  1. Although I also had hoped the Sox would proactively bring Cook aboard I think the Sox are simply letting the process run its course...giving the Sox the maximum amount of time to work out who will go where. I think Cook does end up on the 25 man roster. Not sure if his first appearance will be in relief or if he will get a start as his first appearance. I actually think that the "who goes where" part and the decision on how to use Cook initially are actually the more difficult items for the Sox to handle. I can't see how they can possibly just let him go without giving him a shot. There are so many moving parts. Maybe Youk should go 15 day DL for example. Youk did not look like somebody who would be able to bend over normally or turn normally for more than a few days last night when he was "preparing" to pinch hit. Whether Cook sticks or not could be another story and will likely depend on how he does when he gets a chance to start a ML game.
  2. I wish the Sox did not have to wait for Cook to make his notification. They really don't have to wait but I guess that is what they are going to do. Really I guess I am just impatient to see if they really have something in Cook or not.
  3. The Sox used to make life miserable for every starting pitcher they faced...making him throw many pitches and getting his pitch count up all the time...every game. The Yanks still seem to do that. Really frustrating to me that it seems to have become an afterthought for the Sox. Plus it is something that you do as a team. Maybe that frustrates me more than anything else.
  4. I don't see what Lars is doing here either...has anybody seen Abreu lately. I have not. Are his legs shot finally...I always thought that would be the thing that went first for him. Anyway there is nothing that Lars can do here. I only saw that at bat from way far away trying to get the dogs to the front door and see the TV at the same time and could not even see that it was Lars. Saw enough to agree that was a terrible at bat. Maybe the Sox just do not want end up bringing up Middlebrooks unless they think he will be here to stay.....I really don't have a good reason myself for why they did not bring him up under the circumstances.
  5. I know these umps are supposed to have a standard for performance....wonder if they use the same stuff we do to measure ball/strike performance and if there is a performance level that is finally just to intolerable. There seemed a stretch there where this guy went four and five pitches in a row that he missed. By the end of this game you could no longer even say he was missing the low strikes or the high strikes. Outside was inside....inside was over the plate....low was a strike...high was a strike..the only things that were balls were.....the strikes.
  6. Boy Youk really looked tight. Maybe he should be DL at this point. It is a cold night though...maybe impossible for him to get the back to where he could swing.
  7. Thanks iortiz I got back to the TV to late and did not see it was Anderson...was a terrible at bat though
  8. Sweeney should be up in the count 2-0. Why swing at the first pitch when you could end the game with a dribbler some place why????? Was that lars I got back to the TV to late
  9. Atta boy Mike...beat this dick ump like a drum...geez it is no longer us against the A's. They should all meet at home plate after this game and beat the s*** outta' this guy. The whole crew sucks.
  10. Boy Youk looks stiff just standing there. Not sure he can hit.
  11. I agree that the team has more issues than just a bull pen. Just don't think Bobby is an answer if that is the ongoing discussion. Maybe d-mac going down would be the obvious choice if they did get him. Optimally I suspect Bobby is ready to DH someplace and we have that covered I think.
  12. Gammon's...I am so tired of him already..."there hasn't been many complaints" about the ump. I just don't think anybody on either team thinks this guy can see...what are they going to complain about...guy has a handicap
  13. We had are chances when we finally started to make some better at bats but we did not do enough with them and to much of the game had gone by at that point. Those back to back at bats by Sweeney and Aviles were killers tonight. Sweeney swung at ball 4 and popped up. He would have been on base with only one out when Mike came up. Then Mike missed that 0-1 FB that was right down main street and unless something happens here in our half...that was the game.
  14. Just for the record, the Sox have scored an average of 8.3 runs in their wins to date this year and have averaged 4.09 runs per game in their losses. Some teams can live with 4 or 5 runs per game. The Sox really can't and are not designed to. Teams beating the Sox have averaged 7.8 runs per game in their wins and that includes the 18 run onslaught by the Rangers.
  15. I know...just frustrated by the fact that they have only managed 1 run here tonight....at least so far.
  16. We can if we get 7-8 runs and that is frankly what this team is designed to do. That is how this edition of the Sox is supposed to win games...frustrating I know but none the less true.
  17. What a difference...now if they would just not miss the pitches they are getting when they get the count there way...we might have something...they might have waited to long though
  18. Was Aviles covering on that....Pedey should have been covering on that...I know Aviles range issue is going right not left but he should have gotten closer to that than he did
  19. I know Magadan is supposed to be some sort of God but instead of concentrating on which guy swings from an open stance and which guy has a hitch maybe he should teach them the difference between smart hitting and not so smart hitting.....cause hitting is how this team must win games
  20. Unbelievable...Sweeney works him to 3-1 and then swings at Ball 4
  21. Notice Sox have finally smartened up a bit
  22. Sorry Mike...should not have missed strike two...thought he would have deposited that one into the monster seats
  23. Damn it ...Mike just missed that one
  24. That was such an idiotic piece of hitting that I even posted about it. The hitter had been lookin' at Buch's pitches all night. Gets the reliever with two outs and guys on base and swings at the very first pitch he sees....should never have happened.
  25. Well Atch does his clean inning thing again. Maybe V: a) can't bring Atch in to get the Sox out of jams cant bring Atch in to start clean late innings That leaves clean early innings only....maybe thats' the secret to Atch
