  1. I have him in every fantasy league. But hey, remove him from the leadoff spot plz.
  2. I'm saying he wasn't the only complaining about the team's reckless baserunning. I just don't remember what other high-profile guy it was.
  3. The problem is that you're just not accounting for the difference in age and pitching environment. Petco ain't Fenway, and 34 ain't 27, especially on an arm with as much mileage as Shields' This is where stats help: ERA+ normalizes for factors like stadium, Porcello has a 109 ERA+, while Shields has a 90 ERA+ (does not include tonight's outing). In other words, Shields has been 10% worse than league average, while Porcello has been 9% better. There's just no argument.
  4. 87% accuracy means that on every pitch during a game defining situation, there's a 13% chance the umpire will get the call incorrect. Unacceptable if you ask me.
  5. That's the part where doing something stupid but having it work doesn't show up in the stat sheet. Vizquel wasn't the only one whining about that particular team's baserunning IIRC.
  6. What? Even before tonight, he had a worse ERA, WHIP and had given up more homers while pitching in a terrible stadium for hitters. That's a ridiculous argument.
  7. Those are facts. Not reinventing the wheel here.
  8. You're certainly ignoring the age factor here. Again, father time catches up with everyone.
  9. iortiz will never let facts get in the way of a good argument.
  10. So last year's numbers aren't a sharp decline from career norms even while pitching in the weakest stadium for hitting in the Majors? Ted, this is an argument you are simply not going to be able to justify. I mean, Shields still provides IP and he's pretty good, but it's clear he's just not as good at run-prevention as he used to be. He's been giving up a ton more solid contact and home runs since last year, and that happens. Father time affects everyone.
  11. I just don't see it. Seems like picking nits trying to make the staff look better to me.
  12. 2015: 94 ERA+ , 1.33 WHIP, 33 HR's allowed (led the Majors) pitching half his games at Petco. Sorry, don't buy it. He'd have gotten demolished at the AL East.
  13. I thought for sure it'd be Tug Hulett.
  14. Three years ago? Hell yeah. 2016? Hell no. Be realistic.
  15. The hilarious part is that iortiz consistently shits on Porcello but lavishes praise on James Shields, when they are essentially the same pitcher. Shields throws more innings, Porcello is younger, but then they have essentially the same profile. If this was a Shields start, he would have rationalized the outing the other way around.
  16. I actually still like Nava, but he was (is) a terrible baserunner.
  17. What part of "the umpires can still make the calls, but we can help with their real-time visibility of the strike zone" is so difficult to understand? The system can improve to help enforce the rules without changing them. Umpires are part of the rules, personal strike zones are not. The rest of your point about tv is, without trying to offend, nonsense. How is tv threatening to take over the sport, for one? Do you mean technology? And how is technology improving the fairness of the on-field product a bad thing?
  18. I think Young's glovework and baserunning ability are underrated, but that's just me.
  19. UBR does not handle stolen bases, but BSR does account for everything. The UBR/BSR primer explains that there is a point system awarded for both positive and negative baserunning plays. If a team runs the bases as conservative as possible, their rating would be either neutral (average) or negative if you account for mistakes.
  20. You do know the first thing that'll happen is me challenging you to a fistfight? (It'd be too easy with a machete.)
  21. Excellent observation. But my point was assuming a healthy lineup by that point, and the likelihood of him sucking again and people on the site turning on him more than actual team decisions regarding the guy. But Castillo's certainly knee deep in sewer water with the org.
  22. You've been funny lately. Keep it up.
  23. What I mean by "sample normalization" in this instance is that, put another way, the researcher (moonslav in this case) is adding a specific biased condition when doing his analysis that alters the nature of the result. That's even more significant when considering the boundary issue mentioned above, so even while accounting for that fact, there's some noise that would have to be eliminated through the use of linear weights, and just lol no, I'm not going into that. Point is, eliminating the worst five games doesn't actually (in my opinion) prove anything conclusive.
  24. Are you crazy? If it was, then this place would be awesome. I'm talking about machete fights in the middle of the street because one guy suspects another guy is banging a chick who's not even with him, like rly DR? Then again, there might be a market there for entrepreneurial types........
