  1. I do like the Sandoval signing. Fills a gap the right way in my opinion. This is an opinion board - correct? I like reading yours. Occasionally they make sense to me. As for me saying anything that could be taken as a personal affront, won't happen. Not my style. You want to take shots at me - feel free. I just retired as a fairly successful basketball coach after 44 years. Seen, heard it, done it once or twice before. I also believe that it is possible to win with good people. I am glad Manny could hit but in essence he was a cheater and a buffoon. I am in hopes that Hanley R. will not repeat his stupidity. I guess we were fortunate in some ways that we had Manny on our side. He could not have survived in an environment where he actually had to be coached.
  2. Oh for God's sake, that is not being whiny. That is being from New England. It is a Red Sox thing. Positive - Let me see - I like Sandoval at third base. I was a history teacher so I like the fact that it repeats itself - Ramirez for Ramirez in left? I will definitely be positive if he stays healthy and hits.
  3. Interesting! Based on If they both develop accordingly, I might still consider a move for a real arm.
  4. I agree. I like Joe Kelly as much as anybody that that they have right now.
  5. I really like the positivity but if those 2 guys both get 13 to 15 wins and have ERA's under 4, I would be stunned. If I was a betting man, sorry but I would bet against that one. As for Masterson, I hope he can relocate the 3 mph that he lost or that ball won't be sinking. I'm trying to believe in all this but I don't know.
  6. Vazquez this year for sure. A great defensive catcher. If Swihart becomes what we think he could become, there is no way that they both ultimately stay in Boston. Would make absolutely no sense. It's a good problem to have though. Think about the best catchers we have had then think about their backups. You want one of these two guys going every 4th or 5th day? Not likely. It will be interesting to see if we have over rated another "potential" player.
  7. Cespedes has been adequately replaced by an equal malcontent - Hanley Ramirez. Same guy that played in Portland all those years ago. Hope he hits!
  8. We got better but no way is that staff quality. Porcello is maybe a good 2 . the rest - a bunch of 3.4 and 5's no matter what spin you give it. It's all just a guess. I like Renaudo and Kelley every bit as much as Miley and Masterson. No big additions there. Quote all the stats you like . It aint there boys. For all who think that giving up Cespedes will help in the clubhouse, we still got Hanley. He is the same head case today that he was 10 years ago. They will be more interesting to watch but without at least one stopper, there isn't enough there. Might get us out of the cellar though.
  9. I agree. I just am reluctant to trade power arms but in this case maybe it was the right call. I would trade the X man in a heartbeat. I think that he may become a decent hitter but if he is our future ss that is not good. He may get better but at his best he is average defensively. Our current catching position may become another area to look at in the future. If Switheart is as good as he projects to be, there will not be room for 2 catchers of the quality that it looks like we might have. There are plenty of options to throw out there to get the arm that we need.
  10. Oh thank you. I do act a lot younger than I am.
  11. I still don't buy giving up any potential arms to get another potential arm when it looks like you could be dealing from strength. How will you feel about that pitching staff if Masterson winds up in there as well? Joe Kelley looks like our "ace" to me.
  12. Oh wait - We also gave up a third player in this exchange. Maybe another pitcher! I'm starting to get bitter and that is sad. I cheered hard for Dick Stuart and Felix Mantilla back in the 60's. I also think that Louis Tiant and Tony Oliva and maybe even Dick Allen should all be in the hof.
  13. I don't disagree but I hate to see young arms (2 in this case) go for another mid to back of the rotation guy. Smacks of panic to me. A huge glut of outfielders and we give up 2 young arms for Miley. No way that makes one bit of sense. Bring back Tim Wakefield!
  14. Wade Miley! Are you kidding me. Our problems are solved now. You could have brought Bill Lee out of retirement for a lot less and probably gotten just as much out of him. Seriously. Spin it any way you want to statistically, not working with me. Just another back of the rotation filler that we gave up two kids for. Keep chucking it against the wall boys. Maybe something will stick. Dan Duquette is starting to look better and better to me.
  15. Wade Miley! Really? Let's see - I will take Renaudo, Webster, Ruby D.,Barnes, Workman, Owens, Tiant, Momboquette, Wilson, Moorehead, and Bill Lee before I take him right now. Come on. don't do this to me.
  16. What is confusing to me is that they really don't seem to have a plan. You sign a guy out of Cuba who has never played in the majors you throw 88 million at Hanley Ramirez and hope he can play left field. I'm a New Englander so I will continue to support them. I appreciate the 3 titles but if our minor leaguers were as good as we think they are, this team should never finish last in the East. From the position players Betts is the only one that I would not be willing to move. In terms of pitchers, maybe Renaudo is a keeper. Other than that I would move any and all to better this team and it is pretty obvious what they need. The money issue really troubles me. If there is a budget, it is self imposed. John Henry can afford whatever he wants. It kind of looks to me like the boys are just throwing something against the wall in hopes of it sticking!
  17. I agree. Sad though when it becomes too much about the $. Guaranteed money will always bug me.
  18. Keep the faith. I would like to see Cueto coming our way.
  19. I think that they all have major league contracts and are getting paid. If Victorino is healthy, he will be in right. Ramirez in left I guess. I realize Castillo signed for a good amount and they will plan on having him out there. Was it a good signing? If it was - based on what?
  20. Give me some stats to help me out - Isn't Ramirez in left just a hope that he will hit, stay healthy, and maybe just maybe play a descent left field. You see Castillo an automatic in their outfield? I hope that he turns out to be the player everyone wants him to be. Just a couple of years ago JB was fielding and hitting at a major league level in the minors. I don't see both Ramirez and Castillo starting in that outfield unless they move Betts which I hope they don't. 88 mil. to Ramirez? once agin, they must know a lot of things we don't.
  21. Been a fan since 1955 so I have seen many interesting twists and turns. Didn't see the Sox losing out by 20 mil. to the Cubs. I am not seeing the logic in some of their recent decisions. Help me out here. 3rd base I get but 88 mil. to an infielder to play left field. The excitement surrounding Castillo having no major league experience. Allen Craig? I hope there is method to the madness here. If not, am I looking at something as foolish as losing Fisk., Burleson, and Lynn? I truly believed that they would match the Cubs $ for $. Oh well, like I said I have seen quite a bit over the years. Let's see if we can pull off another Sparky Lyle for Danny Cater deal.
  22. I hate to admit it but I had forgotten about the Maddon factor as well. if he goes to the Cubs, good luck to him and them.
  23. I really am sick of the drama this story has created. I would like to see Lester back in Boston but he really isn't the answer to our pitching issues. He would be a start. Grossly overpaid but hey whatever the market dictates right. Once again, I think that he is the best #2 starter out there. He is a horse - an innings eater who will probably be an effective pitcher in a decent rotation for 3 maybe 4 years. if he goes elsewhere, something else will develop. One window closes another one opens. I will be glad when this one is over.
  24. I would like to see Lester back but still think we deal from a good position. The money and the years have gone past being a little foolish. Ultimately they will figure it out. Masterson would be just a small piece of the bigger puzzle.
  25. If Lester comes our way so be it. If he doesn't - move on. He may be the best #2 starter in the game. A big innings eater but certainly not the best in the game. He isn't worth the kind of $ it looks like he may get. I would like to see him in Boston but the Sox are cash loaded.
