There are 15 teams in the AL. Of those there are three teams at the very bottom this year that are flat awful, Royals, White Sox and Athletics. 3 awful teams instead of the usual 2 awful teams. If you want to call those three teams barely AAAA teams I can buy that. They are AAAA teams at best. They have amassed records that boggle the mind. So 6 teams make the post season thanks to the expanded WC. That leaves actually 6 teams that are simply bad teams.
The "mediocre" teams are the teams that have enough team to make the last WC card spots usually by adding at the trade deadline. Red Sox baseball ops told us how bad they were at the trade deadline. Were we not listening?
