  1. He's got some rumors happening, at least.
  2. I'm not convinced it makes sense to reset/punt in a year when you've got so many high-priced, high-caliber players on your roster-Betts, JDM, Bradley, Sale, Price, Eovaldi. That's arguably a waste of money and opportunity. We'll see!
  3. It's true, though, that Johnson and Velazquez outpitched the Yankees' more highly touted depth options in 2018.
  4. Price's contract was very close to market value. I would like to see some evidence that it wasn't.
  5. That's true. But all we can go on is the rumors that Leon is the one on the block.
  6. Sure he is.
  7. I think this extension for Sale casts doubt on the whole reset premise. Especially when you consider that JDM might NOT opt out. Do the math for 2020 if he doesn't opt out.
  8. Yes, maybe a 10 year deal, heavily front-loaded, with an opt out.
  9. I'm the same. I hope JD is with us for the full 5 years. Unlike some, I was even happy that Price didn't opt out!
  10. So you're saying you're not going to render your final opinion on the deal until the end of the year 2022. Life's too short for that sort of thinking IMHO.
  11. Prior to signing an extension, Nolan Arenado agreed to a $26 mill salary in his final arb year. He had initially asked for $30 mill and the Rockies offered $24 mill. Based on that data, Mookie appears to be in line for at least $28 million methinks.
  12. As it turns out, we weren't the only ones with some uncertainty about the tax effects. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2019/03/red-sox-extend-chris-sale.html
  13. Brian Bannister is also a key figure in the organization's pitching management.
  14. Only by the troll, of course.
  15. I think the Red Sox will be a contender in 2020, thus Betts will be part of the team. I don't think Henry signed long term deals with Sale and Eovaldi in order to punt in 2020. I think he's of the mindset of being all in every chance you get. That's why he's a great owner.
  16. It definitely does. They had a choice of how to structure the contract.
  17. Maybe teams now have the option of treating it as 2 separate contracts or one?
  18. Now I read that Alex Bregman's new extension does not affect his tax number for 2019. It's treated like 2 separate contracts. I'm as baffled as anyone.
  19. When they waited with Porcello (just as they had in the past with Beckett), it changed the tax calculations. The Sox were kind of notorious for doing this. I think in the new CBA they probably plugged this little loophole so that whether you wait or not the tax effects are the same.
  20. An extension is an extension. Sale now has a 6-year contract.
  21. Link for 'new rules' please!
  22. So why does Trout's AAV for 2019 show as 35.5 mill? He was in the second-last year of a deal that had a 24 mill AAV.
  23. Pablo's 5 mill is not part of tax payroll, it was already included. My guess: Bogaerts and Porcello are gone. They try to retain JDM if he opts out. Tax re-set is a non-issue.
  24. My guess is it's the other way around - it doesn't matter if you wait to announce it, it affects the current year AAV. That would explain why no one is waiting to announce them - there's nothing to gain.
