Obviously no one could have the foresight into how that contract would have worked out, but if that never happened, we'd have Rizzo instead of Napoli at 1st.

I'd have to somewhat agree with him about Gomes though. That contract was kinda stupid.

The FA signings could have been much worse. I for one would actually rather Vic for the money we got him at than Hamilton. We have enough K monsters in this lineup already. Not to mention Swisher.. Glad they passed on him.

Workman in the pen I think would be a great idea. He may be outpitching himself right now, he's projected as a back of the rotation starter, at this moment he is better than what Dempster has given us, but how long can that keep up?

If Cherington someone manages to take Lee and Young off the Phillies without giving up a huge amount of prospects, if that somehow happens... I'm pretty sure he'd be easily my favorite GM of all time. I know part of that is deadline anxiety, but you have to admit, BC is displaying quite the shrewd skillz so far.

The only way to determine if CWS won the trade is to see what they do with the salary in the offseason.

My guess is the Phillies would still want Bogaerts, I don't think UN?s proposed deal would get it done. I would love for that to happen, yes. I still don't think it would happen though

I can't help but think if Theo were still here we'd have Cliff Lee, but we'd also have no prospects.

Honestly I couldn't be happier with this move. I figured Cherington would pull some sly s***, but this is beyond what I expected to happen.

Exactly, of course we'll have to see how the rest of the trade rounds out, but this is looking like a pretty solid move so far.

Peavy will have a much lower ERA with a better defense. Defense doesn't do as much for Dempster because he is letting plenty of balls go over the fence. Peavy allows way less baserunners hence the lower WHIP. They are only similar by ERA, which is the worst stat to measure a pitcher besides W/L. Josh Beckett had an ERA in the low 2's during a part of 2011, no one was calling him Josh Kershaw.
