  1. Now that's a name I could get behind. and while we're at it: Dave Roberts - 3rd Base Coach Schilling - Pitching Coach
  2. Does anyone have any updated information on Westmoreland? I really can't find too much outside of the usual "progress is being made" stories from months ago.
  3. But they would kill that .889 WP!
  4. That's not a "problem" that many teams have ever had, and I find it humorous
  5. Good point, I don't think I would want Greinke on the Sox though. He's a beast on a small market team, but he has issues in the spotlight.
  6. The FA market isn't that great this year. They could sign a few short term deals for 2012 and try to make a big splash in 2013, when their top tier MiLB talent is ready, and Kemp, Ethier, Wright, Cain, Greinke, Hamels, Haren, Marcum all become FAs. I'm not saying give up on 2012, I just don't think they should make any rash decisions and sign mid-level players to exorbitant deals.
  7. Excellent post. That is exactly how I feel about Ortiz and Papelbon both. Also, We do need a closer, but we don't need a Mariano. It would be nice, but let's no spend $15MM a year trying to catch lightning in a bottle. We need to go to a more traditional DH role as well. Those players need breaks from the field, they were absolutely beat come September. Even if we had crawled into the postseason, we would've been beaten in 3 or 4 in the first round.
  8. I've read that Matsuzaka will not be ready until the all-star game. I would not go into 2012 expecting much, if anything, out of him.
  9. You laugh, but there's no reason he can't outperform Wakefield, Lackey, Miller, Wieland, or whoever else the Sox have stashed away. If he is serious about feeling completely rejuvenated, there is no reason he can't pitch at the same level he did when he was 40 (it feels weird saying that). Don't get me wrong, I'd rather see Buehrle and another proven starter come in, but I wouldn't feel bad at all with Moyer going out every 5th day.
  10. That was an amazing game. Have you seen the one-hitter he threw at Yankee Stadium when he struck out like 17 or 18? I think that might have been his most dominant game
  11. How would you guys feel about a 1 year flyer on Jamie Moyer? He's been pitching bullpen sessions for awhile and says his arm feels brand new after TJ last june.
  12. You know, I kinda thought he was talking about Crawford for awhile there.
  13. Cancelled because it *might* fan. That's BS! You cancel games when it rains, not when it might rain. And there's only a 40% chance of showers.
  14. They need to let Papi walk. A full-time DH fatigues the every day position players. They almost need that "day off" every week or 2 to stay healthy. If you think about it, a full time DH gets 3-4 ABs a game, that's maybe 10-15 minutes of work. Ther other 2:30 they are riding the bench, chilling. And he wants $15MM for that?
  15. If CHW doesn't offer at least 3/30, I'm sure 3/33+ from BOS is more than enough to get him here. That is, of course, with no other suitors driving up the price. I'm just not as big on Jackson as I was. I think his signing would be a mistake.
  16. How about we just give him Jim Abbott surgery?
  17. Buehrle is a 3/33-3/39 pitcher, and worth every cent. He is not a #5, and probably not even #4 on the Sox. His track record is much better than Buchholz, and I think if we sign him, he shows up as the #3. He is not on the decline yet, and we can easily 2-3 more peak years from him. It seems like people are thinking he is 38 and just came off a 150 IP 4.75 ERA year.
  18. Pedro was by far my favorite player ever. Like Gringo said, he was an absolute artist out there. 1999 and 2000 were probably the 2 best back-to-back years from anyone, in history. That 0.73 WHIP in 2000 is a record that I think may never be broken. I had the chance to go to Fenway a few times while he was pitching, and that place rocked like it had never rocked before.
  19. Salty definitely isn't built in the Yadier Molina mold. I'd give up the farm for that man.
  20. Possibly, but he is a work in progress behind the plate, which is 1 reason he is being groomed for the DH role.
  21. Buehrle can give 200 IP and an ERA around 3.90-4.00 for at least 2-3 more years. I can't see how he wouldn't be a good target. He hasn't pitched under 200 innings in something like 10 years. I see him more as the #3/4 with Buchholz, there's no "flier" needed on him as he is a proven horse.
  22. He's getting $23MM AAV (thru the end of the deal) and wants more.
  23. I know CC is just a pipe dream and will never happen. I would like to see Oswalt and Buehrle or Jackson come in.
