  1. The issues with EE's back may have forced their hand. But certainly impatience and stupidity could be in the mix.
  2. In the words of late Yankee fan Pinstripezac, "Them backs are tricky things."
  3. As far as we know, the offer Mookie turned down was 8 years $200 mill. Manny Machado got 10 years $300 mill. In spite of his current slump, Mookie is clearly better than Machado. End of story, really.
  4. From MLB.com Will Smith got the save, but give credit to Mike Yastrzemski. With Saturday's game on the line in the bottom of the ninth, the Giants left fielder made a tremendous diving catch to secure San Francisco's 8-7 win over the Brewers at Oracle Park. Smith fanned the first two batters of the frame, but Christian Yelich homered to pull the Brewers within one. Ryan Braun followed with a single, bringing the potential go-ahead run to the plate in Yasmani Grandal, who lifted the ball into left-center field, where Yastrzemski came racing in before laying out to put the game away. Mike Yastrzemski diving catch Giants win WWW.MLB.COM SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants closer Will Smith got the save, but give credit to rookie outfielder Mike Yastrzemski. With Saturday's game on the line in the bottom of the ninth, Yastrzemski made a tremendous diving catch in left field to secure the Giants’ 8-7 win over the Brewers at Oracle
  5. I will say this about the Yankees. In all the time I've been following them, since the Seventies, they've never really had a total in-season collapse, even though there have been many times I thought one was about to happen.
  6. So what happened subsequent to those obviously bad signings? 2015 - last 2016 - won division 2017 - won division 2018 - won division and World Series Not exactly powerful evidence for the sustained damaging effects of the bad signings.
  7. He also hit .308 with a .973 OPS in the recent series with the best pitching team in baseball, the Rays.
  8. Was it really THAT long ago he was ALCS MVP against the pretty good pitching staff of the Houston Astros? Time really flies, I guess.
  9. And the Red Sox are indeed the big winners this century.
  10. Chavis is showing some bounceback.
  11. Not as a Warriors fan but as a sports fan, I hope that Durant and Thompson can come back strong from their injuries.
  12. Yankees are 4-8 in June with 77 runs allowed in 12 games.
  13. Baseball-Reference uses infinity for that, as Trevor Rosenthal's 2019 game log will attest. In Rosenthal's first 4 outings this year he faced 9 batters and allowed 7 earned runs without recording an out. So his ERA after 4 appearances was still infinity! (After his 5th appearance his ERA was 72.00.)
  14. What about the 4 championships? It's kind of odd that you don't address that little fact at all. Also, re those last place finishes, I don't think any of them can be specifically attributed to long-term dead money contracts.
  15. I agree about Means but he did not factor in either of the wins. They lost to Texas 2-1 in the game he started.
  16. As bad as the O's are, in their very recent 3 game series with Houston and Texas they were not swept.
  17. I'd like to contest this point, but I don't see how it could be argued one way or the other.
  18. Which is basically what I'm saying.
  19. Congratulations, Kimmi.
  20. Every team in baseball has a process that's hit and miss. That should be kind of obvious. No team has had anything resembling a dynasty this century.
  21. But his slumps are actually all over the place. 2 of his 3 best months are May and June.
  22. Not really. The team has won 4 titles in 15 years and high priced free agents have played major roles in all them. (A lot of dead money has resulted too, no one can deny that.) The team owners have been raking it in in spite of that dead money. Championships + profits + market appreciation. I don't see how you can argue with the results.
