  1. Pedey has developed as a hitter along what I think is exactly the right path for him. He does generate tremendous bat speed but he is just not big enough to be a true power hitter. I think it unrealistic to have expected him to hit HR's at the rate he did when he was younger. He is not even through getting better but he has to this point become a hitter with terrific bat control. At some point here he is going to out-Jeter Jeter IMO. He will be able to spray the ball wherever he wants to whenever he wants to but will generate more extra base hits than Jeter has since Jeter became such a master of bat control.
  2. Suprisingly Gomes has been even more patient than Nava and patience is one of Nava's strong points. I expected Nave to be just a tad more patient than Gomes. But it is the other way round.
  3. Almost unbelievable how bad it has gotten for Ells. Pitchers have almost got to make an effort NOT to get him out. The pitch he hit in the 1st was as grooved a pitch as it could be. At this rate, Demps is bound to walk somebody and then leave a pitch up in the zone where even this place won't hold it. While I am stretching to compliment him, he has been pretty tough. Many pitchers would have just been so demoralized by the walks that they would have just tossed a lollypop up there by now. Well like that...at least it was not a dinger.
  4. It was a lotta' this last time he was up. He would either hit a GB, K or line drive right at somebody. Uncanny really how often it goes this way for him.
  5. Demps has not often left that really ugly pitch up in the zone where he can get hurt. The BB's have been piling up but he is almost never wild in the strike zone and that has saved him tonight and other nights. However if he starts to leave more pitches up in the zone on top of all these BB's then he will really start to get rocked. He has been a very hard nosed pitcher.
  6. It is not just one pitch they are getting Naps on now either....Up and in...down and in....up and away....at this rate teams are going to start to walk Ortiz even with men on base that get pushed up one.
  7. Ortiz murdered that. If that pitch was a little higher I am sure he would have hit that out.
  8. Thankful for that WMB play. This could have been much worse.
  9. Really good play by WMB.
  10. Ross has been out for a few days now...since taking those two balls right in the face mask behind the plate. They were almost one right after the other and the second really caught him flush.....concussion issue.
  11. Sometimes SPer's just struggle with the 1st inning period. Something we grew to be very familiar with here. Diamond did not get a chance to throw enough from the windup to tell which is was this time around.
  12. Lots of SPers have trouble going to the stretch so early in a game but Diamond has been ridiculous here. The first few to Ells were not much better and he was full windup to Ells.
  13. Ortiz just does not miss pitches that badly thrown.
  14. Isn't that slightly below his career average as well? Maybe not....I'll just go look.
  15. Drew did look uncomfortable. Probably felt worse today. Did not look like it was long term bad though. So maybe a game or two and he comes back.
  16. Hamilton is a big talent but I think the only way to have really had something going would have been to have hoped that Texas drawing the line on contract years would have discouraged other teams with regard to years. That did not happen or at least in one case that did not happen and that was the end of that.
  17. They cannot take Ells out of the lineup at this point. However they definitely need to drop him in the order. Although Vic would be one of my prime candidates to bat lead off, Nava should be in the top spot for now.
  18. I did not realize it was used so seldom Station. I have to admit I have not seen it used more than once. But I thought I just had not had enough opportunities. Wonder why scorers are so reluctant. Tonight would have seemed as good a place to use it as I am probably ever going to see.
  19. Your right...we should have plastered them...those DP's were deadly.
  20. Agreed...sort of wish Miller got it just for encouragement. Have to be impressed with what he has done. Ueh gets to enjoy getting the save.
  21. Ironically, the guy that only threw I think two pitches, Alex Wilson, will get the win.
  22. I wish we would generate more offense. But in truth I love seeing the Sox squeak out wins...so un-Sox-like!
  23. Hanarahan apparently had the works....TJ plus and won't be throwing again until after the AS game, next year!
  24. I have no idea why the LFer would have wanted any part of that. Hicks is really good, has a great arm and had the angle to try to make a throw.
  25. Bad play there...Hicks would have had a shot at Pedey without that mess out there. I think Pedey would have beat it but it would have been really close.
