  1. I think that he will be competing for a bullpen job as well.
  2. Miley is replaceable from within. We needed a player like Carson Smith. Elias just provides another possible option. Dombrowski is filling obvious gaps that we had no one ready to fill. Great job.
  3. It would be hypocritical if it just had to do with the amount of the contract. I might be a hypocrite. The Price contract makes sense to me. Number one it is isn't my money. Number two, he represents the ace that we need. Both Sandoval's and Buchholz's contract may make sense if they are able to perform. I hope that they both will but I am not confident of that happening. Personally, it is more about who you have playing the game day to day as opposed to the monopoly money that is being spent.
  4. I don't think that it is amazing. I think that it is a job well done!
  5. Interesting take and I hope that you are right. Just wonder if they think that Owens, Johnson, and Wright will basically give them Miley like production. I like Miley but I think the he is backed up here pretty well. Another deal that moves us forward.
  6. Once again, it looks like a move that attempts to address a real need. Hate to see Miley go, but we have arms enough to give us we we got from him. Maybe not just one, but a combination for sure.
  7. I like Miley but am thinking that the Sox feel that they can replace what he gives through Owens or a combination of Owens plus others. If Johnson is healthy, he will be interesting to watch. Even though it looks as though we know what we got in Miley - good consistent innings eater and not a bad pitcher overall as well, I still think that the potential that buchholtz, and Kelly have are intriguing to the Sox.
  8. We don't know whether any of the contracts that players sign are going to be worth it or not until they actually begin and then it is still open to opinion. The Price and Kimbrel deals could wind up looking good down the road as could Porcello's, Ramirez's, and Sandoval's. You have to roll the dice. I hope our dice are still rolling.
  9. Moncada and Benintendi will be moving on up I think. Espinoza is a promising young arm but his age keeps him a long way away. Really just a kid. I like Deevers, Chavis, and Travis. I like the fact that we have 2 potential third baseman ranked that high. It could be an area of need. I also like Kopech's potential. He has made some mistakes along the way. has a live arm.
  10. Cleveland looking for hitters. Lets go! Teams are interested in some of Boston's starters - (forever potential) Buchholz - Kelly - Miley-- Hope they hang on to Miley. The other 2 might help to bring us that other starting pitcher that we need or help to strengthen the bullpen.
  11. Is shutting people up for wanting an ace the same as shutting up the people who honestly believe that we weren't awinnin without one? has to be that the front office just crumbled to talk sox pressure once again.
  12. I like Salazar in a trade with the Guardians and wouldn't be surprised to see it happen at all.
  13. I think that a Cespedes signing makes a package that includes JBJ and Swihart plus a very real possibility. I think that personally I would prefer Castillo in that package as opposed to JBJ but I think that Castillo's contract would make that difficult to do. Now the tough part. Who would we match up with and how much would it take. What about Cleveland? A couple of good young arms up there for sure.
  14. You are paying Buchholtz for a half season potentially for number 1 through 4 work. 26 million for a whole year of him says that we are paying for nothing. We know that they all are satisfactorily rewarded for their work and even their non-work. I happen to like buchholtz for the work he does. He really isn't worth more than he is getting and I am sure that he is one happy guy. If someone thought they were getting a bargain, I would trade him in a heartbeat but I would not give him away. It may be his on year now that we have someone who can lead the way.
  15. I very much like the fact that we have a GM with a solid track who is experienced. I know that it is very selfish and personal but when I see moves made that I think should have been made and need to be made, I like it. I think that that is natural enough. I believe that he will address needs that we have without sacrificing the future. I really like what he has done so far.
  16. I think that Cespedes's bat would be an instant improvement to our offense. We still have questions about where the run production is going to come from. I like both JBJ and Castillo from a fielding, speed, potential hitting and attitude perspective. You sign Cespedes and you certainly have some trade chips. I think that Dombrowski and John Henry both want to add one more very solid arm. I think that they will do it. On the negative side, what is Castillo all about? Does he want to be back in Boston? there is some some wheeling and dealing going on and I like it.
  17. There are many people who will always want something for nothing . I don't blame them for trying but much of the time you get what you pay for. With respect to the Kimbrel trade, I know a little about 2 out of the 4 . Guerra probably was not going to be playing shortstop in Fenway. Margot may become a solid player as well. We have 3 young outfielders with support in the minor leagues that I think will cover him fine. The question will always be could we have squeezed a little more out of what we had to deal with. Dombrowski is respected throughout the league. He said what he was going to do and he has done it. Henry supports it. I really like what I am hearing about Price as well. He seems genuine. He wants to win. I find his interest in what we have coming in our farm system to be a good sign as well.
  18. they clearly didn't get the memos that these old farts have seen better days. Just imagine Greinke making that kind of money when he is 37 and 38. Looks like the boys in the desert want to win.
  19. Based on what Greinke just signed for , I would say that it is liquid gold over the dam. What's up with these teams signing all these old bastards for that kind of money. Somebody other than Dombrowsi i guess has a wad of cash to throw around.
  20. you need an ace. We didn't have an ace last year nor did we try to get one. We didn't - we should have - it sucked. Most people felt that at some point they would try get a top of the rotation guy. Nope - We are going in a new direction. If we have a good year, as far as I am concerned you can give anybody the credit. I know all about how some teams have been successful without an ace. We weren't and aren't one of those teams. We now have a top pitcher at both ends whom we don't have to hope will perform better than they ever have.
  21. Very true. In the end we all have our own opinions. Most of us are proud and stubborn. It has become a bit like a political debate. In the end, it really doesn't matter. No one person gets the blame or the credit. I just really like the direction that we are going in. the one thing that I will say about Ben Cherington is that everyone seems to be in agreement that he is a pretty good guy who worked hard and had the club's best interests in mind. All good stuff.
  22. Give Ben Cherington the credit he deserves what ever you think that it might be. I like the direction that we are heading in. We have needed the ace now we have one. We signed one of the best bullpen options that we could get. 3 of our top 10 prospects are starting pitchers. If Cherington deserves credit for that, I think that that is just wonderful. What DD has done is not quite as simple as it might look. Regardless of the money he had, he still had some selling to do. i like his aggressiveness and I like what he sees as our needs. I hope that he is not done. Still got some issues to resolve. I like championships but I can tell you I like the hunt maybe even more than the kill. I want us to compete year in and year out. Finishing last 3 out of 4 years sucked and screwed up my summer.
  23. Great post except for that passive-aggresssive stuff at the end. I actually agree with your Dombrowski points. As for your point about me being passive-aggressive - could be a little I guess. On the internet, on a forum board, I might hint around at my true feelings as opposed to actually expressing myself the way I would if I was looking at a person in the face. My guess is that it is not all that unusual. Hey - It is all good right?
  24. What is a little confusing to me is that we lost Margot and Guerra and all of a sudden 3 of our top 6 prospects are starting pitchers. Public relations ploy or what? Either the trading of 2 guys that could become decent players absolutely decimated our farm system or these 3 pitchers might be pretty good. If our farm is solid, something good should come from at least one of them.
  25. yes - In a way I guess there is a point. In my opinion, you can't look at any person's job in an isolated manner like this. I could sign a political pardon but I don't think that I could be President. Just the whole concept of looking at a person and the job they do in a very singular way I guess. Once again, I won't be criticizing the overall job that Ben Cherington did. I could not have done his job even if it meant just throwing $ around. I don't really like to spend my own. I'm not speaking for anyone else here but I am happy with the direction we are heading in now.
