  1. Money has not been an issue for this team's ownership and won't be going forward. We needed a third baseman. Had to overpay to get him which is what we did. we had no idea he would turn into a turd baseman. Even the Porcello deal was a gross overpay. Now if you wait just a couple more years when every back of the rotation guy is grossly overpaid, even his contract will look sensible.
  2. It's all about they guys - usually us older ones - we just can't get it figured out. Just kidding. The torment and torture has been equally shared regardless of age or sex. Is what it is. We are just stubborn folk trying to fight through a New England winter.
  3. hat brim to straight
  4. Some might seem to give him a bad rap but not many. I think that the majority of people posting here are just confused and concerned that these "rumors" have chased him around from team to team. You think everyone is just out to get him? Many of the most negative comments seem to me to be directed toward the obvious fact that he had a really bad year last year. If he cannot play a decent first base, could be a rough time for just a little while. No real doubt in my mind that DD will allow any potential problems to fester. For his future as well as ours, I hope that he can get the job done.
  5. I'm ready for some real baseball and I don't care who our President of gm might be. Time for some real baseball and real baseball talk!
  6. That's right - you will be there. Everything says that he is the real deal - a pure hitting machine. He sounds like the kind of kid that no one has ever expected too much from but when they see him play, they just know that he is a player. Not real big- not a lot of power - not a lot of speed - pretty good first baseman and a great contact hitter. I bet that he turns out to be the type of player you will really enjoy watching. He has always had to work for his recognition but he has always produced.
  7. Don't think so. Not yet. Sam Travis will be there. I don't think any of the top 5 prospects (latest list) will be there. If they are as good as advertised, it won't be long for them though.
  8. it is just so impressive for me to read the actual scouting reports about Moncada, Benintedi, and Devers written by people who actually do the scouting and have seen these kids play. One thing that they all have in common is that they can hit. Lots of pop as well. Moncada has some obvious fielding issues that he will have to work out but I would hate to be the one trying to determine which of these two (Benintendi and Mocacada) is the better athlete. All honesty I am as excited to see these two play as I am most of the guys on the Red Sox roster.
  9. Been doing a little research lately and Benintendi looks like close to a sure thing. The awards that he has recieved in addition to the numbers that he has put up tell quite a story. He could be very close to race ready. I see him moving very quickly through our system. There has also been some chatter about taking a look at Moncada at third base. Outfielder, second baseman, third baseman, I hope that they settle on one for him and give him a chance to master it. A star in the very near future. It is conceiveable that Devers gets moved as well. A potential first baseman or dh. I am anxious to see our top young talents play at whatever level they start this season in.
  10. I'm not happy that someone thinks we are a second place team although I think an 87 win projection isn't too bad. In all honesty, I really don't care at all what the professional projecting say. Just something for me to read and stay semi- involved before things get going. Statistics have meaning for me when the games begin. My interest in them extends to seeing how the players play. Using them to try to determine before the games are played who will win and who should be playing where is for someone else. Clearly their value can and has created great conversation topics. Interesting for sure but ...
  11. They don't need a knee jerk reaction to anything right now. DD is too good to get taken by an idiot offer. The addition of Price and the upgraded bullpen alone (with what they have currently) makes them a better team than last year's version. That makes for a pretty competitive team even for the most faint hearted of fans. You don't win a world series in April and May. They have some issues that may or may not call for some changes. If they need to make them, I am going to bet that they do.
  12. We have some uncertain situations for sure. Much like last year. Adding Price and a better bullpen makes us look a little better going forward. I think projecting them to be the second best team in all of baseball might be a little premature. they should be better than last year. This is assuming that if we get off to a bad start, changes are made el pronto.
  13. Nope - when Yaz made that catch he kept the no no alive. it was after his catch when the hit came. we all thought rohr was going to get the no hitter - no such luck. what a season!
  14. It was still a no hitter when Yaz made one of baseball's great catches.
  15. hey - Just read that article about the change Castillo has made with respect to his swing. Sounds good. I am more impressed that he has worked hard on his fitness level to protect against his ware out factor during the second half of the season. Also - If Vasquez is as he says he will be 100% going into the spring, he won't need any minor league time to show what he can do or how healthy he is. He has lost 25 pounds - he is physically fit and if he participates all spring having him start in Pawtucket if he is still the catcher that he was will be a waste of time. All it will do is temporarily solve a position player issue. It is typical of what we tend to do. If the decision is to keep Swihart, they will have the spring to get him playing a different position. Before I get hit on this one, I am well aware of what conventional wisdom says - Give him time to regain what he needs to regain. No sense to rush him - blah blah blah. He may not be 100%. If that is the case of course, he will need time to fully heal. but, if he is 100%, sending him down only delays the inevitable. His ability behind the plate could make a very big difference for us going forward. I don't want them wasting his bullets.
  16. I agree with you. That is why I said that I would be satisfied if they just stuck a poster of Sparky up in the dugout and called it good. I'm being a little facetious here i know but I do think that managing will be a big part of this year's picture. i hope that John Farrell is up to the task.
  17. i remember seeing "Doggie" Perez caught on camera in the Sox dugout back in the day. Leyland would do a better job of hiding it.
  18. hadn't heard about Castillo tweaking his swing.
  19. You're right - the rotation still needs improving and Hanley still looks like a linebacker.
  20. Based upon the contents of most of our threads - I think not. talking about Pablo's eating habits and fat ass pales in comparison to who in the f*** really calls the shots upstairs.
  21. If the players only knew! Life would be much simpler.
  22. Leyland still works for me. i'm ok with him having a butt in the dugout as well. I would even hang up a picture of Sparky as well.
  23. doesn't sound very good for the stat gurus of the world.
  24. You make your own luck most of the time. Signing Price is a step toward taking luck out of the equation as is the bullpen reshaping. Depending on players such as the likes of Buchholz, kelly, Sandoval, and Ramirez, not even to mention a few others does call for some possible divine intervention.
  25. It's all good. We all get the same stuff to read as near as I can tell. We all get to have our opinions. It's a good read. C'mon - gives me something to read. I'm just surprised that a guy like DD would want to come to Boston. Whoops - forgot he got fired and actively sought major league employment in another city. Lucky for him and oh yeah - lucky for us I think.
