  1. It doesn't seem to be working quite as well in 2019.
  2. That was before fans realized the home runs were pharmaceutically enhanced.
  3. On May 12, 20 days ago, they closed to within 3 games of first place. The bad start was virtually erased. Saying that Cora gave a message to the team not to work hard is absolute nonsense, of course.
  4. Here's the only empirical evidence I know of: 2017 Astros - used rest philosophy - won World Series. 2018 Red Sox - used rest philosophy - won World Series. But I do not submit this as PROOF of anything.
  5. Too easy for ya?
  6. But there was some pretty negative fallout from 1998 and McGwire, Sosa and Bonds smashing the home run record in the 'assisted' way they did. I wouldn't have thought MLB would want to head right back there, with juiced baseballs (and some still lingering PED concerns).
  7. However, the team righted the ship in plenty of time. There's no such explanation for the mediocre play of late.
  8. You know perfectly well there's no such empirical evidence. This is not exact science we're dealing with.
  9. Of course. A weak BP will cost you a few games here and there, in random fashion, regardless of opponent.
  10. Sounds like a LaunchBaller.
  11. Personally I didn't think that Restgate was a result of complacency and/or arrogance. I think they looked at all the extra innings pitched by the starters last postseason, and the analytics people probably dug up some data on how that has impacted starters the following season, and they came up with this rest scheme. It appears to have backfired a bit. But I think the intentions were good.
  12. Last year we had a brand new manager and coaching staff. We had a new, more aggressive hitting approach. We had two guys in Mookie and JD playing out of their minds, having career seasons. Everything went right for last year's team. It's a tough act to follow. Not dissimilar to what happened with the 2014 team.
  13. To this point, the one thing I will say in Zimmer's defense is that he had a terrible bench to work with that year.
  14. Nobody repeats in baseball any more though.
  15. This team seems to be psychologically messed up. I do attribute a lot of it to the World Series hangover. The hunger just isn't there. It's not an excuse, it's just the best way I can explain what I'm seeing.
  16. Is baseball turning into a game of LaunchBall? Emphasis on home runs, much more strikeouts? Is this good? Was it as a response to all the shifting? Is this what Rob Manfred wants? It would appear he has nothing against it since we now know as a certified fact that the baseballs they're using fly much further than the ones before.
  17. I'm starting to really dislike the trend of baseball toward a game of LaunchBall. More home runs and much more strikeouts. Which arguably started as a response to all the shifting. At the end of the day about the same number of runs are scored as before, but the nature of the game is different.
  18. I don't think momentum is the correct term for what Jacks is describing. I think it's more like the shift in win probability.
  19. I think advanced stats have been very beneficial in some ways. But I also think there's a legitimate question of whether the game itself has gotten better or worse as a result of some of the advances.
  20. You're doing good work there Max. The other thing you should check out is the 'Leongate' factor. Sale has a 2.68 ERA pitching to Leon, and a 6.39 ERA pitching to Vazquez. It was definitely a mistake keeping Swihart instead of Leon at the start of the season.
  21. Spike Lee must be envious of Drake these days LOL
  22. In the infamous 1986 WS Game 6 poor Schiraldi got a blown save in the 8th inning and the loss in the 10th inning. If he had given up a home run to Ray Knight instead of a single, I think he would have been charged with 2 blown saves and a loss. Bob Stanley got a blown save for his efforts too, of course...
  23. Because you saved a couple of other guys from having to pitch.
  24. Drake is an idiot alright.
