  1. Play strat o matic it is just as useful in replicating reality. I will take the BBWAA anytime over what I read on baseball boards.
  2. It is only useful during a cold hot stove season when there is absolutely nothing else to post about. All teams have their own proprietary software. So such public sites at best only approximate the algorithms that teams use to compliment the other non quantitative data that GMs consider when making trades. This was the point of an entire program on the MLB network.
  3. My.point is that trades happen for a whole host of reasons many of which are not quantafiable. Clubhouse chemistry and player attitude being two of the more common reasons.
  4. Precisely! Moreover there are non quantitative reasons for teams to either move a player or acquire one.
  5. Unfortunately major league teams do not make trades with a web site but rather each other.
  6. The Red Sox drew 210,000 fewer persons in2013 from 2012. Their average game attendance was 2600 fewer fans per game in 2013 than in 2012. In fact they drew more than 3,000,000 fans in 2012. They have not drawn that many since despite winning in 2013 and 2018. While there are many factors which affect total attendance, I think the data strongly suggests that once a club alienates its fan base it can be exceedingly difficult to win back fans that are lost. I believe this is a legitimate fear that probably affects Henry and Werner's thinking.
  7. Henry's email is damage control. I do not think the idea of selling off players to reset is playing well in Boston.
  8. Equally important are the NESN ratings. In many respects the NESN ratings tend to be more affected by poor on the field performance than the gate.
  9. Dan Shaughnessy's recent email exchange with John Henry puts the whole question of Boston "resetting" in a wholly different light. Basically Henry said that competitiveness is more important than any idea of resetting.
  10. Likewise, when I posted that Devers would one day be considered a hold glover I was ridiculed. If anyone watched Devers play they would have seen that the vast majority.of his errors were from hurried throws resulting from poor foot work and his not yet having adjusted to the speed of the game at the major league level.
  11. Some one who really bears a big grudge against Cora.
  12. "Winning isn't everything, it is the only thing" Vince Lombardi.
  13. The claim or allegation that this type of electronic is widespread first of all is not being reported by anyone. It only serves to diminish the fact that Cora cheated. If true he should be fired regardless whether it was widespread or not. It was against the rules. He knew it. It is ust like Pete Rose. Unless the commissioner puts a stop to this kind of cheating it could destroy the integrity of the game just like gambling would.
  14. Cora is a self righteous hypocrite whose hand got caught in the cookie jar. I hope MLB does more than send him to his room.
  15. Good! If he is guilty he should be at least suspended if not fired. There is no place in baseball for this type of cheating if he did it.
  16. I take reset to mean what happens to a team that gets below the lux tax. Once that happens the penalties reset.
  17. It is gross overstatement to call the red sox a completely barren team that is clearly substandard. They may not be where I would want them to be but you imply they are worse then the Orioles.
  18. It all depends on how they start the year. The question of a so called reset is a process that will continue until the trade deadline.
  19. Dan Duquette was the ancien regime. Besides he did not do a bad job in Baltimore working for the worst owner in baseball.
  20. I think they are more than just rumors. Bloom traded Price when he was with Tampa so he isn't exactly President of the David Price fan club (for that matter who is?) More importantly, however, Bloom's reputation is built on player development. I think that's one of the reasons he was so attractive to John Henry. Trading Price for prospects would allow Bloom to be Bloom. At least that would be my guess.
  21. Yea " they see a player coming off a down year capable of reaching another gear " The other gear Moon is referring to is reverse.
  22. You heard the story of the jackass who starved to death. He was equidistant from two bags of oats and couldn't decide which one to eat from.
  23. Two fair questions. However, in Boston's case a fair answer to both would be we have seen nothing to be able to say yes or no to either.
  24. The other day Peter Gammons wrote that a GM said that Boston wanted prospects for Price. That GM thought that it unlikely that any team would give up the quality prospects Boston is seeking in such a trade.
