  1. Actually Lester did not give up anything wacky...or historic or colossal. I have no issue with Lester at all. However past Lester there has been a number of real moon shots hit and you just cannot hit the ball that good unless you are right on the pitch. Will everybody hit the ball that hard...of course not. However if hitters can be right on the pitches members of this staff are serving up, then it will be hard to hold down scoring. Some of us have said for a very long time now that this was shaping up as a team that would have to win games 10-8, 12-10. A team that will consider an 8-6 game low scoring. I don't see anything past Lester that suggests otherwise and he can only pitch once every 5 days. It is a team with weak defense. This was another game where they allowed the opponent four outs in two separate innings. Jacko you then go an add one last cherry to the top and contend that it is also not as strong offensively as it has been. So past Lester I really don't see a team that will hold down the competition very often. Yet as you say, it might not be as strong offensively as it has been. That sounds like a tough combination. On the bright side, I think based on what we have seen, the Rays are anything but a shoe in to win the East or even finish ahead of the Sox in the East. They are a weak hitting team and they have no pen, not just a weak pen but no pen. They are already shuffling guys up from Durham in an effort to find somebody that can come into a game without blowing up. Get past their starting pitching and they will have a very hard time winning games. So all I am saying is that this still looks to me like a team that will have to put up close to double digits to win games. Does it look like a team that will put up double digits? We will see.
  2. OK so it is early in the year. Aside from all of our candle lighting aside, all of our fan optimism, one of the things that bothers me about this team and its aspirations for the year is that teams are not just hitting home runs. Granted two of the four teams so far are the Rangers and Tigers, maybe the two best hitting teams in the AL. But a number of these are historic shots. Don just called the Hamilton homer "the longest home run he has ever personally seen to right field in Fenway. No matter how good a hitter is, the only way to get the kind of lumber on the ball that guys are getting is to be right on it.....I mean right on it. That is one of the things that really worries me. It is not the only thing. But you cannot watch these moon shots one after the other and not realize that these are pitches that are fooling nobody, not even a little bit.
  3. In what now feels like a few century's ago but that was only pregame....the NESN guys were talkin' about our 30+ runs in four games against the rays. At this point the Rangers are workin on 54 runs in 3 games....sorta puts it all in perspective....ya' know what I mean?
  4. What the hell are ya' doin' that for? That is the Red Sox Staff energy drink. What the hell is the matter with ya? Ya wanna' pitch like them or somethin'?
  5. Can you imagine some poor kid with his dad seeing his first game tonight "Daddy, how come they let the other guys touch home plate so much. Don, not wanting to be outdone by Remy in the black humor department on the agons home run call"and the Red Sox have a home run of their own"....like its a f***ing new puppy or something!!!
  6. Don't be surprised if you find Beckett in the same bar tomorrow.....hidding
  7. Well I tried to give them to my dog and he just gave me this funny look like wondering if I was asking him to put me out of my misery.
  8. V just looked down the bench...."Hay ya' got any players down there at that end?" "s***...I didn't think so."
  9. Remy sounds so black humor funny...."Red Sox are just trying to get an out". Just handed my significant other all my guns for the night. Not sure I should be trusted with them at least until the next game.
  10. Now does that look like a top level left side or what????? Looks more like a new pinball game over there. Lets go to the arcade and play..... "Red Sox left side".
  11. Hey stop it....what are ya gonna' do next....leave and come back at 21-2?
  12. V is trying out the new hook BC bought for him about one inning to late for Jon.
  13. Beckett quickly trying to find some out of date hamburger in an effort to induce food poisoning and call in sick tomorrow.
  14. AGons going to the mound to console him. "Look we all know you suck. Its OK. Just try to keep them out of the new windows done at the Gardner Museum cause that is a little embarrassing....OK big fella'"
  15. Well the blaze is 12 floor now. Crushed....Geez Melancon is launching historic shots now. And Nothing more to be said after Beltre.
  16. And let the fires begin
  17. Oh God...here comes Melancon...another one of our arsonists...with any luck he will tire himself out so he can't come in tomorrow.
  18. Problem that sort of overarches the rest is that he can no longer see the slider at all. That may be terminal when combined with everything else that is goin' on with him. Not a matter of effort by the way. He has just been beaten up over the years. He has not been used to best advantage in my view. He has always gone out there without complaint. Many players would have been more vocal about not being used in a way that would extend their careers and enhance their incomes. Youk never complained but I do think there is a good chance that it has all caught up to him.
  19. Youk is meat these days. He might be done after all. May not be a cure for the way he is goin' after the slider.
  20. Boy those "cheers" sounded less like YOUK this time around.
  21. Well at one point I think Jeter could go to his left OK. In my honest opinion, he could never go to his right although I am sure Jeter worshipers would argue to death about that one.
  22. Kaat is nuts...Yes Jeter would have gotten to that ball....5 years ago. He would not have gotten there today and to suggest that he would is just ignorant.
  23. Have no idea where Repko thought he was going. Amazing how oblivious to situational baseball he seems to be.
  24. Painful to see the way the Rangers outfielders move to the ball compared to our guys. How long has Repko been down on the farm? He looks ancient already.
