  1. I just hope that they are not overly committed to him. I understand the concept of giving him a chance but if he fails I worry about Farrell hanging on too long. I hope that DD is willing ready and able to step in and help him out.
  2. 6'2" and 234 is still a very big man. Now Sandoval's last year listing of 5'11" and 255 is something else altogether.
  3. I hope that it is an easy transition for him. it is a very important position for us. His role can't be taken lightly.
  4. Good news for Vasquez - Looks like he will be ready for the spring.
  5. Just saying here that Sam Travis = hitting machine. Not a lot of power but the kid can hit.
  6. Interesting! Loyalty is a value that cannot be under estimated but in Farrell's case, realty should kick in at some point.
  7. I kind of agree with you here but probably because I am a Mainer, I think that Butterfield does a great job working with those infielders. As a third base coach, everyone has their own opinion but as a worker who gets it when it comes to infield play, he is really good I think.
  8. hey, also, even though it is slightly off topic, how about Orsillo still not knowing why NESN tossed him.
  9. As much as I would kind of like to see that, I hope that we don't have to. With Farrell, I just really hope that if things don't go well early, he doesn't just try stay with the same old tired ********. I hope that he can figure out who his best players are and realize when it is time to give up on certain experiments if the need arises.
  10. I don't disagree with that at all. Well - maybe just a little. 103 would give me the quivers. I see them at worst an 81 win team. At best - who knows. If everything works out well, they could be very good. If things don't go well early, and DD tells Farrell to make the necessary adjustments without letting him wait until July to do it, I think that we could still be very good.
  11. I hope that Wright gets a chance to play the role of a starter this year. it would be nice to see what he actually could do over a longer period of time than we have seen so far. With the way things have gone for Buchholz and Kelly, he could very well get that chance. That being said, I really don't want to see a knuckleballer coming out of the pen any more than most everybody else. Once again though, every team needs someone who can come in in long relief and at least mop up in the games that don't go the way you want them to. In a significant situation, I would hate to see him used in relief.
  12. That's what I am talking about right there. That is projection protection at its best. I think that this team could wind up being a .500 team but I don't think that they will have to work hard to get there. I really think that anything less than 85 wins will be disappointing.
  13. I understand where you are coming from now. I actually feel about the same way that you do about him. I hope that it works out. In terms of importance to this years team, who he is and how he plays is going to be very significant.
  14. I am very excited about this season. Lot more to feel good about going in than last year. Some things still have to work themselves out but overall I think that it looks as though we should compete. I hope that Ramirez gets it done but what concerns me more is if he can't, how long will it take for them to do what needs to be done. I also expect that Brian Johnson will be in our rotation if healthy at some point. Not simply as a spot starter.
  15. If one is clearly better than the other, it would be absolutely foolish to not move the better pitcher up. The world does not work well any other way. In choosing the best pitcher, I assumed that you would realize that it would not be a head scratcher in making that determination. One stands out and is clearly better, he should move up regardless.
  16. I'm glad that we aren't getting those accusations. What do you suppose the deal has been wherever Hanley has been? You think that everything has just been made up? Everybody just out to get Hanley? I'm ok with you tooting the flute of optimism here believe me but Hanley's play this year has a great bering methinks on the 92 win season. I'm not particularly comfortable with that.
  17. That fat bastard needs a dose of Jethro's factorin. give me a few of them double oughts.
  18. Good to see Moncada, Vasquez, and Barnes already south getting ready for the spring.
  19. I wonder if that could really mean that he has lost 10 pounds which would put him within the 10 pound margin of error?
  20. My factorin might not be that good, but they way I got it figured there is a 20 game margin of error there. Fairly safe bet!
  21. I hear you here and I think that we all should stay optimistic. Realistic perhaps just a maybe but optimistic yes. Wherever he has been rumors about his attitude and work ethic have come out. My opinion is that we would be better off without him. I hope that he can prove all of his detractors wrong. It is pretty much up to him I think.
  22. they might choose to use the best pitcher regardless of the options. My bet once again going forward is Johnson. My bias(and I am not being a wiseass here) says that he would be as good an option as Kelly and that he is ahead of both Wright and Owens. He very well might become that middle of the rotation guy that we need. Wait - we already have one of those in Porcello. All kidding aside, I see Buccholz and Kelly much as I do Sandoval and Ramirez. Potential, Potential, etc. etc. the back up plans might wind up being the best plans that we have after all.
  23. I think that Wright will definitely figure into the season plan. I also think that a healthy Brian Johnson becomes a full time starting as in the rotation pitcher for the Sox if not someone else this year.
  24. All of the projections are great to see. I enjoy them. A little too much like the stock market for me to place much real faith in any specific projections. It is usually the people who claim to have all of the data compiled just the right way that I tend to shy away from. We all probably want to believe that the Red sox are one of the top 2 teams potentially in all of baseball. Sounds great but once again the games have to be played before I am going to get to excited. I think that we wil be better for sure but a 90 + win season will depend on just about everything going right for us. Starting pitching - Hanley Ramirez- third base - catching - outfield hitting - will Pedroia stay healthy? If things don't go well early, I really will be curious to see how long it will take for them to make the necessary adjustments. If they don't wait long, maybe even eat some contract $, I think that they yard a better team out onto the field later in the season than they do in the spring.
  25. And the good thing about it is that we get to believe what we want to believe. I have not heard anything at all about Sandoval being a bad teammate. A fat slob in decline yes but not a bad teammate. As for Hanley, everywhere he has been there have been "rumors". Once again, I will say that this is a huge year for Hanley Ramirez. Obviously there is a lot of negative sentiment out there about him still being in Boston. He is talented enough for sure. If he views this year as an opportunity as opposed to a negative situation that he has gotten himself into, things could go well. The Red Sox will be fine whether he is there or not. Sadly I think there is as much potential for him to hurt us this year as there is for him to help us.
