  1. Oh Kimmi - I would take Dan Marino over my boy Eli Manning (non hall of famer regardless of the Super Bowl wins ) any day.
  2. Not only has he been a GM for decades - he has been a very successful one. I'm not 100% sure I like the fact that we lost Kopech and Moncada but the return ain't bad. DD has been there done it and all that other stuff. He knows more certainly about his job than I do. Although he might suffer constant attack from those on here who know more than he does about building and sustaining winning programs -lol-, I like his time frame for success very much. Just guessing that his boss must approve as well.
  3. Seriously now - the problem that wasn't that so many people thought was now is. Third base - Holt and Hernandez are not third basemen. They very well might get it down for a game or two at a time but they aren't solutions for a season in any way at third base. We better keep banging the Sandoval drum and hope for the best. Lets go Devers! I think taking Ortiz out of this lineup will hurt the offense more than we know.
  4. What did I miss? Who is going to war? What about all that other stuff with the letters we added? obip pis wol bhip don't forget the whoop ass in a can either. plus don't forget all those other abbreviations that mean so much to true talent evaluators.
  5. I should have said that it does impact our future - we have a real chance of being the best team on the field for a few years - works for me.
  6. I'm still kind of digesting the trade but I sure as hell don't see it as making a huge impact on the future of this franchise. Of course the word future has a different meaning for different people. My future extends about 1-5 years. So much can change in that time period. DD has a history of success that I like. I' will miss not seeing the prospects traded developing up close but I like the fact that that we are legit for the immediate future.
  7. their adamant reluctance to trade Devers says a couple of things to me. 1. too much to give up 2. They like Devers for third base in the future - takes care of future need oh ya - once again - Holt and Hernandez are not third basemen. they might fill a hole for a few games but that is about it.
  8. Hey - Where have you been? Good to have you back. DD has a rumpled look to him. Maybe that is why I like hm.
  9. Money really isn't much good if you don't use it. Whatever floats your boat I guess but that is a fact. Many of the most wealthy people on the planet had the nuts to go out on many limbs taking many chances. John Henry is a very fortunate businessman for sure to have so many people worrying for him with respect to how much money he has and how much he can spend. Most of us have to face the tax man for sure. I honestly believe that we have people here on talksox who are more concerned with our beloved Red Sox payroll than our owner is.
  10. Played golf today with a guy from Toronto who is so disgusted that he wanted to trade Happ for farrell with one little catch. We had to take gibbons. Things could be worse I guess.
  11. She's there - she's always there
  12. You might be one of the two people here who get get where I come from. 1. DD might be the best Gm in baseball - not something new 2. Cherington was in over his head 3. God bless Theo and ty but too many splashy moves for me that people wanted to blame on Lucchino because Theo looks better in a suit. 4. DD has done it before - pretty good pitching staff up there in Detroit - I'm just guessing of course but I think he has won most of his trades. He f***ing well knows what he is doing.
  13. iw would not surprise me all either. The guy is an old horse trader. He is at the top of the food chain clearly when it comes to GMs. We are lucky to have him. We gave up a lot of young talent in this deal that could become very good. Like the moves or not - They make sense. They all have so far. I will miss Moncada simply because I wanted to see how he develops. As Spud said he could be a dud - so could any prospect. There are no guarantees. I like a GM who makes moves that I can understand regardless of whether or not I personally think that they are great moves.
  14. I wouldn't waste the money on a move that does not provide a for sure upgrade over anything that we have already. And I don't mind waiting a little money. Don't make a move just to make a move. Not going big? In this case, just go home.
  15. I think the fact that Moncada could conceivably become our version of Trout might make trading him for anyone seem like a bad move.
  16. Keeping Moncada might even become the best thing.
  17. I'm guessing that I know what deals you are referring to. You know how I feel about those deals. None of those prospects come even close to having the skill set that Moncada has. And no, once again, i do not think that DD has done anything to date that should make anyone think that he is not concerned about the future of this team. Now, all that being said, Moncada may not make it and the prospects that we have traded may. That is the way it goes. If he reaches his potential, he is unreplaceable. The others I think could be.
  18. I might see this from a different perspective if I felt that we could not compete without a Chris Sale. We can. I think we owe it to ourselves to wait and see what we have here in this kid. I'll admit that I might seem biased but this one intrigues me. Now, he may not become what the professionals say he might but if he does then he might become one of the best we have ever seen in Boston.
  19. I'm ok with everyone who feels this way. I would not trade Moncada for Sale.
  20. We agree, I hope to disagree, I would trade Moncada for no one. We are not desperate. You want to trade Devers, maybe JBJ, I get that but not someone with the potential that this kid has. Once again, we are not desperate.
  21. Did you just make this statement seriously. We have someone who actually looks like they might know what in the hell they are doing and you say something like this.
  22. I might just tend to agree with you if we had some idea what we have here in Moncada. I just don't agree with anyone who thinks that his performance to date is even remotely relevant to what he could be. We just don't know! I hate using all of these little catch phrase ******** expressions like high ceiling and low floor. Really! - but in Moncada's case, he may be a generational talent. We just don't know. I would keep him regardless of what anyone would offer. His ceiling might eventually be Trout like and I want him in Red Sox uni if it is.
  23. So are you suggesting that we move Moncada (again) without really knowing what we have? He is going to have to prove every scout that has ever seen him play wrong before I buy into this.
  24. Or, as Kimmi said, it very possibly might mean that DD has another plan.
  25. 3 out of those 4 candidates we have seen at least enough to have some idea, some basic data that shows how they might play. In a good case scenario, Sandoval comes back in great shape(not very likely) and Shaw looks to be a little more like he did in the early season last year as opposed to how he looked in the second half. Holt, in my mind anyway continues to be an outstanding backup role player for us. It really isn't a gloom and doom weak situation. Now, the last guy, Moncada, no one knows. I've seen him - some of you have to - last year I said that I cannot remember a player in a Red Sox uniform that really resembles him. I am a NY giants football fan and if this kid doesn't work out for us I think the Giants could find a place for him. He didn't look good in the fall - big deal. Unless everybody that has ever scouted him and seen him play is wrong (which they might be I guess) he has the "potential" to be an elite all around MVP quality player for whoever he plays for. I hope we hang on to him! He has the ability to certainly play a decent third base. He has a gun for an arm and he certainly isn't slow. I'm not comparing him to anyone here either. He isn't Benitendi - 2 very different types of skill sets - nor is he Castillo. He may make it and if he does I hope that he does so for us.
