Well I guess the issue is that everyday players do play with the same injury that very quickly sends a pitcher to TJ surgery. If the injury becomes very painful, then the surgery becomes the recommended course of action.
So I guess that is really what it boils down to for an everyday player. However if it does eventually become to uncomfortable for him then given the amount of time he has missed for these other injuries, not dealing with the elbow would seem pretty foolish. Bad enough the Sox are overpaying for a heathy player....now CC is just another player eating up resources doing nothing.
I do think at this point, regardless of the fact that the plasma shot has done very little according to Carl, he is committed to playing this year with the injury. Of course while you don't have to have a great arm to play Fenway's left field, CC will become yet another player that you are hoping will generate enough offense to make up for the fact that Carl will throw out nobody from LF. In fact in all likelihood he will get the same advice LaRussa gave Albert when he had the same issue....just soft toss the ball into the SS. That aught to be effective! You could see that being OK if the Sox pitchers did not give up line drives like a broken candy machine gives up jawbreakers.
