  1. Well that was just too much of a mistake pitch. Flat nothing FB right down main st.
  2. I am not sure WMB sees the pitch on the outer third like you would want him to. One thing I notice is not only does he swing at pitches that start on the outer third and finish off the black, he is trying to pull them still as if he thinks they are in some other location. You never see him try to take the ball the other way even when the location begs for it, like a pitch that finishes on the outer third instead of starts on the outer third. As suggested in the post above, you almost never see him simply try to get wood on a ball that is in a bad location with two strikes just fouling it off in an effort to get a look at something better.
  3. The poor Astros. Have you ever seen a team so totally lacking in all aspects of the game. Growing up in Connecticut I don't even remember the Mets being this totally talentless. The Stro's can't.....field, can't hit and can't pitch. That is a scary combination. Is there any doubt that Aceves could be a starting pitcher for the Stro's?
  4. Dogging it getting over to cover 1st while his 1st baseman was fully stretched out and in the middle of making a great play may well have been the last straw for Farrell as it related to Aceves. One of the downsides of a public understanding that one of the FO hopes was that Farrell could bring Ace to heel is that when that does appear to be happening, Farrell is likely to cut bait pretty quickly. He needs this s*** like he needs a hole in the head. Maybe Ace gets his wish just not the with the Sox. Look at the jokers that the Astros have starting for them. Ace could start for that team...no problem.
  5. Yes, Jenny has to resort to her folded arm, "you have been a bad boy and you must be punished" poses in order to gain any headway on Heidi. Although I must admit that there is a certain 42nd St. kind of appeal that Dell generates from her approach that can be attractive at times. Lets just say that I would not necessarily toss Mistress Jenny to the pavement should she make herself available. Of coarse I am sure Dell has no idea that she is eliciting that sort of response from her ad spots.....sure she hasn't!!!!!
  6. Yea, I know....a couple cut right through the opposing batter's box. He still seems to get that far off the plate with the ones that get away from him. His motion looks so much like Miller's when the ball is going all over as in somewhat disjointed. Which is why I commented that I really did not know whether either would survive the returns of Frankie and Bres. However, Bard lifted himself a notch anyway and maybe has something to build on. Would I hand him the ball in a tight game??? Not at this point. It would likely be much better for Bard to gain some success at AAA before being put into any high pressure situations up here. In truth the Sox have been so far ahead in many of the games they have won that even Bailey has not been under that much pressure. Ninth inning Sox pitchers have often had the good fortune to be handed three run leads....short enough to get a save but long enough to allow for a few mistakes.
  7. No reason to think Morales will have slipped any nor Bres. I am not sure either Miller or Bard will survive their return. Bard just looks like Miller from the other side of the plate. Uncanny how they appear to be bookends at this point. Is MIller on the way to a Bard meltdown? Is Bard ever far away from a Bard meltdown?
  8. Jerry and Don talking about keeping Vic out of the lineup for the weekend. That could be a pretty good idea. Would rather his back fully heal. We should not need him against Houston.
  9. I don't think folks had 40 HR kinds of expectations for JD, not in this ballpark. Maybe not in any ballpark. It is tough to engender much loyalty from fans that are waiting for the next hang nail induced trip to the 15 day DL. I think JD performed pretty much as advertised but was too easily displaced from the lineup. The Boston crowd was always going to be tough on JD under those circumstances.
  10. The good, Lester and Buch for their outstanding performances to date The bad, WMB and Drew for continuing to be vulnerable to certain pitches in their plate appearances (hopefully to be resolved in time) The ugly, Hands down.... Aceves for his continued selfishness manifested in the hot headed lack of focus that he exhibits on the mound whenever he feels like pouting and the poor performance that ensues
  11. Not to beat a dead horse but Brooks Pitchfx now has the data up for this game at its web site. The pitch from Resop to WMB that we were discussing and that I described as a bad 0-0 pitch for WMB to swing at is recorded in pitchfx as "off the plate" inside. As in was not even a strike in the first place. The 0-0 pitch that I did not criticize WMB for from Anderson was not middle middle but it was close enough to middle middle which is why I did not criticize him for it. Although WMB did not get a good result swinging at the Anderson pitch either, at least that was the kind of pitch you could tolerate 0-0. The Resop pitch actually looked off the plate inside to me but I resisted the temptation to say so at the time as it did not take much effort to wait for the pitchfx data to be available. I waited for pitchfx data to be up as I trust it. Pitchfx is easy to get to. So I trust people can go to the site and look for themselves. In fact I suspect most if not all of us have done so at one time or another.
  12. And the series....winnin' the first one proves important again.
  13. Looked like Balfour said a bad word there.
  14. Jeez looking at strike 3
  15. Hum...isn't that the second time in a row Ueh has come in to a bomb? Young again!
  16. No Lackey on Sunday? Has that decision already been made?
  17. Maybe that becomes something Miller can build on.
  18. Maybe he has a reverse Samson. This would be first outing since the cut I think.
  19. Does it look like bats break more dramatically than they used to break? The number of times that the hitter is left with a stump with a sharp spinning log headed for the infield seems much higher than it used to be. Then again bat weights across baseball are not what they used to be either.
  20. We will have to agree to disagree and that is a long way from nonsense. From a hitter's results standpoint 0-0 is the worst pitch in baseball. You need middle middle or let it go by. I pose a simple enough question...did he get a hit? Did he even hit the ball solidly?
  21. Middle in is not what you should want 0-0...middle middle is worth swinging at 0-0. That is what he got the 0-0 pitch before that and that is why I did not crucify him for that one. Look where he hit it. He did not get anything like the meat of the bat on that ball. Not even close.
  22. Jon may pay for that one. That is showing up the ump. Jon had plenty of time NOT to start walkin' toward the dugout. Gotta' keep your cool. There is no winning this battle for the pitcher.
  23. I still think WMB may be making a conscience effort to be more aggressive so early in counts because he has grown so feeble late in counts. He may have even been instructed to try to look for more opportunities to swing early in counts. That does not excuse that last mess. That was a terrible pitch to swing at with an 0-0 count. I think he is trying to grope for a way through this while working on a real solution....which is going to have to start with not being so feeble and so vulnerable particularly to the slider with two strikes.
  24. Now that was NOT a good 0-0 pitch for WMB. Not even close to worth swinging at even trying to avoid two strikes like the plague.
  25. A hit here makes things very tough on the A's. Probably stuck with Anderson too long.
