  1. So the Yankees got Kuroda AND Pineda.. I think I'm going to be sick.. However I did say I thought the Sox were waiting the Yankees out to see who they sign, I wouldn't be surprised to see them make a move on Oswalt now.
  2. I for one like the idea of Gomes platooning in right. Much better than the McDonald option. As long as they don't have McDonald pitch another game though, I'll be happy.
  3. They just can't give Tek the boot. I wouldn't be surprised to see Wakefield on a minors contract with a spring training invite as well.
  4. What if the rotation somehow manages to stay intact, or maybe some of the depth guys step up and perform well in the role. When Dice K comes back, possibly he could pitch out of the bullpen? IMO I think he would be a better bullpen piece than a starter anyhow.
  5. His attitude is appalling to say the least, I wish he could be more of a standup guy like Lester. That and the fact that his pitching does drop off towards the end of every season, or you have seasons like 2010 where he is astoundingly inconsistent. I wish he could pitch like he did in April and May of this past season and just shut the f*** up otherwise. Then everyone would be happy..
  6. I like Harden, especially for depth. Then again, if you want to say a perfect world, we could have gotten Gio for Lars Anderson.
  7. Agreed. I also believe that Fielder doesn't want to DH anyhow
  8. I don't believe depth signings are all we're going to see for the remainder of the offseason, I think they are trying to brew something up with Oswalt or Kuroda. Jackson in my opinion is far too expensive for what the Sox are looking for currently. I think they could get Oswalt on a reasonable one year deal, or possibly Kuroda on the same type of deal. After that, I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple more bullpen signings as well as the dumpster diver depth guys will be competing for the roles of who-gets-called-up-first-in-case-of-injury. Basically I think they are trying to wait out the Yankees, see which one of the two the Yanks sign first, then grab the other one.
  9. As far as I can tell they haven't offered him a contract. They declined the club option on him, and then offered him arbitration, which he declined.
  10. Agreed, but I think their division isn't quite as tough as the ALE. Then again the pressure will be on him to perform, given that he is coming off of a contract year, and the fans in Philly will expect a lot more out of him for the contract that he has received.
  11. What I don't understand is why the Sox would decline their option on him, and then offer him arbitration.. I don't know if he has any other offers, but I would really like to see him with the Sox again this season.
  12. I believe it was in reference to Friedman's drafting ability as opposed to Epstein's over the last few years.
  13. That's pretty much my point, if they are showing up to ST ready to compete for a starters role, and then they are up against guys like Cook, Silva, Padilla, Germano, Haegar, etc. Who do you think would win a spot in the rotation? I believe that one of them should be conserved for the bullpen, not both of them competiting for a starters role. Hopefully one of them will show promise and the other will be placed back in the pen. At this point I'd much rather see Bard assume the starter's role and Aceves keep his role as swingman, but you never know what could happen.
  14. Who's going to beat them in the competition during spring training?
  15. In my opinion, with signings like this, Cook, and Silva, you'd think the Sox would have went ahead and signed someone like Maholm, Saunders, or even Zumaya.
  16. Even Jim Thome could play better in the field than Ortiz, granted he can't hit quite the same, but still you don't see people lining up to give him 12 mil either.
  17. I would imagine that Pap's ERA is going to decrease some in Philly. That and with Philly's starting rotation, he won't be under the same kind of pressure he was with Boston. If he stays healthy, I can see him getting a dramatic increase in solid numbers.
  18. What happens if the Sox do sign Oswalt, then we'll have a duplicate thread, half of the people on the forum will be reading this thread instead of the one with news of the legitimate signing.
  19. All of that remains to be seen. I do agree however that he might get unloaded on by the fans until the season gets settled in, especially if he were to pitch like he did this past April and May. However, to have carried the team so far, only to become lazy and let it break down towards the end of the year, to the point that he is giving up runs to the orioles on a regular basis, well that's unacceptable. It stands to reason that even though I said people would forget about the beer and chicken scandal, I wouldn't forget about the attitude and the laziness, and the seemingly willingness to let the O's walk all over him.
  20. I know I posted this already, but it kind of got buried.. Anyhow, more dumpster diving, or perhaps a legitimate depth signing?
  21. I'm interested in a discussion. What do you think the chances are Valverde converts 100% of his regular season save opps again, and why?
