  1. Holy Cow...Davis is actually worse at bunting than our guys.
  2. dice...way to dig a hole...hit batsman and a a walk. This has all the earmarks of runs aplenty.
  3. Yea, what I remember about those Manny homers you were talking about is watching them pinball off the empty seats up there.
  4. The excitement in the Rogers Center is palpable isn't it?
  5. Wow, talk about a blah half inning. I think even at his advanced age, Ortiz would run rings around Gomez. Would have looked pretty silly if he got nailed at second.
  6. Lackey might have a hard time his first year back. He needs his secondary pitches to be successful. Seems to me the more pitches you have to train that new arm hanging off the shoulder to throw, the longer it takes to come back. Based on history Lackey is not going to be able to rear back and blow anybody away. Johnson would be a nice add but sounds more like a means to boost Morales/Doubront off the back end and moving the other guys down one notch. Probably still need another arm in the process.
  7. Well as has often been mentioned in baseball a Manager has one major function, to get the team to coalesce as a unit...to make a whole that is greater than the sum of its parts......that combined with the way the Manager handles the pitchers is just about the whole job. However I should point out that the more the FO hands off a team of highly paid, long term contract, independently minded ball players, the less chance the Manager has in blending them into a whole. The FO must as one of its functions, keep the numbers of long term contract players at a minimum or have a highly respected player willing to accept a leadership role riding herd on the other big ticket players. Just because a Manager at the AAA level is able to get his team to coalesce effectively is no guarantee that he can do it at the ML level. If anything it might hamper him at the ML level depending on the team the FO puts together for him. If for example the FO is embarking on a youth movement, bringing up numbers of the players from the AAA team, then bringing that Manager along with them might make a good deal of sense or If that Manager was at one time, a leader as a player and is respected for it, that might work. I thought it interesting that the Sox PR machine is starting to spin out the story that V has earned the respect of some of the players through all the strife and turmoil of this year. Don't know if they are sending up a trial balloon or not. Who can tell with this bunch. Nothing would surprise me anymore. They might end up bringing the football coach over from England to Manage the Sox and send V over there to manage the football team. Certainly would be keeping within the spirit of their usual nonsense. They could claim that they hired the right guys all along but just stuck them with the wrong teams at first.....congratulating themselves the whole way for having figured it out in the end.
  8. The Sox could luck out on Napoli. He has not had the kind of year his agent would have liked him to have going into FA. If he had one of those boffo contract year years, then I would say forget it. He would end up going for to much money. Sort of points out what a mess of a system MLB has though. The player has one boffo year and the dumb ass owners and GM's fall all over themselves throwing cash at the guy on the "hope" that he can come close to repeating that year.....the team ends up lucky if the guy produces at half that rate over the life of the contract, likely never having produced the contract year numbers again. At least with Napoli, chances are the Sox would not overpay.
  9. If the Sox end up keeping him for cheap, that could be an alternative while they work out other aspects of this mess. However as I said earlier I think somebody will overpay him in FA and I don't believe the Sox will compete for him under any circumstances. So, I suspect Loney will be gone and that will be that.
  10. Iggy.....Iggy....Iggy...can't be goin' 2 for 22 and boot balls as well. You be headin' back son if you are not careful.
  11. Melancon is overthrowing
  12. Now that was to funny...they had Ross playing RF for the bitch hit off Jeter's bat....just to funny
  13. Great....Mark the Machine Melancon...that should finish off what is left of us
  14. I would agree with you were it not for only having Salty left as a RF bomber and he appears to have a hole in his bat the size of a 61 Cadillac.
  15. I swear to God this lack of plate discipline is beginning to look like an organizational thing now...they don't even come up from Pawtucket with any plate discipline any more. Gimme' a break! Does anybody teach anything in this organization any more?....besides how to sell bricks and commemorative bats?
  16. What the f*** is Gomez problem....can't he look at more than one pitch per at bat?
  17. The more I see if the Jeter-esk bitch hit....doesn't it look like he can get to the inside pitch...which you would not expect...but can no longer really extend his arms...which you would think he could still do. So many of his little dink and dunk hits are off inside pitches.
  18. That was the bitch hit of all bitch hits...classic Jeter and to add insult to injury...the hit that ties him with Willy Mays for career hits.....disgusting
  19. Now I like Pods...but that pitch was candy...best he could do was dribble it foul??
  20. Sports phycologists recommendations for ML pitchers...go visit the Red Sox...Hughes....Hughes for crying out loud!!!!
  21. What an emphatic third strike call....is he thrilled because he finally saw one?
  22. Cano walks on a 2-2 count...if they nicknamed ump crews this one would be "the seeing eye dog crew".
  23. Is this like the worst ump crew touring the majors right now or what....does any one of them have a clue?
  24. Geez Salty...holy s***...how many K's is he going to have before this season is over?
  25. Another one of V's hunches. I guess once you have invented the wrap, you become addicted to playing hunches.
