    I dont want to be in last place again but I dont think we HAVE to make the playoffs either. BC has said he's trying to be patient and smart, its way too early to judge whether he's living by those words or not. Also consider who won the last three World Series. San Fran twice and St Louis. Why? Not because of high priced batters but because of solidity in all phases of the game, especially pitching.

    I think theres a good chance that a team out there with nothing to lose that will overpay Hamilton and we shouldnt match it. Even if that team is the Yankees.

    Yeah but that what the Marlins do. They buy championships and then sell them. Plus it serves them right for not filling those bright orange seats that blind me everytime I see a highlight

    Im kind of leery about Hamilton. The drug thing is one thing but I also hear stuff about his attitude from some of the Rangers. Im also leery about his health issues and whether its from the drug use.

    I look at San Francisco Giants and say paying alot of money for one guy, especially a batter is a mistake. I wonder if we could get Swisher and Napoli for the same price as Hamilton. Or Swisher and Youk. Im all for Youk coming back if his health problems seem solvable and the price is right. I was surprised to see that he's only 34.

    They say that this years crop of free agents is pretty weak so I dont want to go crazy filling up a roster. That'd put us back in the predicament we just left. The only person out there that Id like to spend serious money on would be Greinke. Other than that, Id like to find some diamonds in the rough and wait til we get exactly the guy we want. Having said that I would like to go for a championship while Papi is still good.

    When I Google Red Sox it seems all the talk is about non pitchers. Isnt pitching a priority? What about Greinke?

    I really wanted a new Varitek. Maybe I got my wish with better defense.

    That info about Ross concerning LH/RH puts a kibosh on my thinking about keeping Salty so I guess it makes sense to trade him now.

    With Ross being a righty, wouldnt it make sense to keep Salty as a lefty? Maybe keep all three for the time being and have Lavarnway get better in the minors.

    I disagree whole heartedly if only for talents sake. Papi seems to be more dedicated to fitness than he ever has. The last two years he has looked trimmer and his numbers have been great and theres no reason to think that will change, despite the new contract. Beyond his talents though I disagree even moreso because he has been the model of dramaless positivity throughout last season. He has done NOTHING but do the right thing and I think its because he has a real love for the Red Sox, not for the new contract. As for VTek and Martinez, I like the move for VTek but hope that Martinez and the unnamed pitching coach wont clash.

    I would love to see Youk back. If we got him and Napoli, another righty, Youk could take some days off while Napoli could take some days off from catcher, allowing Salti, a lefty, to catch.
