Man, this team has been treading water for a long time now. Even with old Dombro making moves, with Porcello pitching great and E-Rod making a nice comeback. Something gets better but at the same time something gets worse, in an equal and opposite reaction... -

Frankly all the arguments about whether the manager screwed up or not are one of the things that makes baseball so interesting. Nobody can really prove that they're right, because the alternative outcome is unknown.

Sometimes it's just s***** luck though, Slash. If Price had been less efficient last night and his pitch count was 105 after 7 he would have been out of there with a 7 inning shutout. Not all 7 inning 4 ER starts are equal.

Price was only at 89 pitches after 7 innings. That's about 25 pitches away from exit time. And as 700hitter says, our bullpen is not very good. I'm surprised you would think Price shouldn't even have started the inning.

What's really enlightening is all the tweets that follow the initial one. They are hilariously ALL OVER THE f***ING MAP. Some saying Farrell is a bozo and some saying he did nothing wrong.

I'm not sure why there's reason to be scared. Who has been ruined in recent years? The B's are all flourishing, though 2 of them certainly went through rough stretches.

You're kind of obsessed with OBP. For OBP purposes a home run is the same as a walk. There are good reasons that OPS is now commonly used as the measurement of a player's total offensive contributions. Home runs do contribute more than walks. Last night was a pretty good illustration.

OPS matters for a leadoff hitter simply because he is the guy who is going to come to the plate most often during the season. That's part of why the Sabrmetrics research indicates you might want your best all-around hitter up first instead of third.

Now Schilling is a guy that the 'clutch doesn't exist' folks won't even touch. He scares them off.

But it's a fact he's been better in the postseason than in the regular season, taking into account the better pitching you face in the postseason. Obviously he still fails plenty in clutch situations because the pitching and defense always have a huge advantage.

Here we go LOL I believe clutch does exist in a few rare cases like Ortiz and Schilling. But I have my own simple measuring tool - postseason performance vs. regular season performance. I don't believe that part has been *disproven*, I believe it's been *dismissed* because of sample size.

Haha... But seriously, what possible reason could there be for not pinch-hitting with Leon or Shaw. It boggles my mind. And there's no mention of it by any of our wonderful Sox reporters.

Yes, they've been pretty smart the last couple of years and they are turning this trade deadline into a bonanza. Amazing what you can get for an elite reliever these days.
