  1. If you're the Red Sox, you have to take in all the possible scenarios. It's kind of your job to do that...
  2. In spite of having a dream sports name, made up of 'good' and 'win'.
  3. But the destination mattered hugely, as things turned out. Look for a new thread on this topic this evening!
  4. RIP Tom Terrific.
  5. I still hold out hope for Eovaldi...sort of the way I always did with Buchholz...hmmm...
  6. Just ask Mr. Trout.
  7. It's possible that the Sox thought they'd have a shot at Mookie in free agency, of course. But if they thought that was a real possibility, trading him to the team with the best shot at signing Mookie to an extension would also qualify as a huge blunder.
  8. George is a nice guy. And I would have taken him on our team over Ken.
  9. That math is not right about the $500 million. No way the extra cost is that much.
  10. They might not have been able to reset this year. They might have had to wait one more year. It might have cost a few extra million in tax. Or they could have traded JDM, traded Price, not signed JBJ etc. That would have offset Mookie's 27 million. If the tax issue was the prime reason they traded Mookie, it's a horrible one. You have made a persuasive case against giving Mookie $350-400 million. I can accept that as the one valid reason to let him go.
  11. I'm not looking at it in a bubble, honestly. We had a lot of payroll coming off the books by the end of 2022. That's why Mookie's contract would have been doable if they were willing to give him the $400 million.
  12. Was it actually supposed to be Jeter Downs?
  13. That struck me too LOL He was in the Punto trade.
  14. Reportedly it was Matt Holliday.
  15. I think we may still have a shot at some records for highest staff ERA. With an asterisk, of course.
  16. I think yer right on all counts.
  17. Well, there's no hope when it comes to Mookie. He's gone forever.
  18. Yeah, there's always hope until there's none.
  19. And that little thing with Mookie becoming a Dodger for life...
  20. Even if all that was so, the Red Sox were in no way forced to trade Mookie.
  21. That theory just didn't make sense to me. It suggests that they weren't giving Mookie any thought at all when they did them. And then went "Oh, whoops"?
  22. Good grief, Charlie Brown.
  23. I don't think any fans, outside of maybe a miniscule %, root against the team while they're playing. Taking consolation from the future benefits of a bad record, that's a different story.
