  1. I think that Cespedes's bat would be an instant improvement to our offense. We still have questions about where the run production is going to come from. I like both JBJ and Castillo from a fielding, speed, potential hitting and attitude perspective. You sign Cespedes and you certainly have some trade chips. I think that Dombrowski and John Henry both want to add one more very solid arm. I think that they will do it. On the negative side, what is Castillo all about? Does he want to be back in Boston? there is some some wheeling and dealing going on and I like it.
  2. There are many people who will always want something for nothing . I don't blame them for trying but much of the time you get what you pay for. With respect to the Kimbrel trade, I know a little about 2 out of the 4 . Guerra probably was not going to be playing shortstop in Fenway. Margot may become a solid player as well. We have 3 young outfielders with support in the minor leagues that I think will cover him fine. The question will always be could we have squeezed a little more out of what we had to deal with. Dombrowski is respected throughout the league. He said what he was going to do and he has done it. Henry supports it. I really like what I am hearing about Price as well. He seems genuine. He wants to win. I find his interest in what we have coming in our farm system to be a good sign as well.
  3. they clearly didn't get the memos that these old farts have seen better days. Just imagine Greinke making that kind of money when he is 37 and 38. Looks like the boys in the desert want to win.
  4. Based on what Greinke just signed for , I would say that it is liquid gold over the dam. What's up with these teams signing all these old bastards for that kind of money. Somebody other than Dombrowsi i guess has a wad of cash to throw around.
  5. you need an ace. We didn't have an ace last year nor did we try to get one. We didn't - we should have - it sucked. Most people felt that at some point they would try get a top of the rotation guy. Nope - We are going in a new direction. If we have a good year, as far as I am concerned you can give anybody the credit. I know all about how some teams have been successful without an ace. We weren't and aren't one of those teams. We now have a top pitcher at both ends whom we don't have to hope will perform better than they ever have.
  6. Very true. In the end we all have our own opinions. Most of us are proud and stubborn. It has become a bit like a political debate. In the end, it really doesn't matter. No one person gets the blame or the credit. I just really like the direction that we are going in. the one thing that I will say about Ben Cherington is that everyone seems to be in agreement that he is a pretty good guy who worked hard and had the club's best interests in mind. All good stuff.
  7. Give Ben Cherington the credit he deserves what ever you think that it might be. I like the direction that we are heading in. We have needed the ace now we have one. We signed one of the best bullpen options that we could get. 3 of our top 10 prospects are starting pitchers. If Cherington deserves credit for that, I think that that is just wonderful. What DD has done is not quite as simple as it might look. Regardless of the money he had, he still had some selling to do. i like his aggressiveness and I like what he sees as our needs. I hope that he is not done. Still got some issues to resolve. I like championships but I can tell you I like the hunt maybe even more than the kill. I want us to compete year in and year out. Finishing last 3 out of 4 years sucked and screwed up my summer.
  8. Great post except for that passive-aggresssive stuff at the end. I actually agree with your Dombrowski points. As for your point about me being passive-aggressive - could be a little I guess. On the internet, on a forum board, I might hint around at my true feelings as opposed to actually expressing myself the way I would if I was looking at a person in the face. My guess is that it is not all that unusual. Hey - It is all good right?
  9. What is a little confusing to me is that we lost Margot and Guerra and all of a sudden 3 of our top 6 prospects are starting pitchers. Public relations ploy or what? Either the trading of 2 guys that could become decent players absolutely decimated our farm system or these 3 pitchers might be pretty good. If our farm is solid, something good should come from at least one of them.
  10. yes - In a way I guess there is a point. In my opinion, you can't look at any person's job in an isolated manner like this. I could sign a political pardon but I don't think that I could be President. Just the whole concept of looking at a person and the job they do in a very singular way I guess. Once again, I won't be criticizing the overall job that Ben Cherington did. I could not have done his job even if it meant just throwing $ around. I don't really like to spend my own. I'm not speaking for anyone else here but I am happy with the direction we are heading in now.
  11. Nothing to it. Anyone could do that job. Just like teaching and coaching. At least that is what I heard from some people.
  12. Absoutely! Ultimately it really doesn't matter I guess. It's like monopoly money to these guys. I give Ben and Theo tremendous credit for what they accomplished. I will always feel that Ben stepped out of his role when he took over for Theo. It is a difficult job. Even blessed with an abundance of cash, I could never have done it and would not have even wanted to try. I think that it takes a special person to recognize the problems and get the job done. There is a reason why Warren Buffet laughs when his friends ask him why he never owned a professional franchise. I don't think that he is interested in dealing with any fans. A lot more involved here I think than just throwing money at players. I wonder how many people here would have gotten excited if the Sox could have traded Ramirez, Sandoval, and Porcello for Price. Those 3 signings alone make the expensive signing of Price almost look like a bargain.
  13. I don't think DD would have made that deal for Porcello. There is nor there will be any comparison between the two pitchers. Not to worry, Porcello's contract will expire at about the same time Price's will. The future looks good. I had many questions about the Porcello deal. 21 million dollars per year for a middle of the rotation guy with potential or 31 million dollars for a first class ace. I like the ace. I think that he will be much tougher to replace than the #3. I actually am glad that we have them both though. The franchise can afford them and more and the future will not be bothered at all. I wouldn't be surprised if the dealing continues. It would be good to have one more starter who we could actually count on. Price Rodriguez Porcello Miley Buchholtz (first half) - Kelly (second half) Still not too bad though. I fully understand about the length of Price's contract. No issue for me.
  14. I wouldn't be surprised if there is another deal in the works. DD has everybody thinking that we are done. Probably a pretty good chance that we won't get screwed in a trade now. Somebody might have to really show their cards if they actually want some of our surplus. A lot of things could still happen. When it comes to Price, I would bet on him being more than good beyond the 3 year time frame. He keeps himself in very good shape. Father Time comes calling for us all just a little later for some than others.
  15. I got nothing. Theo and Ben all the way. How did we ever get stuck with this Dumbrowski guy? We don't even need a GM. done here - nothing to say - stunned to silence. Good job.
  16. Price is a much better bet. I agree. Cherington is a good man and did well at what he does best. I am all for giving him credit but Dumbrowski's experience factor alone is worth a great deal. The right person at the right time. i can't believe that what he has done since he has been with the team is anywhere as easy as some suggest it is. We have needed someone like him for a while now. Good for him and great for us!
  17. Lots of time yet. Lots of things could happen.
  18. a tax rate of 30%???
  19. Johnny was at least a million dollar man based on the simple fact that he was who he is for us. His attitude - his approach to the game- his qualities a s a teammate! Never had to worry about Johnny. Contrary to what some think, guys like Johnny have a way of coming up big in the tough situations.
  20. I don't think that they have had a spending limit. they just have some one who wants to spend it in a different way. i like his way.
  21. I'm with you. i am not going to look 3 years down the trail. We have one of the tops in the game. Does not affect the future of this team in any other than a positive way. It is all good. I can't wait for the spring. People might be shaking heads right now but I doubt they are laughing at us as they have been doing lately. He is a leader - he is physically fit - he is cocky confident. Great for us.
  22. When a multi billionaire chooses to purchase a professionial sports team, most of the other billionaires tend to laugh at him or her. We are fortunate to have an ownsership team that doesn't mind to listen to all of the other ******** about how they should be spending their money. We got Price and they don't. We have a get it done GM. The future of this team looks very good.
  23. They have the money and they are spending for the best as opposed to looking for the sales and trying to get something for little or nothing. You get what you pay for. This year we have purchased two of the very best so far. One cost players one cost $. Great for the franchise and probably will wind up making Mr. Henry more money that he will have trouble spending in his lifetime. Sox fever once again.
  24. Have to love a guy who tells you what needs to be done, then just gets it done. We got the best pitcher on the market (argueably). We have one of the top closers in the game. We have a player who might be a decent 4th outfielder. They didn't go looking for black Friday sales. Got the best available! Good for them and good for us.
  25. Couldn't agree more! He gets to spend his money the way he wants to. He may sell out by 2019. it's day to day for me.
