  1. Yu talking to himself leaving the mound "I threw a hanging curve ball to this gray beard guy first time up???" I don't think Yu is going to throw Ross any more curves today....hanging or otherwise.
  2. I would bet that Farrell is trying to give Pedey a day off and he is probably balking. You would literally have to drag him kicking and screaming out of the lineup. The thing is, he is so terrific in the field that even when he is not hitting he is an asset. We have to take advantage of this. Darvish made two really ugly mistakes and Ortiz and Ross killed both of them.
  3. Its not really a complaint but you would like SS to give you at SS what Pedey gives us at 2nd base cause there are just so many more opportunities to give you + defense at SS. Drew has sucked up everything that has come his way so far this year but has not been able to turn that into outs we really should not expect and don't deserve the way Pedey does. That is what separates the true defensive artists at SS from the rest of the pack. That is what sort of makes the discussion about Iggy vs Drew. No question though...Drew is going to have every chance to straighten out his offense.
  4. Ortiz unreal....was hoping that excuse me hit from Pedey would net us something cause that is likely what it will take today. Got Yu having to pitch from the stretch in the first inning just in time for Ortiz....by-by.....two run homer.
  5. Not sure if Vic will rest every day after night game but he is going to rest this one. I don't think they want to press their luck with the back. Same with WMB. Don't think he will rest every day after night either. But he is scuffling a bit and his defense appears to be suffering a bit for it. Good day to give him a sit instead of having him buck heads with Darvish. I still think WMB's defense is very much improved over last year...three errors in two games or not. His technique in the field is worlds better and that takes work.
  6. If they all were hitting at once that would last for about 3 days. Just does not happen. Happily, our super-subs Nava and Carp have really chipped in a lotta' offense. That has really helped. We sorta' need Ortiz to stay in the lineup so that we have that tag team in the middle of the lineup that all offensively oriented teams depend on now. WMB just needs to grow as a hitter and establish a profile built around his most important asset, the ability to take mistake pitches up and in out of the ballpark. Not only does he rarely miss them but he very often turns them into HR's or extra base hits. May not happen during this season but I would bet he will spend the entire next off-season working on it. Pedey needs to heal. Not real sure where Drew is going. Maybe he just needs more AB's to get into a grove. Salty is Salty...meaning a day off for him is a break for the fans. Ells and Vic are terrific as table setters at the top of the lineup. Hope this back issue is not something that lingers for Vic. Most amazing part of this whole start is that we really have not gapped anybody but the Jays and there is something going on up there that is overshadowing stats and numbers and all of that. I think they are going nowhere. Have lost two more since we left and now stand at a whopping 10-21.
  7. Is Vic being rested...day game following night or did his back flair up again? Anybody know?
  8. I used to joke in these pages about how Bailey was bound to trip over a bat in the dugout precipitating his next injury. But I am just amazed at the guy's inability to stay on the field. What has he pitched here? What...about 10 maybe 15 innings or something like that. At some point you just stop trying to understand why and just resign yourself to it. Don't think we will ever get more than a few weeks at a time out of him before the next whatever happens to him.
  9. The very very first thing I said about the pen and Farrell weeks ago was that Farrell was stuck on this one inning per reliever thing. That night he tried Mortenson for two and got away with it. But Mortenson really cannot go into any high leverage situations late and I don't think Farrell would try Mortenson for two now....not the way he is going. Farrell has got to see that there is no way his relievers survive this way though. So he has got to try two with somebody. I really don't think he has a choice. Anything else is wishful thinking.
  10. Can't ask for better out of the two guys at the top of the rotation. This year it is more that we just don't have anybody that can go two. However I think Farrrell is just going to have to bite the bullet at some point and try it as these guys are not going to make it going one inning per night. Who knows what Frankie will be when he comes back but you would think he could go two. Probably won't though cause Farrell will want to move him into Miller's spot.
  11. At some point maybe we will take off the rose colored glasses on the number of innings we are forcing out of Taz and Ueh.
  12. My nightmare road trip for the Sox would be Tampa, Texas, Oakland and Seattle. Awful places for the Sox to play.
  13. What the hell was that thing flying toward home from Taz as his pitch was coming in.
  14. Would have to drag him out of the lineup. Truth of it is, Pedey does so much with his glove that even when he is not hitting he is run. They are just runs the other team is not scoring
  15. Well considering it took what 28 games for a ball to finally go awry from WMB to Naps...that is much later in the season than I was expecting. Actually I guess he bounced one past Naps before this...still better than I expected to see
  16. Jeez they should have put an SUV in the picture with the Strass for size comparison. That picture does not do 8 lbs justice.
  17. Just saw the Stras. $59 each. This in the town that regularly juggles multi $B budgets. No wonder.
  18. If you do a search on Beltre Buster I think you will have better luck finding that burger
  19. Naps is such a good low ball hitter..just as good from the Right side as some low ball LH hitters. You would think he would lay off the high heat.
  20. At least the chile smothers the grease on the dog....assuming that is what that is. The burger is oozing right out of the box.
  21. The thing comes in a box that you would usually see for a birthday cake!
  22. Prefer reminding people to hearing that he is washed up cause he cannot hit homers anymore. That one is probably right around the corner.
  23. Actually VA they just showed the $26 hot dog. Thghe $26 burger looks much more intimidating. Have no idea how that guy ate that thing last night.
  24. Boy Pedey is as screwed up as I have ever seen him. That's one side effect of protecting an injury
