Agreed. And there are major risk and luck factors. A prime example being the big ticket free agents, like Price. That signing was looking very bad for a while. It looks a lot better now.

We don't really know what Benny Boy would have done. But he certainly contributed to this ring. So did Theo. He acquired Betts and Bogey and others. It's a long process. It's kind of amazing that the Sox have 4 rings with 3 different GM's and 3 managers in a span of 15 years.

Well, it's pretty freakin' hard to complain about the Red Sox record since Henry bought the team. If 4 trophies and 10 playoff appearances doesn't get it done for you, I think you definitely have gratification issues and should see a shrink about it!

It sounds nice in theory, Kimmi, but you also have to figure out what other team would match up and how it would make sense. If you look at the history of trades, teams don't often trade a great player for several good players. If a team trades a great player they're usually getting back a batch of prospects because they're rebuilding. My challenge to you is to come up with a theoretical trade of Mookie that could actually happen and make sense for both teams.

You know the answer. A lot of baseball fans are very limited in their understanding of how the game actually works. They have no patience and they rush to judgment.

Vizquel probably could still field the position quite decently. He was a beast. I suspect his hitting would be a bit of an issue.

The RF bullpen wall is potentially lethal, but Mookie knows how to navigate it by now.

Mays and Henderson are certainly much more apt comparisons to Mookie than Pedroia.

He could bring a hefty return alright. But how are you going to get back more value than you're giving up?

It is a big difference. In the example I gave, though, the AAV is $30 million vs. $35 million, so it's better for tax purposes.

Trader Dave don't need no trades this offseason. He just needs Moneybags John to keep the wallet handy.

DD is a notorious trader, but with the Sox the only non-prospect of any note he's traded is Travis Shaw.

Kind of a hefty price to pay in prospects, though, isn't it? How would this compare to the Sox trade for Kimbrel, would you say?

Sometimes we get a little hung up on the years. Dollars and average dollars are pretty important too. Would you rather sign Mookie for 10 years, $300 million or 8 years, $280 million?

Yeah, now that the final money numbers are apparently in, this looks like a weird-bad deal for the Mets. The other options being pointed out certainly seem to be better.
