  1. BV obviously thinks the trust issue is still there. Beckett 's snitch comment is important in the sense that he hasn't gotten over last September. If he directs his anger outward at the the snitch who is no longer with the club then that's okay. However, if Beckett believes the "snitch" is still with the club this could be an insidious problem which will only fester. Based on the comments the feeling is Beckett is the one stirring the pot. This could get ugly if it isn't handled right. The media is on it so this isn't going away. BTW there is a rumor going around that Scuturo was one the alleged sources for the stories hence his hasty departure. There is concern that the team could break down into factions. The pitchers and the position players, the question is whether Beckett will be part of the solution or the problem. I happen to fall into the camp that Beckett based on his personality is a problem.
  2. Not really imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Besides it is good training to get used to Fenway for those who haven't played there before. BTW Cal Ripken did the same for Camden Yards at his basball complex in Aberdeen Md.
  3. I know some here call me gramps (which is okay since I have 11 grandchildren) but I can remember a time when beer wasn't allowed in the seats at Fenway park. In the 1950s I can remember my father and others standing in the runway or in back drinking their beer. In 1978 the city of Boston eased the restrictions on beer sales at the park and only allowed the purchase of one beer per person to bring to their seats according to an newspaper article I found.
  4. Kevin Kennedy, former Red Sox manager and Rays analyst, gave an interesting reason for banning beer etc. on the last leg or a road trip. It is a liability issue. Even the Rays under Maddon ban alcohol on the last leg of road trips. There have been numerous incidents of players having accidents and DUIs. So this is why it is done. BV had the same policy when he was with the Mets reportedly according to Kennedy after an incident. Given the money at stake with these payrolls, this kind of move appears fiscally prudent if nothing else.
  5. It never was about the beer IMHO. It was the rap (whehter true or not) that Beckett never spoke to a position player. It was about not supporting team mates.
  6. Hey folks most teams ban beer in the clubhouse these days. It is unusual for a team to allow beer.
  7. Getting back to baseball, I for one was very heartened by the news coming out of Florida yesterday. The fact that Ortiz took it upon himself to address the team is good news. Pedroia's interview with Lou Merloni yesterday was also a positve sign. It appears that both have decided to step up and exercise some leadership in the clubhouse and that can only be seen as a good thing. I also like BV's spring training regime. I know its only the first days of spring training but hope is what spring training is all about.
  8. The vast majority of teams including the Yankees ban beer in their clubhouses. This should have been expected and accepted without comment by the players.
  9. I think that's right. They can't appear mto be cutting corners.
  10. I said back in November that the Sox have had a disasterous time in the PR dept. I don't know who their PR advisor is but hey should get a new one. The net effect of this interview is to further erode Ben's credibility. I really don't want to see Ben fail even though I am highly critical of his performance thus far, but Larry and JH aren't making the poor kid's job any easier.
  11. Exactly! My point all along is that it wasn't money that kept Ben from improving the club more than he did. Being as charitable as I can it was his own inexperience and inherent indecisiveness. There were other opportunities but his advocates say he is deliberate. I say he is deliberate to teh point of indecision and the club suffers for it.
  12. I think we'll see Iggy in Boston by the ASB. This depends onhow well he does in Pawtucket early in the year. Very interesting article about BV wanting to change Iggy batting style. If this pays off then we should know by the end of June. Of course if Punto and Aviles are doing well and the club is doing well then the more time Iggy has in AAA all the better.
  13. I sent you a PM
  14. Of course he had a budget but we are assuming it was such and such. There has never been any public statement from ownership that finances inhibited Cherries room for negotiation. Everyone assumes that there was because of the way Cherries has acted or failed to act.
  15. Was there a directive? If there were please show us. According to all the publiic statements from ownership, other than Ben, I can find none. Quite the contrary all their public statements indicated the opposite. Seems like a great deal of conjecture to excuse Ben's failure to significantly improve this team over the competetion.
  16. That post was an inside joke sorry for the confusion. But just to be argumentative none of the above can be fairly called significant upgrades. I'll concede that one is an upgrade though.
  17. You know of course that "Mr Howard" was the alias Jesse James used.
  18. Since Mr Howard posts have nothing to do with baseball I have put him on my ignore list.
