as well Texas would be getting better no doubt in their rotation But I am glad that the Red Sox are not in on Grienke He is gonna become the highest paid pitcher in history Im not saying hes not good i just dont think he is worth more than a Verlander, King Felix, or a David Price but Texas thinking he is worth that load of $$$ helps us With the domino of Grienke falling to Texas they are good as well out on Hamilton So come on down Josh Hamilton the water is fine!!!
  24. The payroll now as it currently is around 120million with arbitration Last year payroll was at 175 million that being said the sox have 69 million to play with Hamilton at 25 per year is not gonna hurt Still 44 million to get pitching the offseason could get interesting
