I don't think it's about him being worn down. They're basically shuttling relievers who have options back and forth between Boston and Pawtucket right now to have as many fresh arms as possible.

JBJ's 2019 WAA is -0.3 per B-R. His WAR per B-R is 0.9. But isn't WAA pretty much derived from WAR?

Nah, he's just being shuttled after pitching 3 days in a row. He'll be back shortly when the next guy gets shuttled. Nothing else they can do right now.

What I like about WAR is that it tries to address questions like this one: does JBJ's defense offset his bad offense enough to make him a valuable player?

I don't watch that many games any more so without the stats I'd be pretty lost as to what was going on.

I don't believe that, no. But I do believe it's quite possible his play hasn't been anything special this year. It's like a lot of other stats. You look at the current year but you also look at the career numbers. His career numbers clearly show he's a well-above average CFer. But performances can vary a lot.

I think JBJ is a perfect example of why WAR is a valuable thing. If you only looked at the back of his baseball card, you'd wonder why he's been our everyday CFer so long.

It's no different than popping up and having the fielder drop the ball. A defensive mistake allows the player to reach base.

That's a fair point, but the fact is that our offense is .01 runs per game from being the highest scoring offense in MLB. The offense is fine. The pitching is brutal.

The 2019 offense is now averaging more runs than the 2018 offense. The pitching has been brutal. That's the simple explanation.

For defensive ratings that mean anything you only have two choices - WAR analytical stuff or eyeball stuff. As flawed as WAR stuff may be, the idea that eyeball stuff is better is kind of a joke IMHO

We've also seen plenty of occasions with a runner at third and one out that the sac fly wasn't executed. It's by no means automatic. -
Hector is still cheap and still has options. And he pitched OK last year. But he's certainly not far from being a goner.

When you go on a game thread and predict a player is going to have a good game, and he does, you always get some congrats for it. If he goes 0 for 4, of course, you just look like a regular stooge. But what the hell. I'll predict 2 hits for Beni tonight.
