  1. Actually he has already put the weight back on. If you look at photos from last year to this, he is much bigger again this year. However we don't want him trying to scream around the bases thinking he is somehow streamlined with that thinner frame. We don't want that at all!
  2. Funny how technology goes through phases. The Astrodome while once being coined as one of the "worlds" wonders always had one of the worst playing surfaces in sports, even when it was new. Then when it got some age on it, it was truly nasty....dangerous even.
  3. I don't know what Aceves can do at this point. First he will have to get over his snit over not starting any longer. He may never get over that. If he is able to put that behind him, and able to keep from letting every little thing that happens on the mound turn into a distraction that he simply cannot get past, then he surely is capable of middle relief. However you never know at this point what will set him off. A fan sneezing during his delivery might set him off for all we know..... Head case supreme.
  4. Even given his 2012 performance, achieved having trimmed down to what looked like his best condition in years, what he is doing this year is IMO, unheard off. As I posted elsewhere there is no category for something like this. Nobody keeps records around taking a few paltry AB's (18 of them) at AAA and coming up to face ML pitching at that point. But what Ortiz is doing is just plain ridiculous as he looks laughably comfortable at the plate regardless of what he says about his comfort level.
  5. Boy I guess I knew Houston from its record but I had not bothered to watch them play much. Man how do you end up with so little team at an ML level. I am not sure I have ever seen a nine as thin at the talent level as they are including those early Mets teams as I mentioned earlier. Sunday's is a get outta' town game. Stro's are so low I don't want to hazard a guess as to how bad that team might look in a Sunday get outta' town game. I guess we are about to find out though.
  6. The condition of the pen is yet another reason why the contributions from Lester and Buch have been so critical to the start the Sox have had.
  7. Well to take four out of four ya' gotta' take the first three....here we are.
  8. Peacock folds his feathers
  9. If they keep pitching WMB in the same location the last two have been he is headed to the HOF with stops at several AS games in between.
  10. Oh how I wish that got out. I love to see pitchers blunder into the inner half or inner third only to see it rocket the other way off of WMB's bat.
  11. Felix just put another in the same place and its a ball this time
  12. Boy Altuve has a gripe there. Ump was looking right at that pitch and still missed it.
  13. I don't know if Felix has Milleritis or needs a Bardectomy.
  14. Felix nursed that 2-0 pitch into the zone.
  15. By the way, if WMB did become one of the great mistake pitch hitters, that would be huge. The reason I would be willing to give up opposite field hits for that is probably obvious. - opposite field for half WMB's games would be Fenway RF. A big playground out there where he would likely end up with a bunch of singles and a few doubles - WMB is a strong enough guy that when he jumps on mistakes, they are going over the monster in LF or over and out of just about any other LF in MLB. So I will take extra base hits and HR's to LF over opposite field hits and let guys like Vic and Ells and Pedey take care of the singles.
  16. Damn I wish we did not have to use Ueh and Taz tonight. Well we still have two with this team. So I think it just means we need to get along without them at least for one. Monday is a day off.
  17. I will have to check pitchfx tomorrow to see where the pitches were in WMB's HR at bat and this one. But what I would really like to see from WMB would be to foul off that pitch he just took for strike 3 and others like it with two strikes and then take the mistake pitch on the inner half and especially inner half and up and clean it out. Anything inner half and up to WMB is a mistake pitch. While it would ignore taking balls on the outer third or outer half to right field, if WMB could foul those off, he could go from being an up and coming young player with lots of potential and lots of holes in his game to being one of the greatest mistake pitch hitters of all time.
  18. Over a short span, we might be seeing one of the great hitting performances of all time from Papi. Although I guess in reality there isn't a category for taking eighteen AB's in AAA and coming up to the ML to do what he is doing....I think it is pretty unheard of.
  19. Look what I found mom!
  20. At least this game might end before the end of the week now. We are on the way to two hours to get through four innings.
  21. Bedard farting around on the inner half got what he deserved especially with WMB. Now I am positive that Aceves could start for Houston. He could take Bedard's place in their rotation.
  22. Oh my God ...Bedard...somebody put the poor guy out of his misery...for our sakes.
  23. I think the two guys most anxious to see Bedard out of the game are Jerry and Don. They are running out of filler for the time between his pitches.
  24. A one-two-three inning for Bedard must be an annual event. Not sure tonight will be the night for his one per year.
  25. Amazing how hitters just do not see Dempster's ball breaking down in the zone....at all. They just do not see it as a pitch likely to be at their shoe tops and even when not at their shoe tops they simply cannot get a read on it. Bats are a mile away from where the ball crosses the plate.
