  1. I agree with you. That is why I said that I would be satisfied if they just stuck a poster of Sparky up in the dugout and called it good. I'm being a little facetious here i know but I do think that managing will be a big part of this year's picture. i hope that John Farrell is up to the task.
  2. i remember seeing "Doggie" Perez caught on camera in the Sox dugout back in the day. Leyland would do a better job of hiding it.
  3. hadn't heard about Castillo tweaking his swing.
  4. You're right - the rotation still needs improving and Hanley still looks like a linebacker.
  5. Based upon the contents of most of our threads - I think not. talking about Pablo's eating habits and fat ass pales in comparison to who in the f*** really calls the shots upstairs.
  6. If the players only knew! Life would be much simpler.
  7. Leyland still works for me. i'm ok with him having a butt in the dugout as well. I would even hang up a picture of Sparky as well.
  8. doesn't sound very good for the stat gurus of the world.
  9. You make your own luck most of the time. Signing Price is a step toward taking luck out of the equation as is the bullpen reshaping. Depending on players such as the likes of Buchholz, kelly, Sandoval, and Ramirez, not even to mention a few others does call for some possible divine intervention.
  10. It's all good. We all get the same stuff to read as near as I can tell. We all get to have our opinions. It's a good read. C'mon - gives me something to read. I'm just surprised that a guy like DD would want to come to Boston. Whoops - forgot he got fired and actively sought major league employment in another city. Lucky for him and oh yeah - lucky for us I think.
  11. I just hope that they are not overly committed to him. I understand the concept of giving him a chance but if he fails I worry about Farrell hanging on too long. I hope that DD is willing ready and able to step in and help him out.
  12. 6'2" and 234 is still a very big man. Now Sandoval's last year listing of 5'11" and 255 is something else altogether.
  13. I hope that it is an easy transition for him. it is a very important position for us. His role can't be taken lightly.
  14. Good news for Vasquez - Looks like he will be ready for the spring.
  15. Just saying here that Sam Travis = hitting machine. Not a lot of power but the kid can hit.
  16. Interesting! Loyalty is a value that cannot be under estimated but in Farrell's case, realty should kick in at some point.
  17. I kind of agree with you here but probably because I am a Mainer, I think that Butterfield does a great job working with those infielders. As a third base coach, everyone has their own opinion but as a worker who gets it when it comes to infield play, he is really good I think.
  18. hey, also, even though it is slightly off topic, how about Orsillo still not knowing why NESN tossed him.
  19. As much as I would kind of like to see that, I hope that we don't have to. With Farrell, I just really hope that if things don't go well early, he doesn't just try stay with the same old tired ********. I hope that he can figure out who his best players are and realize when it is time to give up on certain experiments if the need arises.
  20. I don't disagree with that at all. Well - maybe just a little. 103 would give me the quivers. I see them at worst an 81 win team. At best - who knows. If everything works out well, they could be very good. If things don't go well early, and DD tells Farrell to make the necessary adjustments without letting him wait until July to do it, I think that we could still be very good.
  21. I hope that Wright gets a chance to play the role of a starter this year. it would be nice to see what he actually could do over a longer period of time than we have seen so far. With the way things have gone for Buchholz and Kelly, he could very well get that chance. That being said, I really don't want to see a knuckleballer coming out of the pen any more than most everybody else. Once again though, every team needs someone who can come in in long relief and at least mop up in the games that don't go the way you want them to. In a significant situation, I would hate to see him used in relief.
  22. That's what I am talking about right there. That is projection protection at its best. I think that this team could wind up being a .500 team but I don't think that they will have to work hard to get there. I really think that anything less than 85 wins will be disappointing.
  23. I understand where you are coming from now. I actually feel about the same way that you do about him. I hope that it works out. In terms of importance to this years team, who he is and how he plays is going to be very significant.
  24. I am very excited about this season. Lot more to feel good about going in than last year. Some things still have to work themselves out but overall I think that it looks as though we should compete. I hope that Ramirez gets it done but what concerns me more is if he can't, how long will it take for them to do what needs to be done. I also expect that Brian Johnson will be in our rotation if healthy at some point. Not simply as a spot starter.
  25. If one is clearly better than the other, it would be absolutely foolish to not move the better pitcher up. The world does not work well any other way. In choosing the best pitcher, I assumed that you would realize that it would not be a head scratcher in making that determination. One stands out and is clearly better, he should move up regardless.
