  1. They took off from the point DD canned Girardi.
  2. And you left out the part about him coming out of his last start with a sore knee. For all we know, he's done for the season.
  3. The bottom line is, everything involves a lot of risk. Jansen, Martin and Turner are showing they're in decent health and can still play. And we're talking about 1 year left to run on their deals. These are exactly the guys Bloom wants, I think.
  4. The younger and better players tend to be real expensive.
  5. And on this point we are in agreement. And I will say, I don't think they would even contemplate that.
  6. How stupid of them.
  7. True. Henry says next to nothing. Bloom spins fairy tales about "our top priority this offseason", "gonna be way better next year", "leadership, innings and upside", ad nauseum.
  8. I think the teams that are bringing in the most revenue have an obligation to spend. If the Red Sox cut their payroll in half, what's the first result? More money in the pockets of the owners, obviously.
  9. So Red's Third Fork in the Road again. Yee-haw!
  10. I asked mine first. What exactly is your question about the Padres and Mets? What do you mean by blowing up their market value?
  11. Why not answer my question about the Yankees?
  12. And you're usually a positivist.
  13. You really think there's any chance left of this team being buyers?
  14. "Try to give the impression" - I like that one.
  15. It's not based on it but there's obviously a big correlation between the two. Would the Yankees be the Yankees if their payroll was the same as the Rays? Would their fans accept that?
  16. And it's the duct tape rotation that was really easy to predict, and that Bloom is most accountable for. He let Eovaldi, Wacha and Hill go-not that any of them were spectacular, or durable, last year, but for all that they were our best starters. And he replaced those 3 with Kluber, plus Sale and Paxton, AKA a wing and a prayer.
  17. Sure, all the owner can do is give his team a better chance. Same with the manager. Same with the players, in fact.
  18. There's that, plus the Henry team brought in Epstein and Francona etc. It takes good management too.
  19. We could debate this forever, but when you go 80+ years without winning and then win 4 times in 15 years under the same owner, I think he has to get some credit.
  20. This doesn't make a lot of sense, Denny. If it's all up to the players, that would also mean Bloom has nothing to do with the state of the team right now, it's just that the players aren't playing well.
  21. Amazingly enough, the Red Sox have a lower team ERA than the Dodgers this year.
  22. Have to note that what we got for Vaz hasn't actually produced anything yet. Valdez posted below replacement value numbers in his stint.
  23. We just don't have much to deal this time. I don't think there's any way they trade Jansen or Martin. Paxton might bring something back, but who knows how serious his knee issue is?
