  1. I waited 57 years for the Sox to win it all. I don't think I am in a position to wait that long again.
  2. You once again ask the wrong question. The right question is would he recognize a good deal if it were offered? We have no proof one way or another that he would.
  3. To my way of thinking no GM should ever make a deal just to make a deal even if it is a good one. Deals should only be made if the club is better off after the deal than before. The real issue here is none of us knows what Bloom's actual instructions from Henry really are. We all presume that it is to get below the LT. However since making that somewhat oblique remark several months ago other statements coming out folks like Kennedy seem to indicate that getting below the LT may not be the absolute bottom line goal that Bloom is trying to achieve. We may all think it is but none of us really knows for certain. Again for my part, I think there is a lot of misdirection and possible disinformation being spread about Boston's intentions. This may be done to obscure some move that may surprise us all. I suspect that this may be the case to prevent other clubs from disrupting whatever Boston plays to do since unlike other clubs the Sox aren't in a position to merely throw money at the problem, like the Yankees have done with Cole, to achieve their objectives.
  4. It does not prove that he is either. In fact it is proof of nothing.
  5. As I have posted many times before I would be very surprised if the Sox will be willing or able to move Betts before the trade deadline. I think Price and or JBJ are another matter. I suspect that their efforts are concentrated along those lines.
  6. Then let him get on with it while we are still young.
  7. He should do whatever he has to, to keep the Red Sox in contention. Whatever he does or doesn't do, does not mean he deserves to be " cut any slack". He is as Red Barber used to say is in the cat bird seat. If he can not handle it then he should get another job. Whatever I notice he is not the one asking fans to go easy on him.
  8. Why cut him any slack? This the Major Leagues not tee ball. No one gets participation trophies. Either you can cut it or you can't.
  9. If Bloom can pull off a mega deal with the LA Dodgers that nets the Sox players who would keep the Sox in contention and get them below the LT then that would be something worth noting. I would tp my hat to him if he is successful.
  10. "Purge" You make this forum sound like Stalin's Kremlin in the 1930s.
  11. Or he could be just indecisive. He could be overwhelmed with the realization that people actually care about the Red Sox as opposed to the friends family and fans for the opposing team that typically show up for Rays games.
  12. There are always plenty of excuses for doing nothing. Until he proves otherwise Bloom is just one more "wunderkind" wannabe!
  13. The point is Bloom is too busy contemplating his navel to have done anything. So far he hasn't done anything he was purportedly hired to do. The question remains is he paralyzed by analysis or the decision by consensus approach the Red Sox have supposedly implemented? Is time still on his side or not?
  14. Supposedly according to many here he was hired to sell not buy.
  15. How do you know? He hasn"t done anything. Nada, zilch, zip, zero!
  16. Rene Descartes proved the philosophical existence of man by the simple expression Cogito ergo sum which essentially became the foundation of Western Philosophy. Bloom, maybe be just thinking but he isn't doing. So other than existing what else has he demonstrated? Nihil facit!
  17. Your point was in fact pointless. The absence of proof is not proof of absence. Because we do not know is exactly the point. He has not demonstrated anything except being dilatory.
  18. And for all we know may not have.
  19. Never said or implied he has no idea on how to do the job. The question is does he have the will or the authority to make decisions on his own.
  20. One wonders if Boston's dilatory behavior this off season is due to paralysis by analysis. I implicitly criticized Bloom's statements that decisions by consensus would lead to GM by committee. So far the Red Sox front office doesn't appear to be very nimble. Have the Red Sox gone so far from DD's Lone Ranger approach to the other extreme. Well there is plenty of time to make some moves or is there? One wonders.
  21. It seems that Bloom is MIA. Has anyone filed a missing persons report with the Mass State Police or the Boston PD?
  22. I certainly agreed. Red Sox ownership can not afford to field non contenders for 4 or 5 years.
  23. That may have more to do with McCourt's business acumen. Just be thankful that he was unsuccessful in his attempt to buy the Red Sox
  24. It isn't price it is net worth. Inherent in the price paid for the Dodgers was assumption of hundreds of millions in debt. The value is also in the real estate especially the parking lots estimated at hundreds of million of dollars. The economics aren't that simple as the value of the franchise alone. The value of the land makes up a substantial portion of that 2 plus billion dollar figure.
  25. And the team is still saddled with debt.
