  1. Basically the point I'm trying to make. No one is really saying with 100% certainty that Bard is going to be an effective starter. Given his track record as a starter he may not. The fact remains that he is a different pitcher now, and he could really surprise everyone.
  2. I just don't see either one of those happening.
  3. Who knows, maybe he will get a major league deal from some team to start. Plenty of teams do need a rotation spot filled. I can't really see him getting the same kind of deal he got from the Sox to start with however.
  4. I've heard it was basically Bard's idea to try and compete for a spot in the rotation. I know he didn't really want to keep setting up, and no one really believed he was ready to be the closer. We don't need a shortstop THAT bad, we have Aviles/Punto, but MLBTR has said the Sox are still looking for an everyday shortstop, so I wouldn't be surprised to see someone like Ryan Theriot get signed, or some other type of middle infielder that will be cheap and capable of starting. Again, I don't believe we need one, I think our focus should stick to pitching. As for your "RH bench player with pop" That's basically what we have Aviles for.
  5. Yeah, it's hard to have a contract year when you're out for nearly all of it. I guess we'll see him in late august/early september or so.
  6. I still believe he'd be an effective reliever, maybe even a decent swingman.. That remains to be seen however. I can see him getting a deal with another team for a BP spot maybe.
  7. No telling what moves are coming. We may even pick up Ryan Theriot or someone like that. He said he'd rather stay in the NL, unless he gets a starting job.
  8. I still think they will sign a starting pitcher, most signs point to Oswalt. MLBTR has said they are still pursuing starting pitching even after acquiring Ross.
  9. I still see it happening. I'm not worried about all of these other team's signings for the most part. Yeah these teams are looking a lot better in some regards, some of them are looking about the same to me still. The reality is we'll just have to wait and see, but I would never count the Red Sox out.
  10. That doesn't explain why they are "looking for an everyday SS" now though
  11. He did have some good posts, then kept posting those weird pictures of the asian girl missing half her face.
  12. I doubt fielder is going to be strictly DH. Chances are he'll play first full time, or he'll split time at first and DH.
  13. True. Which would hopefully happen if they did option him.
  14. There is a major downside to exercising the Lackey option though: More Lackey.
  15. I've always thought Dice-K would be a much better relief pitcher than a starter. I think they should give him a chance to prove what he can do out of the bullpen, providing he is back in time to see enough action, and that he isn't somehow needed in the rotation upon his return.
  16. While it may be Cody Ross, it's not Darnell McDonald. That's why everyone is reacting with a positive attitude.
  17. My guess: pout.
  18. This made my day. I'm starting to like Cherington a bit now.
  19. I'm surprised Cherington didn't sign this guy for depth.
  20. One can only hope
  21. I agree, just posted that for entertainment value really. Who was it that was calling them "Experts" again?
  22. bleacher report is calling the Scutaro trade "a huge mistake" http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1033711-mlb-trade-rumors-boston-makes-huge-mistake-trading-marco-scutaro
